Grateful to this company for giving me the opportunity to work here. I had a lot happening in life at this time personally but my supervisor and co workers made me feel valued for the work I did. There were lots of training and productivity.

Convenient location
Claims examiners are very experienced and skillful.
Exami ers are professional.


What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Poor magement.
Weak inhouse legal department
No separation between claims and legal

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Informal but heavy workload makrs for great stress. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Directions from home office are verbal and examiners' written confirmation of same is met with distain.

GNY is the kind of company where one goes to get their early working experience, but it is not the place where you would want to spend the rest of your career. They have little respect for their employees, and will let anyone go based on the flimsiest of charges. You just don't feel secure there, because you know all it takes to get fired is one bad word from your supervisor. to them the mangers are always right, and the employees are always wrong. Their yearly employee reviews are very lazy. Even the best employees get low reviews every year.

It is a difficult place to work because there aren't any set guidelines or structure. You can ask different supervisors/management the same question and get completely different answer. There is no training program so you will spend the first few months trying to figure out how to do your job making it very difficult to transition.

I enjoyed 14 years at GNU and would of loved to finish my career there. But management had a different plan for me
  They decided to eliminate the Marketing Dept. And terminated my position.  Very disappointingly. Especially after a year of two they decided to bring back the Marketing Dept.  And never called me back.  Left a very bad taste in my mouth.

I wake up, log in, and immersed

Eliminated field sales positions. No supplemental comp for superior sales performance. Knee jerk decisions were a constant occurrence. New CUO determined to make GNY into a little Hartford.

The company enable me to further my experience with Commercial Lines Insurance, new skills and learning new rating systems too. I learned how to work directly with different underwriters and agents and handling each of the different guidelines of each insurance companies,

Management treats their employees with respect and your opinion is valued.  Good benefits including pension, tuition reimbursement.  Most positions structured for work from home, good life/work balance.  Knowledgeable and experienced upper management.
