When I first started everything seen great. The pay and the benefit was good. My first day was good. The supervisor doesn't even interact with you. Such poor management. They doesn't even want to show u how everything goes, like how to use their system software they expect you to read from a 5 thick booklet that doesn't even explain to how used or directions to even start with. I was suppose to shadow a co- worker, She was giving  attitude, everybody was moving so fast and doesn't even explain what they're doing. Everyone is giving you dirty looks.The second day was terrible. I was getting blamed for things that I didn't do How was I suppose to work on patients when they doesn't want me to learn or show me anything. I hated there.I'm not going to just sit down or still there like statue.I came to work, I want to work. Worst place ever.  Also I notice that when they was doing blood draw, they would tell a patient that they have rolling or thin veins. They would used the needle and take it back out and used the same needle to try to used it again. Hello that's HIPAA voilations!!!  At the end of the week I just walked out during my lunch break. I couldn't take it anymore. Believe me the pay was good, but I can't work with people with no teamwork, management, no direction no nothing.

My experience working at Greater Philadelphia Health Action, Inc. was a good.  I actually took the job because it allowed me to gain real work experience in other areas in the Human Resources field.  Unfortunately, the culture at Greater Philadelphia Health Action was not that good because of the Gossip that spread like wild-fire. Furthermore, as an individual working in Human Resources it just seemed like a complaining tank from both the supervisors and their subordinates.  The benefits where great when I first started but then the copay and deductions started to increase as the cost increased.  What I really didn't like is that they cut our sick leave to only 7 days and they could not be rolled over and the pension contribution decreased and the match was not a true match. In addition, management started to become micro-managers.  Also, because this organization is not for profit, salary increases could be as low as 15 cents per hour. My typical workday was busy with responding to inquiries, producing reports and preparing for various audits.

A typical day a work consists of a heavy flow of patients and the stress level that the managers and patients. I somehow became able to manage it throughout the long days. I have learned how to not take personal criticism from patients seriosly. I also learned the teamwork and communication can be hard especially when you have a team player who is willing to do anyhing to make you fail. Management can have its ups and downs, one day you like them the next you cant stand how they treat you and your fellow coworkers. My coworkers and I have tried serveral times to put things in order in the most professional way as possibable. But when all else fails, you learn to deal with their ways. Working with a great team time of coworkers has made days much at ease. We learned as a group, who we are, what we feel most confortable, and how to work things out when things to seen to be a the bottom, The hardest part of the job is being talked too like a child and the providers (doctors) not trusting you. Its hard because you cant really say how you feel and it gets even harder when you want to prove them wrong. But not everything is bad. The most part i like is working with a team that you can trust and laugh at the funy things that happened during the day.

As a therapist I was excited by the expansive services offered by the agency and potential good work offered to the community members. However, my experience was anything but exciting. I enjoyed working with the community members providing therapeutic services - often without adequate supervision and a “we will ask management” mentality with no clear resolve when I questioned security measures and pertinent clinical concerns. Policies seemed to change at a whim and were personalized to the discretion of whoever you asked for clarity and support. There is a culture of mismanagement, having favorites, condescension, inappropriate boundaries within staff relations to include use of intimidation tactics, and an imbalance of work/life due to stringent punitive productivity quotas. This is not an organization that I would EVER suggest for anyone to pursue for professional or academic experience. My time at GPHA Frankford was not pleasant. 5 out of 9 clinicians resigned within 30 days - this ought to tell you something! 

Was told I only had to see X amount of patients but quickly realized I had to do my share plus everyone else’s. Everyone was not held to the same standard.  I always had to go above and beyond but my colleagues always had light schedules and were not pressed to see extra patients, many did not have to do much clinical work at all. The gossip is out of control. Employees in other sites were somehow always speaking my name, sites I’ve never even been to. Everyone feels like they are entitled to know things that are none of their business. Being quiet and staying to oneself is apparently is a problem for many. A lot of inflated egos, people wanted to be more important than they actually were. Locations are dangerous and hostile patients do not receive consequences. Pay rate and time off were decent. Did meet some really nice, genuine people that I appreciated dearly. 

I loved the job because I was working to help people, but the management was very unorganized and they never stuck with a solid structure. Every week my supervisor wanted to try something new even if what we were doing was working. She was very stuck up and didn't want to hear anyone else's ideas or she would listen to them and look at you like you are stupid and basically tell you "No that is not a good idea; I want it done that way". There is no room for advancement.
All though the management was very unorganized, my co-workers and the patients made the job a pretty awesome place to work. The doctors I worked with were very pleasant to work with except for one of them. I became a lot faster at typing and I also learned to type in data.

What is the best part of working at the company?
Working with different various people, and being able to help direct them to the medical attention they need, whenever I can. Also learning how to verify insurance information as needed.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Not being able to complete an extra task that was given for the day.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
I like that everyone respected each other and their culture. Mostly everyone are willing to help each other.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Start the workday at 8:30am checking in patients and verifying their information for the provider. Checking out patients, reminder calls, telehealth calls and more ending at 5pm.

The managers are mean! Do not take lightly the smiles at the beginning. They talk everyone’s business with their “friends” at the company. Nothing stays confidential. Your co workers will sit while you work, your complaints would go over deaf ears because they’re “friends” with the managers/DCA’s. The DCA’s DO NOT kno how to speak to people. Everyone has an attitude for absolutely no reason. The lazy people who sat and did absolutely nothing are now being moved up to supervisors, to now complain about persons being on their phones when that’s all they ever did 🤷🏽‍♀️. You’re over worked, every week there is a new rule. If the company has over 5000 employees, maybe only 25 is nice and has good, professional work ethics. Definitely the WORST company I’ve ever worked with!!!!!

came in to the office I  have your daily task to complete which consist of pulling charts,  answering phones, completing medical releases, filing back charts, Then I get a call from my boss at 3pm asking me to take down all the medical charts from the shelves and put them in boxes by the end of the day which is 5pm. I explained to my boss that there are no boxes in the office so we will need to order some. I also explained to her how impossible this task is as we have over 1000 charts in the office and I am the only person in the department. she simply told me this is what she wanted done. I worked to 6 pm that evening I was only able to take down 100 charts that day.

I gained some helpful experience while working at GPHA but management was poor during my time there. I was put on furlough without notice from my own supervisor and also the amount of time from when I interviewed with them to when I got offered the job was like a 3 month process. Poor communication and I was asked to do a lot of tasks that were not part of my job description. You get decent time off and they were willing to negotiate salary for me.
