The work itself is pretty procedural, easy to pick up and learn, unless you need proper training in which you'll probably not get from management, they are quick to leave you to figure it out or ask another coworker for help. The company as a whole are terrible with communication, only reason ppl find out anything is at the last minute when things get changed, or if someone spills the info if they know. 

I've met wonderful people in the company, but unfortunately, I've met some horrible individuals. So many employees that had been there for years have all left, company slowing being filled with new hires with no clue or proper training, soon to find out they have to look for another job to avoid the mess that has been made of this company.

Finding the right manager for the branch is something I know is hard and takes time to consider but getting someone who isn't anywhere to be found when needed, is found singing out loud in front of members and believes its ok to do so because they don't care what people think is not something you look for in a professional setting that is a financial institution.

Trying to grow in the company is difficult, even if you meet every qualification they rather hire from outside then promote, even though you have the experience and best knowledge of the company's systems, policies, and procedures.

New hires are put in better positions and then expect someone in a lower position to properly train them; cause management don't train they give you videos to look at and assume you know everything now or go bother someone else but them. They love to appreciate your hard work with verbal confirmation and giving you more work and nothing else, so don't expect a raise. 

Upper mngt also loves to have outside of work get-togethers to talk badly of employees, which is why i never trusted any of them. Sad to think its ok for a Director of Operations to say certain things about an employee who's doing a job of a branch supervisor but only being at a branch associate, trying their best for the branch and keep it afloat.

The constant "warnings" of getting put on a success/correction plan for using you available PTO, God forbid you got sick and clearly can't stay long or even come in. You'll get the constant reminders that leaving early, taking a day off, or needing a mental break (which was suggested by mngt btw) is bad and should keep in mind the coworkers that have to pick up your slack for taking a day off, especially cause mngt won't help them so keep that in mind. 

I LOVE working for Greater TEXAS FCU! I am still employed here after 11 years. The biggest reason why I enjoy it is because of the consideration management gives to my personal life schedule. With a disabled child I have LOTS of specialist appointments and my managers, past & present, have always worked with my work/life scheduling. The amount of leave awarded is great! The leave accrual methods work wonderfully. I have had two babies while employed. I have been able to accrue enough leave for a minimum of 6 weeks of maternity leave (with more extra to spare, just-in-case) Because of my first baby had a long NICU stay, the Short Term Disability benefitted me tremendously. This allowed for me to continue FMLA for 11 weeks. Which brings me to my next point, the benefits are outstanding. I had not heard of 401k benefits being offered to part-time employees before and GTFCU does that. 

The job culture is also another thing to brag about. It is known that we goof with each other but, never allow it to interfere with the job at hand... just take a look at the latest job positing and you will see what I mean ;-) "ninja-like customer service skills" 

Overall, it'd be an excellent choice if you are also looking to advance. There are supportive managers that help you reach personal goals, even if it means transferring for promotions. The encouraging supervisors assist in advancement, should you want to.

Communication from the leadership is severely lacking, poor decisions effect all employees, except upper management.  No loyalty to their employees. Corporate speak experts everywhere. Hybrid work is nice. The new Headquarters is a nice place to work if you do not have interact with senior management.  Work here for a short time then move on to a better place. Pay is below average.  Their website frequently crashes and is the opposite of user friendly, getting to talk to a specific person is basically impossible as a customer. The process to do the most mundane financial transaction or information request will take days to process, with many follow up calls or emails needed. If you like to use words like:  robust, pivot, bandwidth, pain point (get used to hearing this a lot) granular, and organic, this may be your dream job. This is a bottom tier financial institution.


A typical day is working at my computer on multiple tasks that I was given which have various deadlines as well as on going "daily" work. My supervisor is there when I need her but not constantly over me, which makes it a nice work environment. I am comfortable talking to/asking questions/sharing ideas with everyone in my workplace and they all seem to like being at work and care about the organization. As I am in a small department, I do many different things which can make time management difficult and focusing on one task alone is not really an option. The department being small is not a con, however, because I get to do things that affect the organization as a whole and they make me feel like what I do is important. For these reasons, Greater Texas is a great place to work. They value their employees and understand that their success is integral to the success of the organization.

A typical day at work was the usual credit union teller fare. I didn't learn much of anything that I didn't already know there except that their system is super outdated and you'll be doing a lot of stuff the hard way. 

Management was awful considering they didn't even have the staff (including managers) to stick around and do a good job.

The culture is non-existent. You're more likely to get along with your immediate coworkers before even hearing anything from the company as a whole. That being said, managers seem to be shady.

Hardest part of the job is overworking employees and not hiring staff to cover the position essential to running the business. Not to mention, they pay well under the going rate.

Most enjoyable part was talking with my immediate coworkers and leaving at the end of the day.

Greater Texas Credit Union is overall a great place to work, numerous benefits and awesome environment. The only lack may be in the uniformity of operations throughout. It is a large credit union and growing but some of the operations are still being upgraded from previous operation level. The people in charge are doing a great job trying to make the transition smooth and cumulatively their efforts are helpful but some aspects still fall by the wayside. If you're looking for a place to grow they're really good about hiring from within and many of the managers were once in your shoes, just be prepared for some growing pains as far as the company is concerned if you join within the next year or two (2019/2020).

This company strives to create a great work environment for all of it's employees. It is perfect for people who want a good work/life balance. They offer great benefits and hours. I have spent my working life in the hospitality industry so a work place like this is heaven to me. There are busy periods but I would say my role is relatively low stress compared to what I was used to. There are a lot of different branches and departments all trying to work together so procedures and communication are not always consistent or effective but they do try their best. The credit union is growing and in future, I'd hope to see a more consistent, streamlined training process to ensure everyone is on the same page.

I deeply enjoy my experience working at Greater Texas. The environment is collaborative even across departments, and it is clear that employees work toward a common goal, and genuinely care about creating a top-tier banking experience for members. Leadership works hard to create a top-tier employee experience as well. I feel I am able to participate in a variety of projects and while there is always plenty to do, it is not stressful. Greater Texas has created a culture of affirmation, inclusiveness, and community. I have not met every staff member in person, but there is always opportunity to interact with them and get to know them. This is definitely an environment you can establish a long-term career in!

I felt as if being a bank teller would be more me. But not saying it is a job that is too hard to learn. I will say management or a certain manager talks very demeaning and very oblivious to the world or work environment around her. There are very reliable people you should be able to count on but there are those that literally take a higher position for money and have no idea what it is they are supposed to be doing. It is a great opportunity but the environment was to hostile for my liking and i know you have to withstand a lot at certain jobs but grinning and bearing just doesn't sometimes cut it.

a big down fall of working there is management they are never around to help out their employees working in the contact center i had to constantly look to other departments to get help or other branch mangers for assistance they launched a new online/mobile application for members before it was ready to launch so that they get a bonus
