I have been an employee of Greystone for over 7 years. My experience with this agency has been nothing but supportive, not only for the employees but the individuals we support. At Greystone we not only encourage staff development but also support the individuals to have a voice to live self-directed lives. Over the years I have been able to make advancement within the agency from when i first started and am provided with ongoing training to advance my knowledge and education this ever growing and changing field. I have received nothing but support from my colleagues and supervisors i have had over the years. Team process and team collaboration is encouraged especially to strategize how to encourage growth and independence to the people we support and is why i continue to stay with this agency.  Although at times working in this field can be frustrating and trying, but when you get to work with the families and the individuals we support in Greystone making even the smallest of impacts with them makes everyday rewarding. Working with the families and individuals and making a difference is why i continue to be in this position. Not only do i get to work with amazing individuals and helping to navigate their needs, i am also fortunate to work with amazing and compassionate staff that work one on one with the individuals and their families.

A typical day at work with my client consists of activities that he enjoys participating in. Due the nature of his disability he is severely limited in what he can do physically. My client enjoys creating short stories and we are currently writing his Wrestling Memoirs. He is an avid wrestling fan and has taught me a great deal about this type of sports entertainment. We have attended many wrestling events in the community. During our sessions we go to a local library where I assist him in typing his thoughts on paper, "microsoft word" document. He enjoys researching a variety of subjects which I assist him with through the internet. We frequently dine out at local restaurants as well as shopping for various items he needs. I learned how to assist my client with mobility and his personal care needs as well as redirecting his intrusive thoughts that can damper his day. That is the hardest part of my job because I don't like seeing his joy taken away by other people's actions. I work one on one with my client so I don't have co-workers. My supervisor is always available if and when I need her assistance. The most enjoyable part of my job is my conversations with my client as well as his family members. He has a huge loving family.

I am not a disgruntled employee,  I am stating my opinion and what I believe is true. 
  Do not work here unless you are a workaholic.  Upper management is horrible with little to no guidance.  HR is not supportive of employees and rarely responds.  Expect to be on call 24/7, at least 4 days a week. Expect to get in trouble for wanting an hour or two to yourself during those 4 days. Understand that you are salaried,  so you will never see a 40 hour work week. The hardest part? Upper management and seeking a balance outside of work. Best part? The staff and helping people who need you. Workplace culture? Toxic.

A typical day comprises assisting employees and individuals as required. 
As a DSP, I worked with men and women with autism and other developmental disabilities. Ensuring their safety at all times. You have to be passionate about the field in order to thirve- looking for a paycheck does not cut it.
As a Manager and Division Director, I oversaw group home staff and individuals, ensuring quality of care. Advocacy, open mindedness,  and mentoring are key strengths to have for such a position. It helps make an actual difference in the lives of the people served - making differences one person at a time.
Advancement can happen for you if you once again are willing to work for it. I moved into Human Resources from the residential department and it was the same level of performance. Ensuring that the customer comes first, going above and beyond to meet all needs, rising to the occasion to serve in other capacities if needed.

Most enjoyable part of my job is making individuals served happy and making a real difference in the smallest way I can. Being a part to the whole essentially.

No work life balance. Constantly gets stuck doing 16 or more hours shifts. HR is not honest or trustworthy and doesnt care about its staff. They pay new staff more than senior staff for the same job and make us jump through hoops to try to get fair pay. Take away christmas bonus, given attitude if you ever call out even if your not one of the people who call out often and have a genuine reason. They will do anything possible to pay us less and withhold any state bonus. Havent recieved a raise in years and last one was either 10 or 25 cents. Fast food workers get paid more than most staff here. Training is a joke. Company is a joke and everyone who works here knows that we just need a job to live. Wonder why they have no staff this job is a revolving door people always comming and going.

What is the best part of working at the company?
The agency allows DSPs to receive a high hourly rate with extra training and responsibilities. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The agency's Executive Director of residential is a negative person who prides herself on being abrasive and feared by staff. She Micro-managed the residential department negatively which has caused a very high turnover rate with residential supervisors, program coordinators, and assistant residential directors. If you are looking for a place where you do what you are told and do not look for any positive feedback or training, then this is the agency for you

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
With the exception of the residential department, the other departments are very friendly and kind

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
An ADR is responsible for 4-6 programs and they are constantly busy covering shifts that they cannot complete their work or train their supervisors.

The workload is too high for the hours worked (9 hour days already) causing to work over to finish things and this position is salary. Direct management says they understand and want to work on things but don’t/ can’t, causing many RNs and LPNs to leave.  In the past few years the salaries were raised, but no other evaluation  of the position was done.  4 sites covered per RN, which is too much to be thorough and also when you are covering other staff in vacant positions or out.  The work is important and the teams are great on the ground level, but this job is not what it’s advertised to be unfortunately. 

Often you would put puzzels together, have the guys do exercise after they returned home from programs. After exercise and table top games we sat for family style dinner, sometimes one of the individuals would assist with the preparations. After dinner most assisted with clean up of the kitchen and other chores of the house. The individuals would then relax for a while then would be assisted in preparing his lunch for the next days program. The individuals then prepared for bed each taking their evening medication, a shower and off to bed.

On the weekends and holidays the individuals would go on an outing either prior to dinner or after dinner.

Sometimes you would have to remember to record your daily activities with the assigned individuals and what their responses were.

I enjoyed the inter-activities with many of the individuals.

I worked per diem.

Cheap W/ Over Time
5 years- NO holiday bonus of any shape or size (despite the tasteless, empty promises from the CEO.) If you're broke as an agency- whatever- a bonus by definition is beyond normal payment expectations. HOWEVER, don't promise and push back dates if you can't deliver. I mean, what a disappointment, who does that?? Greystone does evidently. 
Good luck with career advancement. If you're IN- you're IN. But if you're OUT, you will always be OUT and will never be promoted regardless of work performance. 
Administration is, as it is in many agencies, totally separate from wage workers. "Us. And Them."  is the current workplace climate. Administration is quick to take punitive measures for any nonsense they can concoct but blatantly ignore good work or extraordinary efforts from staff. 

Company is in shambles, they have no respect for employees, senior management micromanages to the point were the turn over rate is scary high. This is a health and human services company that depends on its ground floor employees but disregards them as easily expendable. Upper management takes no responsibility For its mistakes and blunders, they always find a scape goat. Directors and department heads can’t run their own departments so they point fingers everywhere else.
