Received reports of the patients that had been assigned to me, from the night shift nurses. Quickly round and check all my patients to make sure that they were o.k. Reviewed the patient charts and follow up any stat orders. Checked the V/S of the patients. Administered medications, check labs and any diagnostic testing reports and communicate with the involved physicians as needed. Check the physician orders and follow up. I learned about the med-surg and in-patient Rehab patient care and the importance of the interdisciplinary team approach and its effectiveness. The management team was o.k. I had good co-workers. The hardest part of the job was to deal with the shortage of staff and multiple medically complex patients were assigned to me or other co-workers. The most enjoyable part of the job was when the patients received quality patient care and effective outcomes.

Working here was a very challenging thing. As a nurse in the OR it was very difficult to adjust to the culture of the place. Most coworkers were very rude to the new staff and made their jobs so much harder to learn leaving you to figure it out and feeling humiliated with the team you’re supposed to be working with for the surgery. Reporting such behaviors ended up in retaliation. However, there were some amazing people who had the patience to teach you how to do the job and took the time out of their day to be there so you won’t drown when your in a surgery you’ve never been in. To have a high functioning OR is an interdisciplinary collaboration. From central supply to SPD being below average in providing resources to staff it made the job very difficult to do as everything is out of stock or unavailable and surgeons take it out on you. Surgeons don’t take the count seriously and you’ll have to fight your way through counting instruments and softs before they close. Overall humbling experience. 

Management in my department is atrocious. No support whatsoever. No direction whatsoever. It's fly by the seat of your pants day in and day out. They just pile work on you & expect you to do it. I'm so disappointed. I'm seriously thinking about quitting because of this. I've been at Mercy for 2.5 years. I was under management by other staff who eventually left. It functioned much better with greater organization when those people were there. I feel like I'm barely holding on, and if another opportunity presents itself, I'll be quick to jump at it. If not for the dedication of some staff, I would have left a long time ago. But there is only so much you can take.

Mercy hospital was one of the best places I've work for. The only problem I had with it was that I couldn't advance in my career. I became a coder, and apply for several entry positions even in the outpatient center and they never gave me the opportunity. I know if several other person's with friends in management that were able to get the positions, but if you don't have friends working in there forget it.
Another thing was that I tried to get a full time position, and even when they had the position I was applying for open and I also had the experience, they gave the position to a person from an agency that was a personal friends from one of the managers.
So other than that, everything was good. Very nice personal to work with. Normal work load.

Team work in the ICU unit , staff are very tight and professional

Sometimes is frustrating deal with 3 patient at the same time in the ICU but we make sure the job is done.

This company make sure everybody can work as long the have the requirements. They are not discrimation related to race , religion or culture

Everyday is a new adventure , you do not know what you gonna have

The best part is everybody is like a family member.

The most stressful part is working under stress with people very sick but stable.

Excellent environment almost Hispanic culture and everybody help you when you need help. I love Mercy Hospital and their personal.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
I working since 8:00 am through 6:23 pm with excellent Team.

The teamwork and support from the shift in-charge staff.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Being cancelled for my shift, then having to use my PTO hours to make up my earnings.

The work environment felt like that of a loving family.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
A typical day at work is usually medium paced, when the case load is balanced fairly.

We had 12 hour shifts. Everyone worked well as a team from management to students. You learned how to perform certain procedures & how to organize/prioritize your schedule & patients. The co-workers were very knowledgable of their craft & taught us students very well. The hardest part of the job was gaining the patients' trust as they would see we were student nurses. The most enjoyable part of the job was when you were able to nurse the patient s back to health & were able to discharge them home.

What is the best part of working at the company?
Supplies are always readily available. The cafeteria La Carreta served good coffee.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The doctors and nurses are nasty

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Pretty divided. Immature nurses and staff that lack professionalism.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Dreadful. You regret ever signing a contract.

It was a very clean and organized installation. it was a shame that some of the facilities needed repairs and the computers were really old but, nothing is perfect. overall it was a well maintained Hospital. Staff was always nice and they treat everyone with the respect and delicacy. they were always willing to help and to teach. Very good opportunities for career advancement there.
