In my opinion, NSUB, is hands down the worst hospital I have ever stepped foot in.  The management is deceitful and only care about their bottom line.  The charge nurses are clique'ish and cutthroat - If you are not part of their "girls club" prepare to get thrown under the bus when you least expect it.  It is common community knowledge that a toxic culture has existed here for years.  Upon hire I was told these issues had been addressed.  In reality they had simply promoted many of them into management rolls. 

Info-matics regarding number of tests run within a certain time are posted in the hallways and break rooms in a public shaming format.  Management does this to encourage/pit employees against each other in an effort to squeeze more dollars from patient visits rather encouraging employees to focus on providing quality patient care.  

This hospital is known as a dumping ground by cops and EMS for psych patients and aggressive detainees that other hospitals refuse to take or put up with.  Due to this enabling culture of dangerous patients, I was witness to multiple violent patient on nurse assaults.  I myself, was assaulted more times at this single facility than in my entire medical career.  In the multiple times I was assaulted, never once was I checked on by management or the charge nurses and asked if I was ok or needed to take a minute to "collect myself."   

This hospital often offers $10,000 sign on bonuses because they cannot retain nurses due to the absolute toxic culture and work environment. Most nurses leave before a years time due to everything mentioned above. The only people that this institution is able to staff is new grads and travel nurses. If you ever meet a travel nurse that has worked at NSUB, it is highly likely they will swear it is the worst place they have ever worked. 

Do yourself a favor, avoid this facility at all costs.

The best thing about this place is co workers however the facility is constantly in turmoil with new directors and supervisors that they seem to find in the unskilled idiot section.  They groom and promote people that sucked at their job as a nurse so they promote them to a supervisor.  The education director was awful in the nursery, the current director in womens services has no idea what they do in the NICU.  They give the job to whoever with 'yes' the person above them to death and try to do six jobs at once. 
Every good program in the hospital they get rid of and give to untrained unskilled morons.  
Accounting people all got replaced by 'parallon' a company owned by HCA that has constant turnover due to ridiculous pay and too much work.  Parallon runs the place through credentialing that is required for vendors but costs them thousands per year, way too many contractors with no oversight but their hands are tied when it comes to getting jobs done.    
The only thing HCA worries about is paying the top heavy C staff way more than they are worth.  
The new 'ethics and compliance' director is an absolute self important arrogant witch with no couth or skills.  Way too many layers and redundant upper management with way too little skilled folks actually doing patient care.  
The CEO is ok, she at least pretends to care, the staff under her from department heads to supervisors are just useless.

What is the best part of working at the company?
This is the best facility I’ve ever worked in. The culture is the facility. The OR team is very nice to one another always ready to help and support. The manager is down to earth. Very supportive in every way. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The physical stress is normal to any medical facility. But the camaraderie and kindness and support you get overweighs the physical stress . 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Kind and supportive.. you feel right away that you belong. They are eager to teach newcomers.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
On a busy day, I have 3-4 cases. I get breaks in the morning and I get full uninterrupted 30- min lunch time. Which is very important to me.

Worked here before new imaging director took over. Was a wonderful, supportive place to work until then. When she came in she changed long time employees schedules (making them work weekends/ evenings) with no input from staff. She gave no raises based on a supposedly confidential employee survey when many people shared that the morale had gone way down. The fact that the hospital is for profit ensures that patient care and employee support are based on $$ incentive instead of best practices. 
I will never work for a for profit hospital again and I certainly won’t go to one for care.

We are our own boss. Clock in, sign into a pager check bed tracking print out a list of rooms that need to be completed. Stock your cart and head to the floor. It's really nice when everyone works together and helps each other out. Team work makes the dream work. The hardest part about the job is being short staffed, or when other employees slack. Being on the second shift we get hit the heaviest at night and we need to set up 3rd shift for success. The most rewarding part is when people notice my hard work and appreciates it. That alone makes me want to work 10 times harder the next day.

I worked nights with an exceptional staff.  All staff members relied on each other, and we all worked well together.  As the hospital added more rooms, and a more expansive ED, staff was left behind.  Staff usually worked short, but was able to accomplish the meeting of patient needs. Immediate management was supportive of staff needs, but upper management seemed clueless. 
Working nights created an atmosphere of team spirit .  We depended on each other, doctors, nurses and therapists working together as one unit.

There is no typical day. In a hospital I could be putting up shelves one day then preventing building disasters another day, then fixing a bed for a patient another.

Very diverse requirements from the staff all done with the desire to care for our patients.

The job satisfaction comes from knowing that what I fixed helped the nursing staff do their job or effected a patient directly and made their time at the hospital a little easier.

Float nurse to Telemetry, Medical, and Surgical. Started with 5 patients but would discharge and had to take admission right away. The day went by quickly. Was a safe place to practice nursing. Most enjoyable was taking care of the patients. Management was great and supported us with safe patient care and listened to suggestions on how to improve patient care experiences. My co-workers were great team members to help with a problem or extra hands when needed.

New management in the surgical department is difficult to work with. Not open to hearing out concerns of the staff. Administrators are unapproachable and offer  very little support to departments struggling with difficult management. Severely understaffed currently.

Great coworkers, ability to switch from full time to PRN

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Overworked and understaffed. Always expected to do more with less. Rarely got lunch or breaks on 12hr day shifts. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Management is always pushing staff to do more. Good is never good enough.
