I worked for HDMG for 1 year and 8 months. As a BSN, I started out as a Per Diem Telephone Advice Nurse. I accepted a full-time management position. I worked as Manager of Acute Care Case Management, Social Services and Telephone Advice Nurses for nearly a year.  After giving and open and unlimited notice to resign from the management position, I returned to the Telephone Advice
Line as a full-time employee. Less than  three months later the Telephone Advice Line was dissolved and they contracted out for the service. Contracting out was a smart business decision and I agree with that move. The problem was, HDMG gave ZERO notice to the Telephone Advice Nurse staff that the department was closing and laid all staff off without any heads up or opportunity to secure employment before being let go. The reason provided from the HR person was “normally if we tell employees ahead of time they will start calling in and not come in to work.”

As a professional nurse, I feel this was a very disrespectful and unprofessional decision on behalf of HDMG. As manager they would frown on staff leaving without proper notice, but they turned around and did exactly that to me and the other staff of the department.

I would NEVER recommend this company to an RN looking for job security and professional respect and appreciation. They only desire lower paid staff like LVNs and CMAs. As an RN, don’t waste your time on this company.

If you grew up in the AV thinking this is the Cadillac of jobs in medical groups out here you are mistaken. Your pay will have you on the verge of applying  for food stamps, and you’re over worked for the amount you get paid. The insurance is so expensive you’ll have to apply for medi-cal and when your finally ready to move on management won’t acknowledge you with a simple “thank you”. If you thought you’d be able to apply for a different position and haven’t hit a year you’ll be denied the chance to grow, but your handbook does not state your position is a contracted one year position nor are you told this when you are hired. Your handbook means nothing as they play by their own rules. When you’re  due for your yearly review you will wait months and be told “we’re behind”, once your raise comes it’ll be severely taxed. The only good thing about this job will be your  coworkers and the the convinces of not having to commute along with the relationship you grow with your patients. 

You can get a lot of hands on experience in Urgent Care especially if you're new to the field. This is a good job to start off but it is not a place for a career. The pay is horrible especially for all the work they make us do. They make us learn 4 different departments and only pay us for 1 but everyone is coming up to you while you're working to ask questions about different departments, or you're placed in 1 department but forced to work another department at the same time. The management is not good, they lie about everything and they gaslight you to give them the information they want to hear. They talk about you to other workers and they claim they don't like drama but then go and create unnecessary drama. Again this job is good if you are barely starting out because you'll gain a lot of experience, but just get your experience and leave.

I have worked at High Desert Medical Group for five years as a licensed clinical social worker, and community-government relations. The company values initiative, and supports its employees.

Many of the events prior to Covid-19 were designed to build and maintain company morale and a sense of fun. Something as simple as bringing your children in, costumed, on Halloween, and having a costume contest, goes a long way to assisting people working in a fast-tempo healthcare clinic environment to appreciate their co-workers.

While I did make a few very good friends working here, I would never go back. Most of the supervisors are terrible. Very childish. Talk about employees behind their backs. If you're not in their clique, they will try and make every day awkward for you. Don't bother complaining to HR because they just turn around and tell your supervisor what was said, which is fine, but they also tell them who complained, which makes the situation a heck of a lot worse. I'm grateful to them for employing me for ten years but the last year or so that I was there, I couldn't get out of there fast enough.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
ALOT of administration micro managing and leaving providers out of the process

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Admin makes all decisions, providers are just the face of care and have to deal with the fallout

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
As hospitalist...see pts, take calls, group meeting that can last for 1 hour or more in the morning or whenever medical director calls for it. Have to cover for other providers between 2 hospitals and sometimes the night coverage.

Except for being self employed one of the best jobs I've ever had.

Up early and out by 4:30. Always on time for passenger pick up and drive to destination. Depending on drop off or wait for return trip. Communicate with manager as to status and ETA. Manager wants always on time, dressed right and drive with safety in mind. Passenger must always arrive on time. Always in enjoy the people I drive and it is always a pleasure to be of service.

very busy company. long hours. was close to home. management was fair, and offered several perks to it's employees. people were always helpful, and friendly.every day was extremely busy. learned to work under pressure.  management was always around, and ready to assist, if needed staff always worked well together. hardest part was trauma's and when patients expired. I loves all the staff, and it was very hard to leave

Disappointed how management interacted with RNs. High turn over unfortunately. Easy burnout. Demanding 13hr days. No set schedule. Nurses leave quicker than could be replaced. It's a team work environment but if you don't fit the mold, coworkers and management  just add on to already stressful shifts. Making it a not so conducive environment for the nurse who just wants to work without getting caught up in interpersonal drama.

I worked for 2 years as Nurse practitioner at HDMG. Loved the positive environment at this place. Good benefits. Very flexible and administration try their best to work with you.
It’s very easy to balance to personal and professional life at this place. I have recommended many NPs about this place. Doctors are very willing to coordinate  care with NPs and lot of learning at work place. Got special training for  joint injections and suturing technique from expert physicians here.
