Harbor ucla medical center is the first and last acute hospital i joined here in the us.i worked in 6 west and retired in 6 west for 30 years and 5 months of county service with no regrets but full of life because it was challenging every single day.i enjoyed every day of it.by joining this organization i am proud and had the satisfaction to be called :nurse.the management is excellent.they listen to every member.every patient here is treated with high respect.patient care and patient/family satisfaction is the goal of every nurse.the co -workers and the hardest part of the job is, to me ,i cannot define it because it is already overshadowed by the enjoyment and fulfillment i receive at  
the end of my shift.should i die  after work, i will tell my creator "i was a nurse in 6 west. " using it as my passport to heaven.as i tell patient and visitor, and co- workers; if only harbor ucla will provide medical benefits to retirees this will be my hospital because i know i am in good hands.

Its the best place and trauma center I've ever worked in.  Notably one of the best trauma centers in the country including it's sister hospital USC county where I did some of my rotations while I was in school.  It was my first RN job.  Amazing experience.  In my work history there is really nothing that compares here in Vegas.  I learned a lot there.  I am so grateful for that.  I do miss it and made lifelong friends at Harbor.  Our attending physicians backed up the Rn's and residents 100%.  Most employees really wanted to be there and were enjoyable to work with.  Everyone from the housekeeper to the clerks, etc. Great environment.   I would highly recommend working there if you are in Calif, or planning to move there.

I worked with neonates. Full term and premature. I was able to assist in many procedures to include: resuscitation in the delivery room, umbilical catheterization, exchange transfusion, lumbar taps and sepsis work ups. Being it was a teaching hospital there was a lot going on and i learned to manage my time and to work with many different people on many different levels. I got to be proficient in identifying the small changes that could identify impending complications and distress. I started peripheral and scalp IV's frequently and did a lot of teaching to the parents. Some examples are: breast feeding, CPR, signs and symptoms of distress or infection, positioning and daily care. I was also floated to PICU, Pediatric Ward, NICU, and Postpartum.

My job at Harbor UCLA working in the Cancer Registry Department was very rewarding until I retired in December 2013. I learned a lot of new skills.  When I transferred to Harbor UCLA Hospital I had never worked in the Cancer Registry Department before and this was a challenging experience for me and I was willing to learn as much as I could. I was an asset to the department because of my willingness to learn what was given me to do, and I took pride in what I accomplished. I really enjoyed my assignments. I learned new computer skills. I interacted with cancer patients by phone when I did my followup. I entered their progress notes in the computer. I daily checked the Social Security Death Index to keep a record for our department.

Becoming an Intern at Harbor UCLA Outpatient Mental Health clinic was a great way for me to gain hands-on experience in becoming a Mental Health Case Manager. I was able to assist clients with job information by posting job leads to a bulletin board, which was made available to anyone coming to the office.On certain days, I would assist my supervisor with helping clients develop resume's and also using the computer for themselves effectively. However, I was not able to get past learning how to properly use the company computer system to create client health plans and for imputing data into the system. This area of work was not completed due to my inability to intern due to an illness that occurred.

There's obvious favoritism with management. I've been accused of things I couldn't have done bc I physically wasn't there to make the mistakes. Meanwhile, management would look the other way if their fave nurse did something wrong. Coworkers are ok if you can get in the right clique, if not, you're SOL and end up with little support and terrible assignments. In cases of emergencies, you can 100% rely on your team, even those you don't get along with which is comforting to know. We're often understaffed with little supportive personnel like NAs, phlebotomists, etc. But, being a teaching hospital, you often get alot of experience with interesting cases. Kind of a baptism by fire experience for me

Admitting and Discharging of patients depending on time of day,
making outside appointment for inpatient, this was a great experience of learning motivated me to pursue a nursing career,but I changed positions in Administration billing department finding resources for patient billing.
the most enjoyable part of this job were the staffing, moral of office and people working around you made it very enjoyable to work,.

It is a teaching hospital and you have to deal with numerous staffs from med student, interns and residents but it is rewarding since the collaboration of working together is present

Challenging but you gain a lot of knowledge everyday

Harbor UCLA is a great place to work. I am RRT and I have been working there for the last three and a half years. The management is well educated, very compassionate, and helpful when it comes to scheduling shifts, helping with your assignments, and supports you if you need it. The Cardiopulmonary department is excellent. The coworkers and the leads are very knowledgeable and polite. The physicians and the residents like to communicate with the RTs and and ask for our opinions when it comes to a vent changes, or weaning parameters.
Parking is a little overwhelmed but it’s free and you can easily find a spot if you go there 20-30min before the start of your shift. 

I can see why new grads come to get a years experience and leave. In my time there management prioritized finances over everything else. On a Med/Surg floor on nights we were constantly understaffed and overworked. CA ratio law states 5:1 but I constantly had up to 7 patients each night not accounting for acuity. Due to this, we were unable to take breaks and overtime for that was not approved. Even though there were full time spots open, no one was promoted due to "insufficient funds." Charge nurse constantly gave her job duties to us as she had "important emails" to answer each night. Floor nurses were nice at least, most of them.
