The senior management discriminates against those with disabilities and do not conduct investigations once reported. You will be fired for making a report for disability discrimination for other reasons such as citing that you did not make certain calls, but then they will cite you once you make the correction, citing that you interrupted the sales strategy. Damned if you do and damned if you don't! They will make you feel very uncomfortable or even little about the discrimination and then criticisze you for not making emergency considerations. The tasks are listed in the job description, HELLO!
The company struggled to staff leadership positions and it leaves you and your community with a lack of support. Messages between all leadership is mixed, inconsistent, and confusing. It's no wonder why they cannot meet their metrics.
You cannot institute discipline in staff who do not want to show up for work and fairly pay those according to their policies. The moment you discipline the staff and they bark to senior leadership, you have senior leadership removing the corrective action and disciplining executive leadership. Who really wants to work for an organization that does not back their executive leadership? Seriously, you create a hostile/tense work environment. Better yet, lets go back to your policies and procedures: they like to institute unwritten policies to credit people for missed time and expect executive leadership to know what these unwritten policies are without receiving training on it! Employee(s) remain undisciplined, so the behavior continues. God, if you discipline the employee(s) then you may be disciplined yourself and loose your job!
They hire folks who really lack experience and direction in the field (never worked one day in the healthcare industry) and wonder why they do not meet their metrics. Don't attempt to help improve their metrics because you'll be disciplined for attempting to help their metrics, grow their leads and convert.
Best yet, they want to blame you for not making metrics when they do not have their own junk together!
They turn each position over quick! Do yourself a favor and look for employment elsewhere! Terrible company to work for!

Advice to Management
Solidify your business practices and policies, write them down, and publish them, stick with them and support your executive leadership team! Support your executive teams by enforcing your written rules/policies and educating those on your unwritten rules/policies. Stop your discrimination practices! Take a good hard look at your turnover rates and then ask yourselves why is it that you cannot keep anyone and then why you are not hitting your metrics? It starts at the top!

Having worked at Harmony at Brentwood for almost a year, it was a complete disappointment. Management back stabs one another and the leadership is politically and self motivated. A typical day was a 10-14 hour day with very little support. The workplace culture is completely toxic. The only bright spot was most of the kitchen people I worked along side, most of the residents and the corporate home office director in my department. She was the only professional I encountered.  She gave complete support to my DSD. It is a management game of cover yourself at all costs, non support when it counts and beratement. If you do not play “their game”, you are an outcast and then the paper trail to get rid of you begins. You are threatened if you indicate you are following the chain of command and getting in touch with the corporate office.
The dining services director that opened the place singlehandedly was one of the hardest working people I’ve ever known. He put the kitchen and staff together by himself, a great staff, may I add, including every piece of equipment and utensil. He made sure the kitchen was as clean as any kitchen I’ve ever seen and completely organized. He took care of his staff, although tough sometimes, that is what is needed in a commercial and professional kitchen. The best part was that he truly cared. About the residents and his staff and his kitchen production. Working six or seven days a week. And he was unjustly pushed out. He hired a dining room supervisor that was fired from another senior living community nearby.  He still gave her an opportunity but she was a shark. She is truly the laziest person I have ever worked with in my entire life. She stood around and did nothing and just wanted some sort of power. She made up lies about the DSD that was let go. Since his departure her laziness has gone to an entirely new level.
I do not recommend working at Harmony at Brentwood. Multiple people quit or get fired on a weekly basis. You get very little to no support and your job is not secure in anyway whatsoever.
Even if you give two weeks notice, the next day they let you go. Your integrity is rewarded with their non-integrity.
This review may seem like sour grapes, but it is 100% true. You can speak to any ex-employee and they will tell you exactly the same and worse.

What is the best part of working at the company?
I liked that it was in a good location as far as distance. I also liked the pay as well as the residents. I worked both the assistant living side and in the dementia unit and enjoyed both experiences. If you have the right mind set, attitude and proper training, it can be a very good place to work.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The most stressful part about working there was some of the lazy staff and administrators. When I first started, everyone was more on the same mind frame, but as time went by, the administration started caring less about the employees and residents but more about titles and the money. As for the staff, they became lazy, combative with one another. It was an absolute drama fest there. It was so bad that many of the staff that had been there from the start began to leave including myself. I have never been at a job to where administration is the main cause of arguments, fights and ultimate disrespect. I hung in there for 4 years, but watching and hearing all of the drama just began to be to much. I felt that trying to care for the residents was not the importance of the staff there but getting titles and positions were. Very disappointing and heart breaking and I was not going to use my hard working credentials on foolishness.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
The environment was good at first but became very unsafe, and unpleasant. As for the culture, it was okay, good have had some improvements as well.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
It was very busy being that I was in the memory care unit. I had to help with several things as well as doing my job as a med tech. Some responsibilities were to: help dress residents, prepare meals, wash clothes, straightened up rooms, help with activities, write reports, make phone calls, and any other duties that may have needed to be done.

This is a company that has potential, but falls short every time to meet it. There are some serious issues with management, from having massive turnover, and lack of involvement with what is going on in terms of worker and resident concerns. Any concerns brought to management are most likely to fall on deaf ears. Its a routine look of empathy, but nothing is done to resolve issues.

There are tons of tons of responsibilities they would love to throw on to you, but they give you no authority let alone time or staff to complete them fully, then ask why things were performed not up to standard. Very strict about punch times too, even when the workload is for two people.

Call outs are a big thing too. Management will almost bend your arm to request you to stay and work to cover their already short schedules. And if you agree, you'll probably be working double digit shifts, like 13 hours and up.

They are short staffed constantly throughout most of the departments, do a poor job in training, which leaves for inadequate staff, which isn't the workers fault. Many are expected to train one shift and handle on floor to themselves, or do an experienced persons job after one 8 hour shift of training.

Your department becomes your family in all honesty, you all need to watch out for each other and help each other as much as possible. It really is a family structure with your immediate coworkers.

The residents, are mostly worth it though. Many, many sweet people live in the facility, and care more for you than the management there would.

Since I have been employed with Harmony Senior Services they have gone through 3 managements. The current ones have no idea what they are doing, they have numerous visits from Corporate office with numerous complaints from staff, residents. As well with frequent visits from Department of Social Services License about the lack of documentation, process for Incident Report, Medication Errors and the lack of knowledge that Care Coordinator has or has not. The residents are so lovely; but the staffing since the current ED and HCC is very poor. Weekly people are quitting or not showing up for work. Staffing issues are enormous and management does not offer any help, assistance; except to place people on schedule without their knowing, agreement. Is it so hard to copy the main staff sheet. Obviously, for the management it is. Oh; they want to implement mandatory stay over if staff don't show or call out; which if frequently. They don't have staff to do the above and don't appreciate the ones they have. So sad because with the right Management this facility in Yorktown, Va could be the premier in the area. Current management need to be relieved of their duties and allow some other knowledgeable individuals to move in their places. Replace management!!! If not the entire facility is on the brink of closing.

The kitchen and dietary is a fairly easy job but the the management is absolutely terrible and it has trickled down to the employees. I do not recommend a POC or anyone who is not conservative, Christian, to work here i just do NOT recommend anyone to work here else you want a drama filled day and to be walked all over and get your name dragged through the mud. I faced so much discrimination from the staff and the residents. There is a lot of gossiping between the management and employees. The day i signed my offer letter i was sitting in the office and the person who does Business Administration was gossiping to the person over Finances about someone. Then the same Business Administration person was gossiping about other departments during my orientation to us. This company is going to fall apart. The management do not care about the resident or employees they obviously only care about the money. The nurses and caregivers treat the residents absolutely terrible it is sad and talk about them as if they're not humans. Please do not work here or put your family members here. I enjoyed doing my job but all the drama, gossiping, and cattiness is ridiculous. There is also not and in house HR and they will not give you HRs number so if you have any concerns the Executive Director will say i will report it and nothing happens. PLEASE AT ALL COST STAY AWAY!

When I started here as the life enrichment director my intentions were and still are to prioritize my residents. I’ve noticed over the last year a drastic change in corporate and the decisions they make are not in the best interest of the residents. Thankfully my building had an amazing ED that acted as a threshold to keep the corporate culture out of our community. We were 100% occupancy for an entire year because of the culture we built by prioritizing and building relationships with our residents. That ED has now moved on and everyone from employees to the residents are feeling the effects. I wish higher management would allow different communities to be run at the capacity that works best for each individual community instead of putting the exact same standards on every location. Every state is different and every city different and they’ve taken a lot of creative freedom from management on the ground level and it has really effected the culture here and I’m sure a lot of other communities. What gave me joy working here was the team of directors I work with and the residents I’ve built relationships with. Things unfortunately aren’t the same anymore and I can’t see it turning back for the better and my time with harmony has come to an end. I wish the best for residents and anyone that decides to work for this company.

When I started out at The Chamberlin it was, by far, the best place I have ever worked at. I met many wonderful people and made many new long- lasting friends. The best part about it was that I was getting paid to have fun. Even though I had to do my basic duties like serve food and maintain a clean work area it didn't seem to feel like the process of a normal boring day to day job. The work was not hard and the hours were pretty solid. We generally worked about 30 hours a week and had at least 2 days off in between. Overtime, though, as we began to lose people our management did not make it a high priority to replace the members that left which left the remaining employees, like myself, to carry on a much larger workload. It got to the point where the management had to stop their duties to help us servers every night because of how lacking our staff was. Since I've left I have heard that things are looking up for the Chamberlin and that they're getting back on track. It's unfortunate that I had to leave before things worked out but I am sure it is still a great place to work for anyone that's looking for good pay and wants to work in a fast pace, family oriented environment.

A typical day at work:
Breaking my back lifting residents without lift equipment nor proper training. Working circles around my co-workers because they are too busy having gossip hour or playing on their phones.

What you believe you learned:
Harmony Senior Services is a greedy corporation that extracts a lot of money from residents. This place expects employees to live at their community. You'll get texts all the time about coming to work on your days off or opposite shifts.

Management:
I do not know what to say about management. There are good ones and bad ones. 

Workplace culture:
One of the worst I have ever experienced! Do people no longer become adults in today's world? This is not high school! This is not reality television. We need to treat everyone humanely and respectfully. That does not happen.

The hardest part of the job:
Lifting and toileting residents without lift equipment. Due to being a male I was expected to do all the lifting. My body is not going to be broken down by pickup residents. Wheelchair bound, and bed bound residents ought to be in a skilled nursing home. These duties are to be done by clinical staff, people who are trained to do such work. Resident Care Aides receive no such training.

The most enjoyable part of the job:
I tried to bring smiles and genuine care to my residents.

Nothing you do is enough. It starts at corporate and trickles its way down. They have meetings and tell you that you have to hire more people because it’s not a one person job then deny you the hours to implement the requirements they gave you. Corporate talks to their department heads like dogs. They expect you to run a fancy kitchen with the bare minimum of staff and can’t even make sure you have the food you need. Stressful environment is an understatement! The new changes they are making are a joke and they are not doing anything to help the staff but say yes you need help but your not getting it and then yelling at you when you can’t keep up. None of the department heads will speak up and tell corporate what a disaster it is but behind closed doors they are all talking to each other and struggling because of how they are being treated. When you do manage to pull off something good you will never hear anything from them. Your work will never be appreciated because all they do is pat themselves on the back for making things worse. Company wide it’s a blame game in all departments honestly. No one takes accountability or does anything to fix the issues it is always someone else’s fault and the cycle continues. Run don’t walk away it is the best thing you could possibly do for your mental health! They will promise you the moon but will give you crumbs.
