Like any healthcare environment, the work can be fast-paced and emotionally demanding at times. However, Haven does an excellent job supporting its employees through strong teamwork, open and transparent communication, and a leadership team that is genuinely invested in both staff well-being and patient outcomes. Colleagues consistently step up to support one another, and the shared commitment to patient-centered care creates a sense of purpose that makes even challenging days feel meaningful and manageable.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
A typical day is creative, collaborative, and fast-moving. I spend time producing and shaping the In Good Company podcast, working closely with teammates to share meaningful stories that reflect Haven’s mission and values. The role also involves collaborating across departments, aligning messaging, and supporting marketing and communications initiatives that highlight the impact of our work. Every day is a little different, which keeps things engaging, and it’s rewarding to know the content we create helps connect employees, patients, and the community.

I was approached by a recruiter for the hospice RN position. I never worked in hospice before, and I received 4 weeks of preceptor training. I honestly did not feel prepared enough to start taking cases on my own after 4 weeks. 
There were multiple communication issues between not being informed about meetings/times, not being informed of schedule changes, and not being informed about policies/procedures. I also stated many times that I needed to be placed locally, and then management would try to send me to locations far outside of the area we agreed upon. 
The pay periods are very odd (you work 2 weeks and get paid for that time 2 weeks later) example: work hours from 11/17-12/1 would be paid out on 12/12. So when I started, I did not get a paycheck for a month. This is a known issue but no one informed me until after I started my first day. 
When I voiced concerns about feeling unprepared to take
On my own cases, management did step up and offer to help me which I did appreciate greatly. 
When I brought up the multiple communication issues, I got brushed off. There were at least 4 large communication issues within my first 8 weeks at the job. 
The charting is rather heavy and there were multiple days I’d finish work by 5, but I’d have to go home and do hours of charting. 
Overall, the job sounds nice but I felt like I got a bit of a bait and switch when I actually came to work here.  It might be a great fit for an experienced hospice nurse, but I would not recommend it for a new hospice nurse. 

Management: My first few weeks that I started, I felt were disorganized because I took on a lot of clients that were ‘out of my availability’ so I could get more hours. However, in providing some grace and consistency, it did eventually pay off. I currently adore my ‘permanent’ clients and I feel like I have better “matches” that provide me with  higher work satisfaction. I really do appreciate that it is a ‘small business’, and they do try to offer incentives to pick up additional shifts. They do raffles occasionally and cookout events as well!!

Hard part: I will say it is super difficult to provide care for individuals that keep their house 75° during the summer, but I understand financially why they do that (I am looking forward to the winter for that lol). Personally, I do sweat working hard to clean and take care of the client(s). 

Learned: I have learned a lot from the APC (advanced personal care) class they offer. I would highly recommend taking it to anyone because it does help you care for anyone who is more “complicated”. It is similar skills you learn as a CNA!! 

Enjoyable part: I would say that the most enjoyable part of this job is definitely the clients. (Most) are very sweet and certainly appreciative of the care you provide to them. 

I have been in the medical field for 30 years. I've experienced all aspects of nursing from CNA to management. There are so many positive things about Haven that I actually had to narrow the list. First, its an environment of teamwork. Haven does not "eat its young", questions and learning are encouraged. You can be brand new to home health and excel at Haven. We take care of each other no matter what position you are in. Second, the owners of Haven value employee input and suggestions into the operation of the company. Where does that ever happen? Only at Haven! All supervisor's and management will listen to you, the company is flooded with support. It's part of Haven culture. Haven focuses on home and work balance. I've sat in meetings where this was a topic discussed by the owners. Here is how crazy good Haven is. 2 weeks ago in a meeting two new employees both stated, I'm just waiting for the shoe to drop" , referring to thae fact that their employment is too good to be true. Ive been with Haven for almost two years and the shoe has not dropped! I love my Job! Haven backs up what they promise with action, not words. This review was just a small glimpse....I encourage you to fund out for yourself.

You have your guidelines on what you can help your clients with based off Medicaid, VA, or private pay. I think it's a client to client thing on what they'd be comfortable with you as a health aide helping them with. 

I've learned a lot from helping my clients, most importantly how to be there for them and cleaning, meal prepping, and multiple ways to do things like baths and laundry. 

The most enjoyable thing about my job is the work-life balance it gives me as a parent and how I can manage clients with a busy life schedule. The hardest part about my job is wishing I could give more care to my clients whether it be more hours of help or just lending a hand with other things. 

I feel like management can improve on communication though. There have been times I've arrived at a client's home and they weren't there or I've arrived and they didn't know I was coming at all. And there's some clients that don't like morning visits and they are scheduled in the morning time. It seems a little unfair to everyone involved. I'd encourage them to get better at that. 

My director threatened to not pay my overtime and told me I was an expendable employee as a form of motivation to get me to work harder. They trained me wrong however, the person who trained me wasn't held accountable.  And the training process was a collective total of 2 days watching videos. With 3 hours in between those days actually be trained to do my position before they set me off on my own to figure the rest out. I was constanly being told things arent "black and white" for justification on why processes werent finalized or why they couldnt give us a solid answer on something.  It was so bad that I had to created a time and date log to cover myself and document what I was being told because they would come back and state they never said that a week later. They talk about work life balance and the benefits however the benefits are extremely basic and the PTO accrual rate is so low that you dont accrue enough time to cover more than a day every 2-3 months and working from home isnt an option. Overall, I would describe working for Haven as chaotic and disorganized. 

You will hear “welcome to the best company you will ever work for” when you walk through the front doors of Haven Home Health and Hospice whether it’s your first day or just inquiring about a job. Just a few days ago I said that welcoming a new employee that was training at the front desk with another employee that had  been with the company for over a year. The seasoned employee responded by saying, “ I thought when I was told that it was a bunch of bologna. But it’s really true…this is the best company.”  There is so much good in Haven that I’ll reach the max characters on this review before I can say it all. All I can say is that Haven is way different and not what your use too. Trust me, I’ve been a nurse for 30 years and have done everything. After more than 2 years at Haven,  I am happy, feel like what I do is important and matters, I am part of a family and team. At Haven the patients and employees really do matter because we do what is right and not what is easy. 

I am newly out of college and started my position here at Haven this year in the Marketing department. It is by far the best place I have ever worked. The employee culture is amazing, every single person I work with truly enjoys their job and wants what is best for the company. Everyone loves coming to work everyday and we all work extremely well as a team. Our CEO is present consistently and we have weekly meetings on how he can help us improve and be the best we can in our position. I have never had management that truly cares so much about both my personal and professional wellbeing and improvement. I truly feel at home here at Haven and plan on staying here as long as possible. I would recommend to anyone looking for a long-term and amazing career to look at Haven.

A typical day is normally very good and the people I have are very nice, I’ve learned a lot on how to do things for others and to work around schedules and time management. Management and office staff seem very unorganized, they insist on being the middle man but never contact the clients about any changes. I’ve been to homes, picking up open shifts and the people did not know I was coming. They neglected to ask the clients if they need anyone to  come out at those times or even give them any notice that someone will be there. The hardest part is  dealing with conditions in some peoples homes that Haven says is fine to work in. I’ve been in homes that should be condemned and in no condition for a caregiver to be able to help that person in any way without risking their own health.  The most enjoyable part is when you’re able to help someone with their daily routine and it makes a difference to them.

What is the best part of working at the company?
 Being a part of this hospice team has been a blessing and an amazing experience. When someone receives a terminal diagnosis, it affects the family  as well, so Haven Hospice works to support the patients  loved ones by providing emotional support and hospice education to help the patient/family feel comforted and at peace. Serving these families during the hardest time in their lives has been a privilege. Another great thing about this company is the support I receive from everyone. Upper management is always available, transparent, patient, and they’re about the nicest people I’ve met. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Seeing people on hospice who don’t have friend or family support is heart breaking, but Haven goes above and beyond to bring peace and comfort to these people. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Haven feels like family to me.
