Health Plan of San Mateo

My experience with Health Plan of San Mateo was nothing short of a nightmare. I joined the company with no prior claims experience, fully expecting a comprehensive training program to get me up to speed. To say that the training I received was abysmal would be an understatement. It was as if they handed me a list of online resources and told me to figure it out on my own.

Speaking of management, I can't say enough about how truly horrible they are at HPSM. They appear to have a knack for throwing their employees under the bus without any valid evidence to support their claims of poor performance. It's as if they care more about protecting their own reputations than genuinely helping their team succeed. The lack of support and guidance from management left me feeling frustrated, demoralized, and disrespected.

In addition to the lack of support, there's a noticeable and persistent problem with miscommunication between departments. It's as if they all operate in their own little silos, completely isolated from one another. This lack of cohesion and coordination only adds to the chaos and confusion that permeates the workplace.

All in all, my time at HPSM was a deeply disheartening experience. I can't in good conscience recommend this company to anyone seeking a healthy, supportive work environment. If you value proper training, fair treatment, and effective communication, you'd be wise to look elsewhere for employment.

A typical day includes reviewing inpatient acuity and discharge plans  on-site  at Seton Medical Center in Daly City. I enjoyed the care managers at Seton very much, and the feeling was mutual! 
 
Without access to Seton medical records remotely, a lot of time was consumed locating and printing essential patient information needed for my charting. At HPSM, navigating the  documentation process required hunting and gathering information from several unconnected software programs and text icons, which I mastered incrementally.

Executive mnagement worked hard to present new programs such as Duals Demonstration (MediConnect) which is managed Medicare and MediCal. In addition the Medical Directors were approachable and caring. However, the department manager was non-transparent and unprofessional. 

The company employed mostly non - clinical people.There were some incredibly talented nurses at HPSM which were the best part of the job, although we did not collaborate or have IDT sessions. The hardest part of the job was the absence of patient contact, which is an area that I excel, and the siloed nature of the company.

Mgmt plays games with you & if you disagree with them, look out! You'll be out. Is friendly overall to work at with good benefits & nice cafeteria area & parking. Just beware of Marketing Manager. She is a vindictive & if you disagree with her she doesn't take it well at all! Thinks having food parties should make everyone happy 99% of the time as she put it, but she micro-manages people & therefore no trust in her staff. Listens to other people on her team who give her made-up & non-verified info! Is too bad because most of the other people are very nice & help you!

Fun place to work at. Great management. The workers are very engaging and are team players. The management is very approachable and willing to step in when necessary. Great company with the possibility to grow. The company is expanding at a fast rate.

When I worked at HPSM, which was about 9 years ago, it was a very good company to work for. Management was supportive and would provide direction in any situation that the employee would need help or assistance. The atmosphere was great as most employees felt appreciated. The only reason I left HPSM was due to my moving over two hours away.

Management do not try and know the person who working for them.
Judging who your character is before working with you to see what you can do.
Over all fun activities ever other month
Hardest part keeping  Human service and Management happy. They make mistakes all the time. And the little people loose there jobs.

I went into HPSM with no background in claims, received horrible training and was held accountable for my performance in light of receiving subpar training.  Management sucks, they care more about themselves than their employees and there is a lot of infighting within departments.

My most enjoyable part of my job. As an early adopter of a non profit career, I took a lot of pride in helping under privileged people in my community. Felt very rewarding to wake up every day knowing I was on my way to help and possibly change someones life.

I get my assignment from my manager for the day and work the list to complete as many as possible.I use Milliman Criteria guidelines to complete my reviews. The company works with the MediCal population of San Mateo County.

Not a good place to work, the management does not have their stuff together and humiliates the staff with micro management. There is a low moral in this environment and people are leaving left and right.
