What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
People are the heart of our organization. Fun and ambition is in our DNA. Trust, diversity and progress are our strengths.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
On my average day of work, I start the day off by checking my emails. This way, I can reply to my manager, media agents, brand managers and get everything organized at the start of the day. I then look over my to-do list and get started on the projects that have my top priority. I spend most of my morning looking into new trends that can go with my marketing strategy and brand plans. I am most creative in the morning, which is why I like to do my brainstorming and writing right away.
After lunch, I start to work on the more analytical aspects of my job. I look at all the data we pull from our social media, radio, Tv, newspaper, ooh, and  use Excel to record all of this data. At the end of each week, I compile it into a report and present it to my team. I find that this blend of creative work and analytical work helps me stay interested in what I'm doing.

Heineken is a nice place to work but it has many downfalls. Managers are out of touch in the market and have no sense of the beer business. Working in the beer industry is highly competitive and managers thought just because we are Heineken we should have more cases on the floor vs other beers. Goals were never attained because managers across the region had different goals to attain and were not aligned. This was very stressful for employees under them because managers did not have the answers. Also as well they would tell every employee it’s your business run it how you would like it. To me that’s a terrible thing to say, yes there should be some freedom but a manager needs to direct their employees to a goal and develop them to get them there. After these layoffs they had they kept employees who were extremely inexperienced vs others. Heineken is very political thu want 50% women workforce, which is nice and I am all for but I’m more for go with people with experience and more qualified to do the job. I do not recommend working here at the moment. Maybe in 3-5 years it will be a better place.

Incredible learning experience working with one of the brightest mentors and partners I know of, developing, marketing, selling, operating and managing a business. 

Most enjoyable part of the job was securing new client accounts, fulfilling and serving their needs. I became known as the go to guy for business and luxury transportation. 

Most challenging part of the job was the 24-7 personal attention to client needs by cellphone and email. I enjoyed it for years, in particular being in the field selling and building relationships. As years passed my life goals and mission has changed. 

Hardest part of the job was the time and attention away from my family. 






I wish I never left Heineken USA. They allow you to learn and grow. You have so many opportunities to work and learn from each other. Upper management were always there for you. They gave you constructive feedback so you can excel in your position. I was promoted in 2006 to Ethnic Sales Manager. I had the opportunity to train, coach and mentor my team by building on there strengths and over coming obstacles. 

Heineken USA provides an opportunity to manage a a class portfolio of import brands and work with an amazing sales force.

The role is managing the city of Chicago.  One large wholesaler, Chicago Beverage Systems, handles the brand footprint for the city.

Seeing over a four person team in order to drive sales and execution throughout the market with the wholesaler and retailers.

The Chicago market is an extremely competitive market. A high craft share and craft breweries such as Lagunitas, Revolution and Half Acre.  Company Headquarters such as Miller Coors and Constellation brands call Chicago home.

The role is both challenging and exciting.

Typical workday is filled with account management and marketing creativity to drive brand sales.

I learned the importance of patience and adaptability when dealing with various customer behavioral traits.

Management provided clear objectives on a quarterly basis to keep the productivity at a respectable level.

I love my co-workers. Passionate and caring people.

The hardest part of the my job is managing distributors and their sales force. With a complex base of alcoholic brands, it can be challenging to maintain focus from the sales reps.

The most enjoyable part of the job is the ability to make my own schedule to drive results, but also being held accountable.

The upsides: Great brands , free beer, above average benefits, global exposure, diversity, fun events, training and education, nice colleagues , work from home flex, summer Fridays, happy hour Thursdays, and good swag. 

The down sides: Hard to get in, many steps to the pre interview process. No matching 401k for the first year, no stock options . Limited upward mobility and career planning. Demanding hours. Inefficient systems . Lack of accountability in certain departments, makes it challenging to get things done. Lots of the usual corporate red tape and politics . Constant business model changes . Struggling overall beer market.  A lagging innovation pipeline to give a competitive edge.

Everyday was a different day. One minute on the phone planning travel, the next running to get lunch or traveling to a hotel and planning an event.

I learned how to work with many different cultures within a small environment; different ways of working everyday,

Management was good and always had an door open.

Co-workers were always willing to help.

Hardest part of the job was to bring grade A assistance to executive while traveling onsite in an environment with limited resources.

The most enjoyable part of the job was event planning. Challenging and exciting. Had to think on my feet at all times to successfully plan events while still doing my main role with no mistakes.

The Company is always worried about cultural fit. Most candidates don't make it through interview process based on culture fit. The funny thing is no one can explain what the culture is. High turnover and little opportunity for advancement unless you want to live at your desk. Don't let the bar in the office fool you. They have happy hours every Thursday and no one shows up. HR runs the business not the other way around. When HR is in the room you can cut the air with a knife.Stay away. You won't last and then your next opportunity will be in jeopardy based on your tenure with company.
