Working at Henderson has its pros and cons. 
Pros:
You make your own schedule
Get to work from home
Have an opportunity to connect with clients

But working here has more cons then pros
Cons:
Be ready for that one day where a client has a crisis and you have to stay with the guardian for 3+ hours to descalate. 
The amount of casenotes that one has to do every day is in sane and inconsiderate. Get ready to pull some all nighters like you’re still in college if you are even slightly behind on the notes. 
We have 15-17 cases and are expected to see each client at least twice a month. This means that it is hard to do your job properly when you have so many cases and are overwhelmed with the case note at the same time. 
The pay is terrible and they don’t do raises each year like a normal company would. The raises are only given by merit, which is unfair considering the amount of hours targeted case managers put in each day. If you have a masters degree they will give you a dollar more than those with a bachelors which is just a slap in the face because if you’re going to school for 6+ years you should at least be making a minimum of $20 an hour but Henderson wants to give you $16. 
Management doesn’t care about our concerns about having too many case notes to write so most case managers have to finesse the billing by overbilling. 
When you start a task and you think you’re done there’s a whole pile of work that you have to do. 

The bottom line is that Henderson is a good introductory social work job but you can’t pay your bills on it and it will consume your entire day. Only work here if you need a job really badly. 

What is the best part of working at the company?
Very manageable work I work in the forensics multidisciplinary game so I can only speak for that department. Work was manageable. Team is friendly management is very approachable works with staff.  Pay is somewhat competitive, but remember it is nonprofit, but the PTO is great.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The day is what you make of it if your day is stressful it’s usually because you’re not organized or you’re not actually doing your job as long as you’re organized and you do your work the day is not that stressful at all not for me anyway.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?

Work culture of the company is good. They appreciate good employees they appreciate good work.  Management team seems to care very much for their employees.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
They usually start out with the morning meeting to discuss any changes with clients, for the forensic multidisciplinary team three contacts weekly are required, but that’s amongst the entire team so it’s not three contacts per team member. Team consists of a medical provider, MSW, social worker therapist, Case manager, RN. The team is usually very collaborative getting things done. A typical case loaded is genuinely 15 or less clients per Case manager if your detailed and organized you can be done with most of your work by 4:30 every single day and not be stuck, taking work home.

My experience at HBH was a great one due to the location. I had the privilege of having a very understand manager and director along with the rest of the staff. The location I worked for was a family away from home for me. I looked forward to step into the office everyday. All of the staff was more than willing to assist me in any issue I had no matter what their role was. I felt comfortable enough to walk into any office available at the moment and ask about any concerns I may have had or just educate myself in the field. Unfortunately once upper management got transferred or left to grow their careers the location I worked at became an extremely miserable environment. The new director was very cold and not understanding even though they knew they worked in the mental healthcare field. Of course, with any drastic changes comes many new ways of running an office. I felt very rushed in meeting certain goals regarding our demographics and over worked to meet those goals. With the new director in office a clique was formed with the providers, director and new office manager. A sight I was never exposed to with the previous director and office manager. Everyone else in the office from therapist, front desk, nurses and case managers were not important to this director. HBH has so much potential to grow as a company and it is very sad to see how their workers are underpaid and most of the time undervalued. 

This is an okay stepping stone but not a place to develop a career. I got lucky to work in the department I was in and my coworkers made the job worth it. I also enjoyed the work I did because it had personal meaning to me, which made me want to work hard. I got good experience and would have liked to stay in my position, but it doesn’t seem that they value strong employees that will advocate for their clients. Management does not value its employees. They have had employees that were homeless and did nothing to help them. It’s strange that a healthcare organization wouldn’t have an AED in each building, when they can certainly afford it, so that shows their priorities. The turnaround of employees here is the worst I’ve ever seen. They consistently have at least 15 open positions at all times- you can even see multiple posts on Indeed right now. Research their financials on ProPublica; they get their information directly from the IRS; as a non-profit their financial information is public information. Seeing the huge pay gap between what executives vs regular employees make is a shame. Working here changed my perspective of non-profits for the worse unfortunately; a lot of non-profit executives make ridiculous money compared with most employees and I find it appalling.

Please don't work here except to get experience and move on.  There are some coworkers and supervisors who are helpful and supportive, but for the most part, this is a horrible organization to work for. See below:
1. Pay is terrible.  Even full time employees who have college or graduate degree level positions often make less than 35k per year.
2.  Raises and bonuses are not guaranteed every year, even when considering inflation or exceptional job performance.  Nevertheless, insurance benefits have gotten more expensive for employees each year, as far as I have seen.
3. This organization "offers" a lot of PTO, which you accrue more quickly the longer you have worked here. But it is not uncommon for scheduled PTO requests to be denied for no good reason.  This is a practice encouraged by executives.  "PTO is a privilege and not a right" is a common phrase recited to employees, passed down from the CEO himself.  Also, as of last year, 2 week vacations have been banned or strongly discouraged except under exceptional circumstances.  
4. During the COVID 19 pandemic, now more than ever, money and billable serves have been prioritized over clients and safety.  

In a typical day I deal with a lot of walk-in clients who have various computer issues that need to be resolved. I also get emails and phone calls dealing with computer related issues. Every month we have our new employee orientation that requires many new laptop and desktop computers to be imaged, profiled and deployed. I also configure and deploy VoIP equipment, multi-function printers/fax machines, as well as networking equipment. 
We have a good workplace culture that's based on honesty, trust and solid communication among all team members. Our manager is also a joy to work for because he always has our backs and our best interest at heart. 
I've learned a lot of different troubleshooting techniques and new procedures, since I started working here. 
The hardest part of the job is dealing with incoming issues, while we're preparing many computers for our monthly orientation classes. But it never gets too overwhelming. The most enjoyable part of my job is resolving client issues in a quick and efficient manner, and learning new things every day.

I worked for Henderson for seven and a half years and found it to be an employer who truly values its employees. There are ample opportunities to advance and the management team(s) are great to work with and they go out of their way to acknowledge hard work and success. Henderson also highly values diversity in its workforce. Henderson has over half a century of success helping those most in need and it is an agency that it feels good to work for because you know that everyday you are making a positive difference in the lives of others and your community.
The only drawbacks to Henderson are its locations in south Florida where the traffic and general population can be very rude and difficult to deal with. Additionally, the cost of living in south Florida is so high that it is difficult for a not-for-profit agency to offer wages that truly compensate.

You gain a lot of experience working with a wide range of clients and diagnosis. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Management, Pay, Productivity expectations and little to no support. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
You will love your coworkers, but you will hate your supervisor and the expectations they have for you and the pressure they put you under. The management will expect more and more work from you, they will change policy and protocols with no staff input, and they will always expect you put yourself second. You will try and stay for the clients but eventually you will see that company culture is to treat you like a tool and not a human being. Hopefully, by this point, you will have found a better employer. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Imagine doing your job, and 3 of your coworkers jobs, and still being told you don't do enough. It's hard to explain purgatory to someone who hasn't been there.

During my time there, I encountered numerous inconsistencies between what was promised and the actual work environment. New hires were told they’d receive clinical supervision, yet there were not enough qualified LCSWs available to fulfill that promise. Many staff members shared the same frustrations unmet expectations, lack of support, and unclear communication. Supervisors were often unqualified, with some holding only bachelor’s degrees while overseeing master's-level professionals. The salary structure is extremely poor, and turnover is high, often with individuals returning who couldn’t thrive elsewhere. Productivity demands are unrealistic, especially considering the travel involved. The organization frequently backpedals on commitments, shifting policies without warning. If you're seeking professional growth, this is likely not the place. Sadly, it appears more focused on appearances than delivering sustainable, ethical service.

I have always felt that my supervisor had my back. I came to this agency with a lot of experience and was valued completely. I was able to be totally myself, was encouraged to continue to grow professionally in every way, and when I ran into difficulty was supported and completely backed for the decisions that I made. The hours are sometimes long, and because agencies run mean and lean, had to be creative in order to provide quality services. I love this agency and would work here forever. This place is ethical and there is no pressure to cut corners. The challenge of becoming paperless has been less than optimal, but we all problem solve together and get everything done. One day the bugs will get ironed out and paperless will be the breeze it was meant to be.
