There are a lot of exceptional people that work here. There is some gossip but that is too be expected anywhere. Not all the managers inspire confidence but mine is outstanding. She wants you to succeed, is very encouraging and understanding of your individual needs. The pay is on the higher end of what you can make in this position but across the board CNAs do not get paid enough for the work we do. Due to this, we are chronically short staffed which increases the stress. Still the patient ratio is better than working in a nursing home. Management did very well providing staff with PPE throughout Covid and the shortages faced nation-wide. There is a generous tuition reimbursement program which many of us take advantage of. The burn-out in this job is a real struggle. A lot of the patients cause this so there is not much the hospital can do to combat the fatigue we experience. I have been assaulted numerous times by patients. It is frustrating that this is a part of our job. A high number of patients have a high sense of entitlement and act like they are in a hotel and not a hospital. Patients abuse the healthcare system and it has serious consequences for those who work in the profession. I find the abuse worse in the hospital than compared to say long-term care. So be prepared for that if you choose to work in a hospital. I do still really enjoy my job and I love working here. The pros outweigh the cons for me. Also I should add that management is extremely flexible when it comes to picking up shifts. 

What is the best part of working at the company?
I worked there for 10 years. The first 4-5 were pretty good. We had a great team and our management was respectful and showed thanks for the hard work we did. I enjoyed those years.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The last five years I was there the new CEO staffed new management. Everything changed. It was such a toxic work environment. We were treated very poorly and everyone was miserable do to poor leadership, and disrespect from higher ups.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Completely toxic. That is why they have been going through what they have. Almost bankrupt, the poor staffing choices of management were a large part of their demise.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
A typical day, towards the end of my decade working for them, was stressful and not healthy. It was purely toxic.

Enjoy working with all of my co-workers.  To complete discharges and admissions.  To invite all individuals to a Dual Diagnosis Group on my shift.  To meet with individuals in private sessions.  To maintain safety on the unit at all times.  To redirect individuals that may be escalating in unsafe behavior.  Assist individual in withdrawals of all substances.  Hardest part of the job is at times we are understaffed and the requirements of the job can be hard to meet at all times.  Love to work with individuals that are struggling in daily stresses.  Also to work with individuals that suffer from any of the mental health diagnosis that exist in todays world. Continue to learn new techniques and approaches with each individual.  Strengthen my observation skills.  Continue to learn to stay focused on what's more important at the time of the moment.  Increase the skill to multi-task.

I have worked here for about 2 years now and my office has gone through 5 managers now. Regardless of who is in management, they do not take the concerns or suggestions of employees seriously. This place has so many new employees because once people realize how much of a mess it is here, they quit. I have seen so many talented administrative and clinical staff burnout because they want to do a good job and support our patients, but get absolutely no support from management. We have also had many instances where management doesn’t do payroll correctly, and employees are being shorted hundreds of dollars. This has been brought up to upper management and HR, but they don’t seem to care too much. 
They are extremely understaffed, so regardless of what job you apply for they will have you doing 3 others on top of that. Unfortunately they take advantage of employees who try to do their best. 

I realized immediately after accepting the job, it was not what was presented to me at the interview. I was expected to be a project coordinator, as well as a unit housekeeper. The scheduling was never made clear to me until after I accepted the job, as well. Week to week my schedule was not the same. I was always wondering when my days off would be. I could expect my days off to never be in a row, unless it was the weekend I had off(every other). 
Management was unorganized, chaotic, and condescending toward staff members. I witnessed poor decision making, and unprofessional behavior. I felt I was not in a supportive environment to become a successful happy employee. I often felt my health, and well being were not cared for when I was asked to do tasks beyond the position at hand. Expectations were unreasonable. Low pay rate was insulting.

Registration of patients for labs, x-rays, surgical procedures, direct admissions and emergency room.  Switchboard operation. Worked directly with health insurance companies for billing and medical codes.

Learned new skills constantly, was given opportunity to utilize my own personal skills in process development and maintenance  

Fast paced environment working directly with public in community hospital.  Difficult to manage personal life around schedule changes. 

Co-workers worked together quite well especially helping to cover shifts for each other whenever possible.

Heywood Hospital is a small community Hospital, providing excellent care to the patients of the community.  Great environment and team approach. Taking time to walk a guest or visitor or even a patient to their destination was very important, whereas the CEO would rather us be late for a Monthly Meeting, and provided personalized care to every person in the building. The team culture was one of the best I have ever worked in. Each Department respected and worked as a team to provide the best delivery of care to each patient, with positive patient outcomes.

Prepare and compile records in the nursing unit. Perform multiple clerical and receptionist duties on the Nursing Unit. Answer telephone calls and relay messages to nursing staff, doctors, and patients. Obtain medical orders and process them in a precise manner. Input daily and stat labs, tests and respiratory and rehab services for each patient. Distribute and file data sheets, charge sheets, and other documentation. Establish transportation for patients leaving the unit. Assist with direct patient care as a certified nursing assistant. Help with nutrition, observation, documentation, transportation of patients on the unit.

A typical day at work can include many different responsibilities, ranging from drawing blood from patients in the outpatient draw room, to drawing blood from inpatients in the hospital, to processing specimens from outside offices, to answering phones, to assisting the ED in drawing patients, to filling supply orders for offices, to cleaning, to stocking. The most enjoyable part of my job is helping those in need whom truly appreciate it. The hardest part of my job is often times working in a very busy and stressful environment with minimal staffing. I have many things about working with the public and working in a hospital environment.
