I am not a desk person and looked for something that would be challenging out in the community.  This job is definitely challenging but it was also very fun. I bonded with my clients and learned how to work as part of a team. You will definitely need support of another staff or supervisor at some point.  It was a great experience over all and leaving the company and the clients I met was a very difficult decision to make.

I decided to post a review because I had to leave to start school.  I now have a part-time that is quite dull in comparison.  I noticed that some of the negative reviews were complaining about taking time off or about management.  I'll give you my perspective since they left before I did.  You know how in every job you get a lazy coworker?  Or one that feels entitled to take a day off just because they partied too much the night before? I'm assuming those were the poor reviews.  Bad staff don't last long in this kind of job because it puts the clients at risk and it leaves the rest of us picking up the slack.

If you enjoy working with people with disabilities, then this is the kind of job you will enjoy.  Hope my review helps.

I really enjoyed my time with High Roads. The job is tough it is NOT by any means easy. These are clients with dual diagnosis so you know in advanced what you are getting yourself into. Many of them have behavioral issues and will become physically aggressive or AWOL on you. The neighborhoods in which we would service the clients were sometimes sketchy but that is also just part of the job. Because I was working on a Masters Degree in Mental Health when I was working there it was definitely the right fit for me at the time. I enjoyed working with the Director. She's a tough woman- but she knows the industry and she knows her business. She takes everything that happens with High Roads personally because she is the owner. She is also all of the participants biggest advocate sometimes people forget that because she is so tough. I would say if you need the experience and you love working with clients with mental illness and like working outside this job would be for you. The compensation is low but it is also the standard in the industry if you research it. Use a different vehicle then the one you use for work if you can would be my only recommendation.

The management of this company is terrible. The client pairing is terrible. I feel bad for the job coaches that are new to the field and who get stuck with 3 clients that shouldn’t be in the same groups with extreme behaviors. No one in that office knows how to properly do their jobs. Its terrible. I won’t even get started on the owner. The only good thing i got from this company was some really good friends (job coaches). The clients were great too. Some job coaches dealt with some really tough clients some even had three really tough clients which isn’t fair at all. Also they say they will put you with clients close to home, yeah definitely isn’t true. They put you where they want and you drive wayyy out of your way to get your clients on occasions. For me it was like that all the time.

Some days are good some days are just horrible. The clients are hard to deal with. The manager was cool but they need do better. When getting clients to be in your company ensure your employees driving these clients will be safe! If they are getting clients that may threaten peoples lives… not good. Especially when you are sometimes having to have 3 clients. You are responsible to ensure their safety and your own. Literally the worst company I’ve ever worked for and the pay is minimum. 

I am a current employer at High Roads. I have been working with highroads for approximately 1 year and 4 months I must say I'm not planning to go anywhere anytime soon. Just like any other job, you have your good days and bad days, but the good days over come the bad. The pay is good for the amount of hours that we work. And I love that we have weekends off and paid holidays. The day goes by so fast and I still have time for my own personal life outside of over work.

Owner/Director does not care about her employees safety, violent clients or severe bad behaviors, employees are given 3 low functioning clients to work with including help with the bathroom and feeding. 
Owner/Director does not approve time off request most of the time.

Great company to work for, but pay is not negotiable. Mileage reimbursement is great for economy cars but not for gas guzzlers. Co workers are great to work with. Hardest part of the job is getting to know your clients.

I hated it. Got beat up by clients and management dog nothing. Want you to do paperwork at home not paid. Will not approve vacation days worst place ever

Patients in care of High Roads are high risk patients (known for bad behavior). Just be patient and respectful they’ll tend to do the same. Provide patients with alternatives to their behavior.

super unorganized. the boss likes to abuse her power. somehow everything you do is wrong. wouldn't recommend. from the top-down structure is all over the place. co-workers are cool but that's about it
