Overall this facility has a very small town hospital feel. It has a reputation for hiring New Grad RN's into just about all areas of practice, including CCU & ED.  Pay is adequate, shift differentials are nothing to brag about, neither are raises. Shift bonus's are frequently offered, especially for night shifts, and can range from $150-$250/shift.  If you are looking to make money, picking up nights/weekends can get pretty lucrative.  But overworking has lead to the majority of the burnout that I have observed. Most new nurses leave within 1-3 years, either for more money, better commute, or better work environment.  Management is decent, probably just as overworked as the general staff. Good leadership within the organization appears to be lacking, or perhaps it's just not fostered by the older style of upper management.  The majority of staff nurses that stay with the facility are very comfortable in their career trajectory, or do not wish to make the long commute to Nashville for a more progressive work environment. Average patient load for a floor nurse is 5-6, 7 on a rare occasion. For CCU, 2-3 patients. High turnover leads to consistent short staffing, again especially on nights. Overall, it has not been a terrible place to start.  While I will not burn my bridges, I do not see myself remaining with the company for more than 2 years at present.

I worked in the Materials Management department for almost 11 years. Healthcare has changed dramatically IMO. Understanding that I work for a for profit company it can sometimes feel like patient care is sacrificed to make budget and add to the bottom line. It's a business. Management has they're heart in the right place but a lot of times lack the support and resources to achieve sutible patient care. Staff at all levels is overworked, stressed, and at times taken advantage of. The best part of the environment is the family atmosphere. Each individual I worked with were more like family rather than coworkers. We always tried to boost each other up and lift those you saw were having a bad day. Overall it is a good place to hone your skills be it clinical or support staff. Mangers usually are there for support and have an open door policy for concerns or problems that may occur. Communication does need a lot of work and accountability differs from person to person. You couldn't find a better place with better people. The potential is there but a constant work in progress as with most of Healthcare. 

This entire organization is mismanaged. 

High turnover in almost every department with the security department being the worst. Favorites are played like silly schoolchildren do and on so many floors, so watch your back. 

Especially within security, and it keeps getting worse. But sure, if you want to call it fixing things by getting us shiny new badges, vests but no weapon, new uniforms in some other color for the hundredth time while taking away long sleeves and leaving us with short sleeves and no coats during the winter months and convince us it is progress, well, bless your little hearts. 

Rules, policies, and even laws are broken. Thing is, management is well aware of the problems, but if it mattered to them at all terrible situations would be addressed and resolved. Instead, this pathetic organization of lies, flooding, smoke, and mirrors is being believed for yet another year leaving you, patients, visitors, and staff in possibly dangerous situations.

I would not recommend this place for the career focused, law abiding professional.

Loved my job! I always received very good ratings! We secured multiple buildings on a regular basis. Interior/Exterior Patrols! Responded to incidents, such as falls, traffic accidents, thief's, break-ins, assisted police when needed, & provided full written reports! The hardest/most dangerous part of the job was assisting with combative patients & visitors! I most enjoyed attempting to bring a smile on people's faces, when they were going thru hardships, such as family sickness & deaths! I would NOT have retired except, for one very hard- to- get- along with Director! I never had that problem before. I have worked with numerous managers/directors thru the years with NO problems! This man retired shortly after I did! He was neither honest, nor trustworthy! Life is too, short to endure that type stress, so I chose to retire after 8+ years! It is my understanding that they now have a very nice, fair supervisor!

The best part of working for STRHS is working with the patients. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The most stressful part of the job is working with nurses who say "that's not my patient" or look down on certain types of patients. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Unfortunately, the culture and work environment depends on who is working with you on a particular shift. If you are working with people who are truly in it to help the patients and want to be there, then it makes a world of difference. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
I set up for the day by printing the census  and assigning rooms to nurses. Once the nurses have completed shift change reports, then I process any orders that need to be completed,  admissions, discharges, etc. I also answer nurse call lights, phone calls, and ensure that I locate whichever nurse the phone calls might be for. I get snacks, water, and other things patients may need based on their diets.

I have worked at this facility for 9 years and this is the worst I have seen it, ever. The management has delegated tasks to the nursing staff that take away time we don't have. We are followed around to make sure we are doing bedside report and the observer has a checklist to ensure we are getting each item checked off. If we do not do bedside report we must come in on our day off and observe 5 bedside reports as punishment!! This is like I am in grade school not a professional job! There is not enough staff to cover the shifts, therefore everyone is overworked. Your boss will come around once a shift at the end to pat you on the back for all your "hard work" then quickly leave. We are understaffed, unappreciated, and underpaid. I can not wait to be out of contract to leave this facility!!! It is all about our scores, but we cant raise our scores when we don't have enough staff to meet the patients needs in a timely manner.

PROS:  Friendly, helpful staff and coworkers make it a pleasure to go to work every day. Lovely and well-maintained campus, very good cafeteria, beautiful new building. Fantastic employee health program and initiatives.

CONS:  Difficult to oust terrible managers, very poor compensation compared to other local hospitals, very poor raises for FT employees; 1.5% per year regardless of performance review for at least the past two years. Workplace culture very judgmental of patients with substance abuse and/or mental health issues.

My biggest issue with this facility is the fact that I was laid off after I had returned to work from the birth of my first child . I had been back over a year and my son became extremely ill. My FMLA papers had been filled out and turned into management because my young son was going to need surgery out of state . I was laid off and told they never had a chance to turn the FMLA paperwork in to the appropriate people so therefore although it was my managers mistake I would still be laid off because we had too much staff yet that exact day that brought a brand new nurse in to take my position!!! I found it to be completely personal and to be a punishment that my child had become ill.  I had been a great employee for a long time and FMLA is a benefit in place for staff for a reason . I felt like because I had been on maternity leave the previous year to have my baby they used this as a punishment to take my job away !

Management doesn’t vest in their employees, they are only out for themselves and what will make them look good. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Unrealistic performance expectations all while not allowed the proper tools to accomplish those expectations. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
No word other than toxic so because a 30 character minimum is required, toxic, extremely toxic, insanely toxic, toxicity is ignored by upper management and allowed to continue unchecked regardless of lower managements denied request to address the toxicity, toxic, toxic, toxic!

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Incredibly stressful, leave there daily in tears!

I registered all hospital outpatients and registered emergency room patients as quickly as possible. I learned when you offer the hospital's discount I was able to collect co-pays and deductibles. My co-workers and I would often switch shifts so I learned as many aspects with-in the department as possible. I think the hardest part was being the PBX operator who answered a multi-line phone system included separate phones for doctors, ambulance service, and the code phone for when a patient codes. I did enjoy working with same day surgery to process paperwork for patients to have surgery. I enjoyed working in central scheduling making appointments for MRI, Ultrasounds, Cat Scans, Nuclear Medicine, and basic X-rays.
