The board of this business doesn't even have a mental health professional on it. Employees tried to talk to some of these top people, but concerns seem to mostly just get blown off. CEO will come and eat lunch and make small-talk, but he really doesn't seem to value anyone's input. This is likely why there is VERY HIGH TURNOVER. 

I received clients by appointment in my office each day, which I loved. Clients regularly told me they appreciated my help. The problem is that the longer I worked there, the more they started to want me to crunch down on my time with clients and fit in extra assessments. And many of these assessments were so mechanical. I would have to ask very invasive questions about suicide, and my clients  would get triggered. Then, we were supposed to schedule them for a therapist, but there was only one therapist on staff. They had an opening for a trauma therapist the whole time I was there, and the position was never filled.  I had many individuals waiting quite a while for therapy. They would end up trying to have therapy with me, but I had to mark dots on an assessment and rush to get the basics required to just help them other resources during much of that time. Furthermore, I'm not a certified therapist. However, my coworkers and I would often end up trying to balance everything and also fill this role some how. They frowned upon you regularly taking an hour with people. They preferred 15 minutes, probably because we had such ridiculous caseloads. (We are talking over 200-400 people. We actually counted on people no-showing to try to give us more chances to keep ourselves afloat. It can be done if you are able to shut off how you feel about rushing people through the gamut, and if you can mechanize yourself daily, even after talking to people constantly about serious trauma and issues. (The clients are often desperate for someone/anyone to really talk to, so if you show the slightest bit of caring, they will often open up about some very difficult experiences and emotions. If you can just "uh-huh" people and click click , type type, you can work this job. (But just know this actually goes against the ethical code of social work.)

Be careful with that interview. They don't tell you everything upfront. I was trying to be optimistic, and I was eager to get in the door to help, but I ended up feeling like I was drowning in paperwork. You basically become a glorified paper-pusher plus you are expected to also coordinate a lot of services. It's a real shame, because services are sorely needed in the area, and this org is all that this really available around here,

The role of a Service Coordinator is centered on strong organizational and time management skills, as you'll be responsible for managing a diverse caseload effectively. If not you will not make it past 2-3 weeks respectfully . The company offers a comprehensive training program lasting one to two months, allowing you to organize your caseload before engaging directly with clients. This structured onboarding process ensures you feel confident and prepared when reaching out to clients.

This position offers an invaluable learning experience, particularly in relation to programs like HCS and TxHome Living, as well as other local initiatives. You will have the opportunity to facilitate care plans, conduct PAS, HAB assessments, and ICP, among other responsibilities. Engaging with guardians, service providers, clients, and their families is a key aspect of the job, and the families I worked with were genuinely wonderful. The company also provides essential tools for your role, including a work car, cell phone, and laptop.

It's important to establish personal boundaries in this position. Don't hesitate to take mental health days when needed. The job offers weekends off, mental health days, and holiday pay, which contributes to overall well-being.

In terms of compensation, when I was employed, the pay started at $15.05 and increased to $20.04 after a raise. Bonuses are available, though they depend on funding. Overall, this role is a great opportunity for anyone looking to grow in the field while contributing to meaningful work in the community.

What is the best part of working at the company?
My contract was through hill country but when that ended they absorbed us. I enjoyed working with them up until that point.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Favoritism, cliquey behavior, lack of communication, lack of training, inability to get in touch with supervisor and supervisor, supervisors unwillingness to train staff appropriately, and they don’t take health conditions seriously and give you the run around and mislead you on policies.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
It was very cliquey and they don’t appreciate good quality work ethic, the prioritize the people they “ get along with”. They don’t take health conditions seriously and would rather run you off than create adequate accommodations, despite policy and the population they serve. Also not client focused as they claim. Our office was thrown together and you could see and feel the lack of effort to make it look like an office. I made phone calls all day asking people for their PHI to an open office with clients/ coworkers walking in so everyone could hear. No locks on desks so paper copies are easily accessible and not everyone had a cubicle or filing cabinet (I didn’t made them aware of this and nothing was done besides turning my desk around so that my computer screen faced the wall instead of the open floor after a 2 months).

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Nonstop work to reach deadlines with out proper guidance, training, over sight from supervisor. I was stressed morally and mentally.

I dreamed of retiring when I started with this company. I soon learned that the higher ups don't care about their employees, which is sad considering they are in the field of showing care, compassion,  and empathy for those they serve. The training is not suitable to succeed, upper management support is nonexistent, expectations are unrealistic, and the pay is subpar for the amount of work expected. If you decide to leave the company to pursue something better, they never acknowledge what you did do for the company and treat you like an outcast until you are gone. When you attempt to address concerns with HR, all you get are excuses and justifications for the things that are happening instead of support and acknowledgement. If you decide to leave or experience a crisis while employed,  they do everything they can to screw you out of time off you've earned. I put in my notice, ended up in a mental health crisis before my last day and was hospitalized. Instead of attempting to contact my emergency contact to find out why I didn't show up to work, they declared me a no call/no show so they could get out of paying me my sick time or the already scheduled and approved time off. If you value your mental health and family life, I suggest you look elsewhere for employment. 

The most enjoyable part of the job is helping people see their potential and start to believe in their selves. 
The hardest part is the large caseload and the micromanagement with little to no training. The online training is not really very helpful. It was much better when we had in person training/orientation. 
A typical productive day at work is having back-to-back appointments on your calendar and making sure you call and reschedule any missed appointments and replace that missed appointment with another appointment as soon as possible. 
My first director was absolutely amazing,  she taught me to get out into the community and find my people.  Do home visits instead of office visits if that makes it easier for the client, so I did and that works. 
Workplace culture is different and unique with each clinic. Most celebrate birthdays, babies, favorite holidays and  there are appreciation days for admission and admin assistants.

Travel to home visits, schools and within the community to provide skills training and psycho social rehabilitation for individuals; complete assessments and Person Centered Recovery Plans as needed; travel to crises and complete assessments and emergency detentions within 2 counties as needed when on call. Complete PASRR Evaluations as needed.
I have learned more about the mental health field and diagnoses than I knew when I first started 3 years ago.
My supervisor has helped me to grow by challenging me to move out of my comfort zone which has helped me grow both personally and professionally.
The hardest part of the job is taking time away to spend with my family, as I love helping people.
The most enjoyable is that the administration cares about the employees. Birthdays, weddings and babies are all celebrated. We have quarterly celebrations for birthdays and other celebrations as they arise. It feels like a family environment.

I have worked at YCRC for a little over a year, and I'm very lucky to have found this job after graduating from college. I earned my degree in psychology, and I believe this position gave me the experience that is essential for anyone in this field or others that are similar. You have plenty of opportunities to grow professionally through observing youth in crisis, learning how to prevent a crisis, and safety planning. You find yourself growing in a personal way too as you grow resilient through the stories you hear and how you respond. You learn a lot about yourself. My training experience was great, and our director was incredibly helpful and understanding. She was available to answer calls when needed on shift and understanding when you needed time off. Staff is usually great about covering shifts or switching when needed, which is great too.

I really like the changes that have been made in the past 5 years toward an healthier working environment and culture.  I have learned more in my first year working there than in all of graduate school.  Hill Country MHDD was able to support my professional development in too many ways to list and I am very thankful for that along with some excellent supervisor's and upper management. 

However, low and unchanging salaries has been a longstanding issue.  There is no room for advancement in some positions - someone with 5 years experience gets payed the same as a new hire.  This leads to good employees becoming jaded, just shooting for minimum effort, or outright leaving resulting in turnover costs.  "Stepping over dimes to pick up pennies."

I've been with my clinic for 2 years as support staff and have thoroughly enjoyed working with my coworkers and the consumers who are seeking to better themselves and take care of their mental health. I find the tasks to be simple to take on. It's beneficial to continue to ask questions and do research on the company to properly advise consumers what type of clinic an LMHA is. It is very challenging trying to treat an entire community in a county when you're limited on providers/ short staffed. Management will add more on your plate when other positions aren't filled, and the turn over rate is felt on staff. There has been no increase in pay for support staff and no opportunity to move up unless you have a degree. As the community grows, so does the work- but getting to see individuals grow and thrive from services is very rewarding

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
I pick the clients at the center and drive them to their home.  Get everyone settle, prepare dinner.  Serve dinner, wash dishes, administer evening meds, getting everyone ready for bed, get everyone down for the night.  Supervise everyone throughout the night, get everyone up for the day.  Showers, dressing, administer AM meds, prepare breakfast and drop them off at the center.
