There are a LOT of directors and VP's, compared to the amount of staff doing the work. The joke is you have to be a "working" director when you come on, as there is so much to do. Leadership does not like staff feedback, they say they do, but don't listen to you when you speak up. Consistently worked full days and then logged in at night/weekends to finish. That was the norm for everyone, you had real time convo's with ppl at random hours. Reward for your hard work? A $50 gift card at the end of the year and monitoring via skype messenger (don't you dare go to the bathroom!). CEO does not like people working from home, so that will be on the chopping block next. There is no holiday party. The only fun to be had is if you plan it. As in everything, you are responsible for your own joy :)

Advancement is possible if you know how to work the room. Take ownership of one project, make sure its too confusing to understand operations or financials (smoke screen), compliment the right people and then you are the next VP of a whole new department. MEETING MANIA. 5 year plan is atrocious, the architects inept and either in over their heads or driven by ego. Those that aren't used car salesmen are either too tired to fight or were smart enough to leave. The leadership is terribly short sighted and emotionally charged. Which is terrible for the few good managers left. They function more like the company's janitors trying to clean up the mess in order for staff to function. 

100% job security (unless you're in IT), but they will milk you dry. Your time is theirs, not your own. IT under constant 're-org', CTO looking to outsource the majority. Most of the IT floor is contractors and difficult to develop consistency. Workforce is very sick, which impacts your wallet since this increases $$ you have to contribute from your check and emotionally sucks. We used to be a family there, and it's hard to see your family members die off. More people diagnosed with cancer in one building than they have in an entire GLOBAL company. There are no amazing perks. We'd get reprimanded for ordering sandwich trays for a LUNCH MEETING (which there were a lot of). They do have wellness onsite but you get the side-eye if you participate, as no one truly has time for that! The best thing about it used to be the people, and all the really good ones are gone now or about to leave. The CS floor runs like a sweatshop, the medical management floor uses food to cope through the chaos. It is a very unhealthy environment where those that succeed are the ones who know how to manipulate the system.

You will be spending a lot of time on-site, the people around you are exhausted, frustrated or leaving. But you will gain a lot of experience and exposure to different projects (which means "short staffed"-you have to pick up the slack). If you can go in and come out with your health and life as you started, then you will have accomplished more than 87 (out of 506) people did in 2018. Tight finance management plan means it will be all hands on deck with the minimum amount of $ investment/incentive humanly possible.

Like many workplaces, there are moments when projects overlap and things get busy. However, it’s handled well because the team is kind, helpful, and always ready to jump in. The supportive environment really balances out the occasional stress.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
The work environment at Hill Physicians is truly something special. Our new office in San Ramon is modern, bright, and thoughtfully designed, with plenty of nearby amenities that make the workday even more convenient. But what really defines the culture here is the people. We often say that “people make Hill Physicians,” and after many years with the company, I’ve seen that proven time and time again. Colleagues are supportive, kind, and genuinely committed to helping one another succeed. It’s a place where you feel valued, respected, and proud to be part of the team.

Hill Physicians is struggling with employee retention. I appreciate weeding out people not pulling their weight. But they will overwork their high performers with more work, without more money/title change etc. The annual raises are incredibly  small no matter how well you do. People have to turn in a resignation in order for HPMG to suddenly find the money to pay you what you should have been paid in the first place. There are a lot of exciting things happening at Hill but it’s frustrating knowing leadership is taking in huge bonuses and salaries, money being spent on constant IT implementations but the people doing the valuable work are minimally recognized. There are so many people promoted to managers that are NOT leaders. It’s frustrating to watch people who are not qualified get promotions while others who are subject matter experts get overlooked for promotion or bumps in pay. 
The company is also starting to force minimum of one day back in the office which so far isn’t doing anything for collaboration. It seems more of a power play. 

The best part of working at HPMG is the culture and strong focus on internal growth. I really appreciate how the organization prioritizes promoting from within and supports employee development. I had the opportunity to assist with internal transfers, and I was impressed by the emphasis placed on giving existing employees opportunities to grow within the company.

HPMG has a very collaborative and supportive work environment. The culture encourages teamwork, open communication, and continuous growth. Employees are valued, and there is a genuine focus on development and internal mobility, which creates a positive and engaging workplace.

A typical day consisted of low moral and micro managed by the Compliance Officer.
I learned to not trust someone who tries to groom you and then does not invest in the knowledge and resources required for the role/position.
Most management was great; however my direct manger I had to report to was vile.
The hardest part of the job was trying to fix a mess of years of poor work flow, low moral, less than poor resources, and a manager with a closed door policy. The executives above would turn a blind eye and fire other team members before making the management accountable. High turnover rate.
the workplace and culture mission is great; but it would require the leaders to live and be integral with it.
The most enjoyable part of the job was learning what I could on my own, research, the team was also willing to engage for change and to learn. Unfortunately the Corrective Action plans were years backlogged from poor management.

It is hard to come from outside and work at this place as most of the people are from 10-15 years and acceptability for new person is low. The company is struggling with finance and due to low membership every health plan matters. (they sometimes give one movie ticket as Christmas gift). They do not overspend on any thing but it is highly unstructured. Job duties are not well defined. The people who work here for long time have absolutely no aspirations and company kind of encourages that.

And, most importantly, the company is absolutely fanatic about the 90 day evaluation. For new people who intend to join this company must be mindful of this clause in the offer letter as this is serious clause. They terminate the employment for some reasons which some may not find justifiable (e.g. No one liked you in your 90 days)

The negative reviews are true! Beyond poor training, you are on your own, no one to ask, no one to turn too. Very high expectations, they move you around in different areas/ specialties without adequate training or help and expects you to figure it out on your own and reach your daily quota, then move you again. The Denial Nurse is a pain as well, she wants you to basically do everything for her and knit picks everything.  If you are a nurse, you have so many other better options. This is more of a factory type of setting, little use for your clinical knowledge but more of trafficking patients around to different doctors/facilities. Chaotic and disorganized, severely understaffed due to high turnover. No one wants to work here hence they are using staffing and planning overseas recruitment.

A day at work involved coordinating medical care for HMO members of Hill Physicians. The patient population included catastrophic, oncology and transplant. During my first tenure at Hill we also did authorizations. During my second tenure, we did not do authorizations.

Loved creatively problem solving a complex coordination of care need.  The hardest part of the job was being unable to get the member's needs met due to limitations on their benefit coverage.

The culture was collegial.  The co-workers bolstered each other and moral was high. 

Everything being mentioned about inadequate pay for high performers, some SMEs performing better than some management, completely unqualified people in management roles, poor PTO accrual is very much true. There is nowhere to voice the concerns, but if you do, be careful because the nepotism here is real. There is also very poor accountability placed on employees who have been here for so long. As a newer employee trying to find answers, be ready for crickets silence when people do not know the answers with an unwillingness to help find answers. If you do start working here, do not go above and beyond. Nobody in any leadership position will notice.

Sit down at your cubicle and sign on to your computer, bring up your work list and check e-mails and start to work on authorizations needing to be done 1st as all are time sensitive. Also, check on any urgent request needing review. Always, request may have something you are unaware of or have not heard of before. Must always use internet to investigate what you may not know about a certain condition or disease. Management is wonderful and co-workers are all team oriented. The hardest part of the job is calling doctor offices that may be very busy and require you to wait until they can get to you. The job always seems to go fast.
