I enjoyed working at Hillcrest Convalescent Center. I loved the ability to interact with nurses and nurse aides outside of the department and assist them when they needed a hand. I enjoyed serving the elderly and taking to to talk to them whenever I had a chance. I tried to help make all their meal experiences satisfactory as they would tell me their likes and dislikes to report. Some of my coworkers were friendly others were not so. I had a helpful manager and two awesome supervisors. The hardest part of the job was the full time hours. They rotated and it was quite hard to adapt as far as rest was considered. Another hard part was working with some coworkers who were lazy and didn't believe in teamwork so some days, well most days was "every man for himself." The most enjoyable part of my job was our monthly functions. Huge parties were given for the residents ALMOST every month. Even though some of the functions carried a heavy load on the dietary department, it was worth the smiles and enjoyment of the residents. That warmed my heart. I had a great experience working for Hillcrest convalescent Center.

Every job has its ups and downs, however when there are more downs, you do not want to be there. From lazy employees, constantly being short staffed, work place bullying with nothing being done about it, to awful family members mistreating staff. There is a difference between someone grieving and having no filter and someone who is cursing at staff, lying about things that happened, and even after reporting multiple incidents, the company said "We don't want to be sued, so just work with them." I was not allowed to move off of that hall and was not allowed to refuse that residents room. When a new admission came in, if the supervisor knew the patient or family was easily angered, rude, abusive, or flat out hatful, they were automatically admitted to my floor if their was an open room. Now after saying all of that, I absolutely adored most of my residents and their families and most of the staff, but it takes one bad apple to ruin the bunch. My issue with Hillcrest was when there was a big problem, nothing was done except just enough to try to cover it up.

I recently started employment with HIllcrest and unlike so many positions in the past, what you see is what you get. When you walk in the door at Hillcrest, you can notice that it isn't like other facilities. Attention to detail is obvious, from the fresh, clean, bright atmosphere, to the smiling staff, it has a very happy vibe.
Administration is very hands on and truly have an open door policy. The staff is friendly, hardworking, and attentive. Attendance and accountability are held in high regards so for an employee like me who takes their job seriously, it is refreshing that the employees around me do the same. There is opportunity for advancement in all positions and many have been with the company for years having worked their way up over time.

showing up to work everyday and making sure we stay busy and fast paste and have everyone cooperating, meeting the elders and shaking hands and greeting new people at the company i believe was the best part

I don't think anything was stressful when i worked there , i made sure i  was busy doing something and cooperating

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
it is very productive and fast paste so make sure you are cooperating with the team and staying busy

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
It is awesome working at Hillcrest Convalesce Center the best job ever

Management not supportive of education to allow growth of employees. Called to come in frequently on days scheduled off and almost always understaffed in typical work days. Management demeaning at times with counseling in public areas open to not only staff but visitors and patients as well. The only thing I enjoyed was taking care of my patients. Facility offered cooked meals from the kitchen for all staff to keep staff in building during work hours and would often call staff from lunch breaks to return to floor for any reason.

I enjoy working at Hillcrest each and every day I work. My residents look forward to my arrival and I have the greatest co-workers and my nurse is awesome and helpful. Hillcrest has taught me how to manage time with each resident every day so that no one is neglected in any way. wonderful residents, co-workers and great Nurses make the facility a joy to come to every day and perform my job to the up most and beyond . I leave work feeling appreciated and loved and always look forward to the next day to brighten someone's day. I strive for the best at Hillcrest Convalescent Center of Durham

The job is only what you make it. If you don't like it, it's not the company it's you. Your working ethics generally determines your outcome. If you don't like the outcome review you. No company will be everything you'd like it to be. If you come in and do your part, you will feel accomplished knowing you did your best.
CNA - work together
Nurses - stop being so "I'm above them" you get better aids.
Rehab - loss the attitude patients heal quicker with positive energy around them
Administration - listen with hearing, not defensive
If you really want to see a company working well BE WHAT YOU WANT TO SEE!


To continue with my review: Another pro is that I love the people that I take care of, and I get along with my co-workers the cons are no matter what a residents and the residents family says about you, you are wrong. You don't get asked what happened and the residents and the families can treat you and talk to you any kind of way and you can report it and nothing gets done about it. I would rate this a 3 star company.

Hillcrest is a great place to work considering the patients, but when it comes to management I was not happy at all. They show favoritism towards some workers. Certified Nurses Assistants and Nurses are not treated fairly. When there is a problem reported it goes unnoticed, and accepted by management. They solve issues by moving the aide to a different floor, but most of the time nothing is done at all. Patients aren't treated fairly, and are lots of times verbally abused.

The CNA has no rights. The patients may have dementia, but the CNA can get lied on and believed by staff members. Always have a witness of any problems because it's like being in court. Also the long term caregivers have no use for newcomers except to walk on. Management are there for themselves only.
