What is the best part of working at the company?
I worked in the psychiatric unit. Only the floor staff was good . UPPER MANAGEMENT DOES NOT CARE ABOUT ITS WORKERS. I was 1 on 1 with some who was supposed to be 3 on 1 and had just given a security guard a concussion. I got punched in the head lost hearing and upper management said “it’s not our fault”

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Feeling no support from management and worrying/getting getting physically hurt daily, I have scars all along my arms from violent pts. Upper management said “it’s part of the job”. HMC does not care about ancillary staff or their safety

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Hostile and dangerous , all you have is your floor staff (6 people on a 20 person unit w violent pts). I didn’t know who my director was for the first 7 months because HE never came to the unit

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Stressful and frustrating due to lack of support in all areas, you’re expected to do much more than what the job description entailed. DONT LET THEM FOOL YOU! They fooled me

Extremely toxic place to work especially when the new management took over. It’s a free for all where employees and management gossip instead of focusing on building positive work relationships. You’re often over worked, under paid with short lunches. There is little to no communication among managers and staff which would often lead to confusion as to when deadlines need to be met. No clear objectives for what employee responsibilities are and often there was work peddled among co workers to each other with no direction from management.  When meetings were held there was no follow through to any of the things that were discussed. Difficult to reach staff, managers and HR via email or by phone and would often get the run around.  There was also micro managing from senior staff with a “get it done” attitude which often jeopardized policies and procedures that were put in place to protect the hospital and its staff. Sadly there are great employees who are lost in the shuffle because this place is rotten from the top.

This hospital has so much potential. Employees for the most part were great. Senior leadership does not practice what they preach. I had little to no orientation and was expected to know all the ins and outs of my job. I had no support from my manager. The motto at this hospital is do as I say, not as I do. Leadership favors certain employees and has lunch daily with a select few during which they gossip about everyone else not present. Bad behavior such as violating patient privacy is rewarded by offering an incentive raise to stay so that that employee won’t take another job. 
Human Resources also was not supportive and extremely unprofessional. Again, they accuse employees of poor conduct when they themselves show no example. The HR rep I had informed me that my manager asked for a raise when she had returned from a leave. Not quite sure why I was privy to that information. Just makes you wonder what else is being discussed that should remain confidential.... 
The department I worked in had 17 bosses in a matter of 18 years. That speaks volumes when there is no longevity in leadership.

This hospital has so much potential to be great but they don’t give their staff the respect they deserve. Patient to staff ratios are always ridiculous. There are huge influxes of psych/overdose/verbal and physically abusive patients with lazy security response times. After working years in a pandemic, nurses are making bonuses/getting raises/higher shift differentials while aides and techs who do 90% of the physical work have received NOTHING. Loyalty to the organization means nothing, you could work here for years and no one would care to think you might deserve a raise. Zero incentive to stay that’s why the turnover rate is insane. We train people just to watch them walk out in a few months-year. Whatever department you’re hired for you will probably barely work on because everyone is floated constantly to other areas despite if you feel comfortable doing so or not. Management picks favorites, and only offers flexibility to certain individuals. You will get barraged with texts on your days off being asked to come in, again with zero incentive or bonus. 

This company has all the makings to be an absolutely great place to work. Depending on your position you have lots of paid vacations, holidays, and personal time to use (I get a little over 4 weeks worth of vacation time per year), the benefits are highly competitive and cheap compared to other places, and most pay rates aren't terrible.

Unfortunately this company has management that abuses their staff with workload and do not help them come to any solutions. Many departments suffer from understaffing. Mine in particular are shorted several FTE's but we are expected to keep producing a workload well above what we're able to. Remember all that paid time off? Can barely take any of it through the year with how short staffed the department can get.

HR also does not support the proper employees. They protect all employees, including the terrible ones that should have been sent out or fired long ago. They also usually cater to those who whine the loudest. The road to h*** is paved with good intentions.

I was working at holyoke (I resigned) as a nurse. I worked in a location with poor management.  The management was disrespectful to staff and patients noticed. There were sever issues with the coordinator and with the manager. The manager was inappropriate with staff and when it was reported to HR They we’re very unsupportive. I work as a nurse in the same type of speciality and make far more in a way more supportive environment! Do yourself a favor don’t apply. I love my coworkers and love my job I don’t think anyone should deal with the poor management/human resource department/awful salary. I loved the patients and miss the community we served but the area I was working is lacking and the patients are the ones suffering. I tried to throw out ideas and the coordinator (that had no idea what she was doing) always needed to be right. Definitely costed the program. I feel bad since patients are the ones that didn’t get the experience they deserve. 

I did not last at this facility long and ran back to my previous job. Management was condescending and disrespectful. Supervisors have almost no idea what they are doing half the time it's as they forget what it is like to work the floor. Lacking many official protocols and when brought to management they don't care. They pretend to care, but nothing changes. It's all talk. Everyone is burnt out. Compensation is awful. They have this floor called overflow in the ED that is insanely unsafe. It's like a basement ED with one nurse and one CNA. Rarely someone checks on your when you're sent there for the night. Just a really unsupportive environment with rude and disrespectful leaders. I would never work here again even if it was the last employer left in healthcare. They completely lied during the interview process about the work culture and care they have for their employees as well as patient ratios. I had 6-7 patients every night. DO NOT APPLY HERE. 

I loved my job. My manager was horrible, mean and arrogant.She didn't have any educational background and somehow was office manager. Retaliates against her employees if they call out sick.Questions  everything you do or say.If phone rang and she was next to it , she didnt think she had to pick it up.Always had something negative to say about patients on Masshealth.When I was ready to move to a different department she gave me an illegal warning , writing me up while I was on an FMLA for my son who was having surgery.Why? Because she knew I couldn't transfer with a warning for a year.I was a great worker , doctors loved me , staff loved me, patients loved me.Something is seriously wrong with her and with Holyoke Medical Center for allowing people like her to manage an office.Three doctors and 4 employees left,mainly because of her.I say look into it.

Management is creating a work environment that is hostile and overwhelming. They encourage clicky behavior and definitely have favorites. The workload is overwhelming for both new nurses and CNAs. Management lies and tells you the patient-nursing staff ratio is safe and even lies about it.  As a new nurse, you will be expected to take seven patients; an aide can sometimes have the whole unit. If you became a nurse and thought you would just be overseeing the medication, forget it; you will be toileting, changing, and repositioning your whole assignment, and maybe you will find an aide without an attitude to help you if they aren't hiding somewhere. 

HMC was a patient orientated hospital and was in the process of implementing and restructuring as they are under the supervision of a new CEO.  Due to the restructuring, there was alot of negative comments from employees.  Due to restructuring, my position went down to a part time position from a full time position.

The employees there will do fine if they can remain positive and adopt to the many chances that the hospital is going through with new leadership.  Many of the employees have been there over 20 years and it has been difficult for them. People tend to dislike things they don't understand.  But if they would be patient and work as a team it will work out in the end.
