My typical day is interaction with people from all different walks of life from residents, their family, our staff, a variety of doctors, to strangers in the waiting room. I love it. I believe in this past year I have grown in many ways as a person, in my confidence, communication, to my ability to work with others, learning from them as well as teaching. I’m discovering bits and pieces of myself as a person outside of work not just a health care worker. Management is a big part of being successful in healthcare work and our management is a delight. They care and understand we are humans not just replaceable people on an assignment. You can go to them with personal struggles or work related they move accordingly and  help where they can. My favorite part of the job is making something easier or less of a struggle for the residents I work with. It makes me feel good when I put a smile on their face, gain their trust or help them feel comfortable and not like they are a burden to people.  The Home of Good Shepherd is different from other facilities I’ve worked at because they have standards. As it’s a facility, it is greatly acknowledged as THE RESIDENTS HOMES. Which I feel most elderly homes forget this. The residents are not just an occupied room and the workers are not just a body.  As it would be any where you work or in life, the energy you put out, is the energy you get back.

I should have left from my first week, everything i was told at the interview was not true. From the amount of time for orientation to the amount of staffing. I was pulled from orientation because of short staffing and short staffing was the norm(the reason i left my previous job). They constantly allowed restricted(light duty) aids to work(even double shifts),meaning i had to do double the work.A manager quit, they brought a temporary one that created more of a mess trying to get the place to state standards.No consistency from shift to shift as well as staff to staff.I love taking care of people ,but it is so hard to work in this type of environment , its physically hard ,emotionally draining and bad management makes it very, very, very stressful.I do miss the residents and i tried very hard not to let the job conditions interfere in my care for them.People pay a lot of money to live here and the hands on caretakers don't get a lot of that. We the care takers deserve better from management. We are the ones that work hard at keeping the residents clean ,happy and active.

Well everyday I had a different job there. The most enjoyable job there for me was the Resident Aide position. My typical night would start with me getting the dining room ready for breakfast in the morning. I would clean all the tables and the floor and then set the tables. I guess that would be my least favorite part of the job because I didn't get to interact with the residents. Then I would help the late nighters toilet and get ready for bed. Then I would start waking residents to toilet them and change their linen. While residents were sleeping I would take care of their laundry. In the morning is when I would go through and wake every resident and shower and dress them. I learned that at every walk of life people need help. I believe the last step of life is just as important as the first so its important to have people that actually love the residents to help take care of them. The hardest part of the job is when they pass away. The hardest thing I've had to do was quit that job because I felt like I was quitting on my residents.

A toxic work environment that does NOT care about the wellbeing of its employees, there is a huge lack of communication within higher ups and people in charge of this facility. Home of the Good Shepherd is dominated by practices, policies and management styles that perpetuate unhealthy habits and conflicts among team members. It is very harmful to its current employees, by preventing them from being productive and growing professionally. 
- There is a lot of gossip within the HHA/RAs, and even gossip coming from management, which struck me by surprise.
-They work you to the bone for bread crumbs. 
-Little to no hiring from within, very little opportunity to grow or expand. It also seems like management favors certain people over others, disregarding the quality of ones work.    
-High rates of employees missing work or quitting, leaving the work environment dangerously understaffed  with burned out aids taking care of the elderly. 

What is the best part of working at the company?
The unapproachable one has her favorites and she let them wear whatever they want hoodies sunglasses pants instead of scrubs and she let them get away with murder really and I spoke up and I got let go for it so less is speak up no matter what don’t let people walk all over you

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Working with the 
Manager, that’s there now I won’t add any names. I don’t think that would be proper.

They expect you to do everything

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
it was 645 until three. We get people up get them dressed get them washed. Make sure everybody comes to breakfast after breakfast. We all do our showers after showers. It’s time for lunch after lunch. We get them ready for any activities or any outings, they may be going 
The residence were kind and respectful

Turnover rate was horrible, five administrators in 4 years and several nurses and aides were relieved of their jobs for reasons unclear. The job itself was rewarding, satisfying and at the end-of-the-day you felt good going home knowing your residents appreciated everything you had done for them. Due to the treatment from management many call-offs occurred and the shortage of aides was constant, as well as nurse shortages that left one nurse to oversee the care of 32 patients and sometimes more if a nurse on another unit called off. Pay did not reflect the amount of work nurses and aides did.

I love my job in the Activities. As a per diem employee, I don't feel left out by f/t staff. Saturday & Sunday morning start out with individual visits with my residents. I will bring the Activity cart with me. I carry books,magazines, and a few tactile aids to share with the nonverbal residents. BINGO is a favorite activity to many of the residents.  We sometimes have musical groups come. We have a group of cloggers who are senior citizens! We We play card games, scrabble, dominos & puzzles.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The bosses and administrators.
Rules change constantly.
The bosses and administrators never stood up for the employees,
And the staff was always short staffed due to a very high turn over rate

Very toxic.
Very click like.
A lot of favoritism happening

The shift reports would always be a disaster as they were always short staffed.
You would be expected to do many jobs alone when there should be support.
The bosses would complain constantly but never offer support or show appreciation.

I have been with this company for about 1 1/2 years. In general healthcare has become extremely difficult to work in; let alone the major nursing shortage everyone company is dealing with. However, that being said, Home of The Good Shepard is a great company to work for! All the facilities have their own personality (so to say); the homes are extremely well kept, and the residents truly get phenomenal care - the entire staff go out of their way to help! It's nice to go into work for the day, knowing you are making a difference for the residents, building rapports with family/providers and knowing you have the support of management. Again, truly a great company to work for!

I once enjoyed working here, but the management style has made it a very difficult environment. Leadership is often inconsistent and communication can feel misleading, which creates a lack of trust. Attendance policies are applied harshly, and even legitimate absences may result in write-ups. There is a noticeable clique culture, and employees who don’t align with it may feel singled out. Unfortunately, the most challenging part of the job is not the work itself, but navigating the workplace atmosphere. While some reviews appear positive, my experience has been that treatment of staff is not supportive or fair.
Also all the good reviews they have paid new or curemployees write and say good things.
