The hardest part of the job is having to give clients the time they deserve/need while having to complete your paperwork within 24 hours; you do have to complete some of it at home without being compensated. Many clinicians in day treatment have had to bill more than 6 clients in a day and many case managers continue to have clients added to their overwhelming caseloads.  

I'd say the best part of this job is seeing the progress that your clients make in their treatment. Working with the clients was stressful at times but could be rewarding. Most of the staff I worked with were awesome yet you do come in contact with rude and lazy staff at times.

Management is probably the worst part of this job. Since getting a new CEO there has been a lack of regard for the quality of care for the clients and billing is reiterated so many times- lets see how much money we can make while only providing the bare minimal of services. Its not fair to clinicians and its really not fair to the clients who deserve so much more!
Management can be rude and vindictive at times. Management does not listen to concerns and only provide quick fixes for big problems. People bring up the same concerns to management and nothing changes.  

Horizon treats people like they can be replaced but it seems as if they are now realizing its not so easy to replace good, hard working clinicians. This company really isnt worth working for anymore... I would rather make a little less to work for a company that values the care of the clients and how they treat staff.

Horizon is driven by ego and profit margins, with no management ethics or accountability. The agency culture is deeply conflicted, punitive, and unstable.

There is massive employee turnover. Sadly, dedicated staff are leaving in hordes: either voluntarily- due to the poor management, agency failures to follow thru with promised benefits,  internal strife, or by being callously terminated by vindictive managers. Staff is regularly bullied, demoted, denied pay increases and/or professional development. Any issues or dissent is handled with an iron fist. 

As a highly skilled and educated professional with more than 25 years in my field, I am aghast by Horizon's culture. "Better Together," the new slogan, is really just a Public Relations ploy.

Staff are stressed, suspicious, overworked, and burned out. Clients and families receive the end results, with inferior care and lots of mistakes, which are covered up due to liability.

Don't invest your career or trust in this company. There are reasons why there are always so many jobs available, and it isn't growth related.

Reading all these reviews makes me sad but also helps me to feel that I was not alone in how I felt working for Horizon.  It's been 8 months since I quit but still feel like I could be retaliated against for even writing this review.  I worked for Horizon for 6 years and absolutely loved working with my clients, I still miss them. I started, endured, and ended with horrendous management.  I was bullied and manipulated.  My supervisors (I went through many) were ALL vindictive and intentionally caused conflict between their lower staff.  I wish I would have left sooner but didnt feel right leaving my clients who need caring, stable people in their lives.   The atmosphere is toxic, so much negativity from management.  I can not believe that Horizon can legally get away with some of the things they pull.  They are focused on billing and not clients or employee concerns.  Do not put yourself through the traumatic experience of working for this company.  You will not be heard or valued.  Things will not change even if you speak up.  You do not have a voice here.  I still have friends that work there and want to leave but care too much for their clients.  They all say that it has gotten even worse since I left.  People quit all the time and that has caused instability for all, which affects the clients.  I pray that Horizon reads these reviews and understands that they need to change for the whole reason as to why they are a company in the first place, to help the clients!

I walk in and speak to every individual in the house including coworkers. I walk to the medication room and begin to count the control medications. I check the laundry listing, to see whose laundry is due for the night and get the laundry together to be washed. I will sort the clothes and begin washing them. I asked the individuals who wants to take a shower first tonight. I will gathered there shower needs(for the ones that cannot do it for themselves): towel/wash cloth, hygiene box, and pajamas, and bring them to the bathroom. I will start the shower water while the individual undresses. I will soap there wash cloth and begin bathing them. Staff dried them off using a towel and assisted them with putting on there pajamas. Staff cleaned the bathroom after each individual shower. After the showers were finished, Staff called each individual, one at a time, to come to take there medications. Once all medications are finished, I prepared a snack for the individuals (most of the time I let the individuals pick out there snack). I made sure everyone got a snack before going to bed. I assisted some individuals to bed, by making sure they used the bathroom before going to bed, once in the bed, tucking them in, and making sure there was nothing in the floor. Once in the bed, I did 30 minute bed checks on all individuals.

Sadly, Horizon appears not to be on the right track. The company has low funds, the employees are overly stressed, many of us have to work from home to get the job done or we would always be behind, and the work culture is negative. Some team leaders and program managers are well knowledgeable and helpful. Others make you severely question how they got the position. Then you have some who may not be qualified for the position, but due to their "relationship" with higher management they are offered the position. There is little to no room for growth and promotion. People often feel stuck. If you're not in with the in crowd than you don't have a great chance. The health insurance is overly expensive. It cost approximately $1,000 per a month for a family plan. Horizon does not pay well. All your paperwork is due within 24 hours. Even if you have an emergency and you're ill you are still required to get your paperwork in. It's not an awful job, but it can be demanding at times, stressful, and there isn't much suooort from supervisors. Upper management and profolio directors often look like they haven't slept in days and have heavy bags under their eyes.

I could write a book on how disfunctional this compay is. To be a Behavioral Health Organization you would think that upper management would care more about the patient care that is given and the mental health of their employees. The case load that the Case Managers are given is unreal. Most have 70 or more patients to see face to face monthly and with the amount of paperwork it's impossible. Why push for billing?? Horizon blames no raises for their employees for years now on their billing system. When employees find errors and report them nothing is done about it. Supervisors will bully and demean other employees and when employees put their notices in,it doesn't matter how long of a notice given or how valued of an employee they become invisible to certain supervisors. There are so many emcompetent employees /managers still employed at Horizon that daily make critical errors or that choose to not do their job costing the company thousands of dollars!Resulting in overall hardship for evey employee and nothing is done about it.

I work as a site supervisor in an alternative program.  I supervised 2-5 mental health clinicians as they worked with students were removed from the traditional school setting.  My duties included completing school attendance, maintaining my client's files and update as needed,  Completing quarterly reports, monthly summaries to the schools, completing audits, meeting with school officials to discuss transitioning client who have made progress, conducting group therapy with evidenced based curricula, and creating individualized treatment plans.  The hardest part of the job is when there a conflict in the schedule between programming (working with the client) and administrative duites (meetings regarding the business of Horizon).  The most enjoyable part of the job is working directly with the client and the parents.  The workplace climate is collaborative and cooperative, however our site kinda seem on a island on our own because of the client population.  I have learned a lot of leadership skills, especially in the role of a supervisor.

Working with individuals with intellectual disabilities is rewarding, and I loved it.  I applied with them to stay in this line of work since my current employer was closing down.  Let me tell you about their application process.

You'll apply for the full time Residential Technician position. It's always open, but spoiler alert - they're not looking to fill it. They'll call you, interview you for full time, tell you all of the perks it offers. Some time later (days to weeks depending on where you are in the recruitment cycle), a recruiter will call you and either say that he saw your application and wondered if you'd be interested in part time (playing dumb to the fact that you already interviewed), or that you need to apply for the PT with the FT because they "go together."

If you do it, they'll hire you, but not for the job you interviewed for.  You'll be offered a maximum of 18 hours a week, at $3/hr less than the position you applied for.  It doesn't matter how much experience you have or how good you are in this field, they do everyone like that.  You'll only get full time hours if you're willing to be their part time joke for a while.

This used to be a great place to work. The agency cared about clients and staff. Schedules were flexible and benefits were good. This is the past. 

 Now upper management only cares about money. The agency is task driven. High caseloads and low quality of care.  Staff aren't treated like a valued asset. Staff are expendable. The turnover rate is high. If you enjoy being micromanaged then Horizon is for you! 

You get sick leave but then get bullied when you use it. Managers decide guidelines and consequences at their discretion. 

Communication between departments is lacking. 

They warn us of impending layoffs yet continue hiring non billing, high paid staff. We did not receive raises last year. We were told that those who received exceeds on their evaluations would get a raise or a bonus. They never did either. The CEO does a good job of appearing to be "transparent" and caring about staff but does little to prove it.

In the beginning, I felt that the company did a good job of displaying that both the consumers and employees were of value, however, over the years it turned into a numbers game; as the quantity of the consumers seen was ordered to increase, the quality of the services provided decreased as expected. If you are not a part of upper management, you are more often than not wasting your breath voicing concerns. This company does a great job of making you feel heard, without taking any real action to address those concerns. It didn't used to be this way. Co-workers were typically easy to get along with, although there were groups that associated among themselves. Direct Supervisors were generally knowledgeable and willing to help when possible to catch up with them.
