What is the best part of working at the company?
At Horizon, you really feel supported. Every week you sit down with your supervisor to chat about how things went and what’s coming up next. If you’re having trouble with something, you can just bring it up and figure out a solution together. Plus, there are paid holidays, plenty of PTO, and you walk away feeling appreciated.


What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The most challenging aspect of working there was that many of the referrals I received were “last resort” cases. Often, other providers were unsure how to proceed with a patient, so they referred them to me, which created a high level of stress and contributed to burnout. In addition, while the organization has many dedicated counselors—some with 15 to 20 years of service—there is also a high turnover rate due to compensation challenges. This turnover can be difficult for patients, as they may finally build trust with a counselor only to have that person leave in order to earn a sustainable living.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
The work environment and culture are truly positive. There’s a strong focus on building supportive relationships among coworkers, and the team is made up of people who show an exceptional level of empathy and compassion in the work they do.

What is the best part of working at the company?
They are on top of everything. They really take care of there employee's. Great company to work for. Great placement.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Everything works smooth.  Pay is on time. If something is wrong,  they call and fix it. No hassle, you know exactly what you are getting.  Wonderful company.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Friendly compendent staff. They always answer your calls. If you have an emergency they are there to help you through it.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Busy but manageable.  They always have a placement for you.

This really is a great job to get if you have little to no experience in the field or just got your masters degree. A great opportunity to learn the system and get a nice clinic foundation under you. If you're looking to get clinic hours, this is certainly a way to get them quickly. CEUs are baked into the company by attending Horizon trainings.

Otherwise, the pay is low even for this field. You will be overworked with a caseload of 55-60 clients, groups, and no real support from supervisors. A toxic culture within the company. I wouldn't recommend this company unless you're brand new to the field and want to get a year of experience before you explore better paying jobs.

No work-life balance. overwork staff, micromanage, underpay, poor support or advocacy for middle management or individual staff needs. Focused more on loads of paperwork, "stats", then quality supervision and client growth. Need more diversity especially in leadership. Extreme need for leadership training  (from professionals outside the agencies), in mid and upper administration and opportunities. Anyone in those roles or going to be in those roles should have to do ongoing training in leadership skills.

A typical work day for me is assisting with meals and transporting.  

I have learned that I can change people lives by showing up to work to help with things they cant assist with on there own.

The management is fairly-well.

I work in residents home I do not see the co-workers

The hardest part of the job is having to deal with the family members in the home. 

The most enjoyable part of the job is simply making the client happy with my presents daily.

Such an amazing job that cares about work life balance and employee wellness. My supervisor let me take mental health days when I was having a hard time without asking questions. It never feels like a pyramid structure but more like a team full of equals who are all there for to help the clients. They always offer incentives for growth and opportunities for trainings, and are constantly encouraging employees to move through the company!

I worked here for a year and wish I had been able to stay longer. I started right after my MSW and immediately connected with the work, the team, and the overall culture. It’s a supportive and collaborative place to grow professionally. I would definitely recommend this organization — pay and benefits are decent, and PTO is generous.

Horizon only cares about the employees who make them look good. They’re all about reputation. Working here will eventually drain you of all energy and purpose. I worked at HV and the director wasn’t supportive. If you don’t fit in & look good,  you’ll eventually leave or get pushed out.

Started here to get my foot in the door for mental health.   The people are great and the culture is good.   Benefits are ok.  The health insurance is not great and neither is retirement but vacation days add up and it’s a good Monday through Friday schedule unless you’re at inpatient.   

Good company for entry level experience, I was introduced to the medical records process. It was challenging, however, I obtained a good working knowledge of it.
