Be a proposal writer somewhere else. For starters, there is no training whatsoever, it's just trial by fire, and it's 1000x worse if you're not working at headquarters. The marketing director is laughably self-obsessed, will say she'll help and then abandon you, and never ever admit she's wrong. If you can pin her down, you'll leave her office more confused than when you came in because she's a terrible communicator. There are amazing managers beneath her, but any concerns you take to them will die when they reach the director because they have no pull. She expects you to be as good at engineering as the engineers, make site visits, that kind of thing. As for workload, prepare to be swamped constantly, and don't expect a single engineer in this company to have time to give you input on proposals. Everything is a last-minute scramble, so working nights and weekends is not uncommon. Prepare for a slew of random unimportant tasks that you will never have time for but always be hounded about even though they're basically unrealistic because, again, engineers don't have time for you. Forget about moving up. The marketing director is too much of a narcissist to see your value.

I could go on. Just stay away.

The environment was great. The employees love to connect with people so it doesn't make you feel like a robot. This is a company with great ethics and integrity and do not take shortcuts. The projects were exciting as well. They are involved with both large and small-scale projects and they have teams ready to tackle it all. Upper management had an emphasis in growing those with less experience  while also making you feel important. 

Great company with high quality and large projects to work on and a small company/laid back culture where you get in as much as you put into it. Work-life balance is a priority with flexible hrs and WFH options, I rarely work more than 40 hrs a week unless there's a big deadline. 

Not a lot of specific training provided and instead point you to guidelines/learn from examples - that's my learning style so I loved it, others struggle with it. 

This is a good engineering company with bad management over the Right of Way department. There are no defined (written) procedures. There is a poor "team" culture. If there is an issue that arises with the client you will not be supported.

Most Horrocks employees have been working there for 5+ years (really more like 10+) and there is an extremely low turn-over rate which is a good indication that it is a great place to work. Employees are happy and the company is very flexible and accommodating as long as there isn't a huge deadline coming up. They also have good benefits, competitive pay, and a reputation for excellence in the industry. All around great place to work.

I agree with the other negative reviews about Horrocks. I was given all sorts of promises, which never came to fruition. I found it rife with gossip and negativity. The corporation does not care about its employees, especially those at the lower level, such as mine in administration. Do not even consider working here. You will be miserable.

This is a well-established, successful firm that has multiple offices and opportunities. The culture of the company has the potential to be up-and-coming as the older generation begins to retire. The work is solid and steady, and is a great place to establish a career.

Horrocks has been great at creating a good work-life balance. I enjoy the people I work with, who are both professional and fun to be around. The career path is a little bit unclear, and I would love to see some improvement there. All in all, they are one of the best places I have ever worked, and I would recommend them to someone coming into the civil engineering field.

I have been given a lot of promises on being able to be promoted and to receive higher salary, but nothing has been delivered. Management has a hard time making decisions. Benefits are also mediocre with high premium costs and low HSA company contributions. Fears of benefits becoming worse are popping up for next year due to the acquisition.
