Hospice Care Plus

Hospice Care Plus is a great place to work, if you enjoy serving those in your community. All staff are committed to providing exceptional care to the patients and families within our 6 county region. 

It's a great place to volunteer, for anyone who is looking for service opportunities. 

The most stressful part of the job is the fact that you're working with terminally ill patients, and the stress that this time in their life can bring to a family. Supporting and caring for those facing terminal illness can be emotionally taxing...so you've got to make sure you're taking plenty of time to care for yourself and maintain a good work/life balance, so that you don't "take work home" every night.

Some have noted in their reviews about the high turn around at Hospice Care Plus, specifically among clinical staff (RN's and Nurse Aides). From what I have observed, some staff start the on-boarding process and realize just how stressful it can be (at times) working in end of life care. I feel like those who leave only after a short time aren't really giving it a fair chance before making the decision to leave. We need folks who can come on board and feel confident in their ability to work with terminally ill patients, knowing that some days will be hard, but many days will be filled with joy!

At the end of the day, it is rewarding and community service oriented. You meet some great people, hear some great stories, learn a great deal about the lives of the patients, share laughs and tears, get some amazing hugs from some amazing folks, and feel good about what you've done at the end of each day! 

I would recommend working for Hospice Care Plus!

This job had no true work-life balance, and the demands placed on employees were excessive with unrealistic expectations. Management was heavily focused on productivity and money, which felt inappropriate for a nonprofit organization. There was clear favoritism and a serious lack of accountability — for example, night shift staff were allowed to sleep on the job without consequences, while others were held to impossible standards.

On top of that, if you were on the boss’s bad side, you were often targeted and harassed. The work environment felt toxic, stressful, and emotionally draining with little support from leadership. Overall, it was an exhausting experience that did not value employees or align with the mission it claimed to serve.

Management tries to run the CCC with as few staff as possible. I was injured due to admission of morbidly obese patients and only 2-3 staff to care for them. Supplies are limited/outdated. Recent upper management changes and policy changes with no input from the staff and a non-medical/business CEO, which is not ideal for patients. They do give a great Christmas party with cash prizes, which they then add to your check and tax, so you get barely any of it. Honestly, I love the patients, but I didn't like the choices of new management prior to being injured. For instance, the prayer area for grieving families was turned into an office, when they could've just put cubicles in a couple large rooms, as families need this area available. Not patient-centered they way it should be and some staff aren't as caring/attentive as they should be, but don't get fired?

Daily responsibility of checking yourself to see if you have everything you need to deliver satisfaction to the patients.  I learned to double check before I left the office.  Managed my route to be the most effective and timely.  Obtained trip information before leaving.  Co-workers could be so helpful in many ways such as passing safety information to you before you go to these residents homes.  Hardest part of this job was hitting the road in all worst of weather.  The most enjoyable was knowing I delivered everything that patients needed for the day and I was safely arriving back to office.

Hospice care is a stressful field with a very quick pace of patients admitted and dying. This makes it a tough environment to work in right off the top, but add in the not-for-profit board constantly changing, never ending regulations, money shortfalls and employee turnover in a constant training situation, and things are even worse.  With these issues aside you can also feel personal reward for the work hospice does in the community and the prestige that comes with being associated with a well-respected organization. The pay cannot be very competitive, so the board tries to compensate with time off benefits.

CEO is more focused on all the regulations that haven’t been followed for the last few years then providing quality care to patients. Home teams are chronically understaffed and overworked. 
Support is hard to find. When problems arise for patients, home team staff (RN, SW, CH) have to figure things out on their own, and push higher ups when things escalate. Trying to take earned time off is difficult. Pay is way below market value for all jobs. 
Work schedules for home teams are flexible, so that is a huge plus. Most of the staff are amazingly caring people with a drive to provide a quality experience for patients and families. 

Hospice Care Plus is true to its mission. They put patients first. Management is very supportive. Every employee is supportive and pleasant to work with. Pay is not great, but it is a non-profit. Work schedule is flexible. They offer full benefits package, which is very affordable for employee only (a bit expensive for a family...but so is everywhere else!). Also, really good PTO and Holiday time. Management is good about letting you use you PTO when you need it.

I was expected to work an impossible assignment and when I asked to discuss ways to make my schedule work better, I was told my time management skills were lacking. 
I, and other admission nurses, were working 14 hour days.  Absolutely no work life balance. 
Management has no compassion or empathy for their employee’s struggles putting complaints and suggestions off as having a bad attitude. 
Please take this into consideration before applying for a position with this organization. 

Typical day is going to visit patients, making calls, doing notes.  However some have to drive 3 to 4 counties which is impossible. with number of people to see and calls from all counties. Good people work there that do the actual service to the clients.  Management is clueless and wants people to work all the time.

Hospice Care Plus is a wonderful company to work for. All of the employees work together very well to meet the patients needs. HCP managements really cares about their employees. everyone welcomes you and makes you feel like family very quickly.
