Hospice of East Texas

During any given day, I am responsible to journal entries, account reconciliation, financial analysis and other various reporting activities. I've learned over the years the importance of customer service. In this industry, you never know who your customer may be, a grieving widow or another coworker in need of immediate help. I have also learned to look past initial attitudes and appearances, you never know what is going on is someone's life in the background.

My coworkers are the best part of my job. Everyone here is upbeat and generally happy. We enjoy our jobs and the environment in which we work.

The hardest part of the job can be the emotions we encounter everyday. As I said before, patients are a normal customer. We have be good compassionate listeners. There is no rushing someone off the phone when all they need is someone to talk to.

The most enjoyable part goes back to the environment of the organization. It is a family-oriented business. If something personal comes up, the whole team is behind you, supporting you in whatever way they can, whether it be food or an encouraging word.

This used to be a great place to work. It was a family type environment. Now it seems to all be about the bottom line. I don't even know most of the other employees anymore. We used to do lunches together sometimes or get little awards if you went above and beyond. Now there is not really any incentives to work hard. Never get any kind of pat on the back. There have been a few years they did not give raises so with inflation it is kind of like getting a pay cut. When they finally did resume giving raises I had a great evaluation and still only got a 2.5% raise. Did not get any kind of recognition on my 10 year anniversary. Not even a simple thank you or :great job". Most of the employees I talk to are unhappy.

The Phone started ringing at 8am,so you must be ready to handle patients needs. I learned to multi task very well. Met my job requirements plus any add duties requested by management. Our desk were in a large open area with a lot of talking going on most of the time. It was hard to keep a conversation private to a Dr. or a patient. I enjoyed talking to patients and their family's, helping them through a problem, pain management or just listening.

My job requires me to scan all medical information into our EMR System so it is easy accessible to all our Medical Professionals.
To be more flexible and to not feel rushed .
Management is good but communication can be lacking at times
Acceptance of all race/religion
Age level of some of our patients, we are a hospice facility and it is tough to see pediatric age patients admitted to our service

Working 12-hour shifts for in-patient hospice patients. Here I learned to recognizer and gauge end of life signs and symptoms and to guide families through the changes in pt condition that typically occur as death nears. Nurse-patient ratios were healthy, and staff was usually available to assist when needed. Hospice MDs were very willing to provide education concerning their individual preferences for hospice treatment.

Management Is Horrible, Big Lack Of Communication For Sure. Favoritism Is Bad There!! Watch what you say because people will exaggerate and twist what you say They will straight up lie as well trying to get you in trouble for whatever reason! It's an ok job, but I have been there almost 2 and a half years and I am about to leave and move on and find me a better job!!

I assisted families in need of Hospice services.  I maintained and organized clients’ files.  I contacted Hospitals, Doctors, Nurses and Families.  I arranged supplies according to clients’ needs.  Discretion and judgment while handling sensitive patient records was imperative.


I spent over 12 years doing Hospice nursing.  It was the greatest place not only for the patients but also for the employees.  I was able to do Home care and inpatient care.  I want to be at Homeplace when my time comes.  There is not a better to spend the last few days.

expect excelence from employees  and relys majorly on the employees who do work hard and carry the weight great place to work. I cant speak to everyones day to day activities but I can say it runs just like a small scale hospital . They strive to do their best everyday and the staff was great to work with very diverse and commited to thier jobs they take pride in what they do.

Administration has unrealistic expectations. Inadequate staffing. Problems ignored. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Friendly, staff are helpful. Administration is not helpful   

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
12 hours of anxiety.
