Pros: Adequate 6 week long training to get a basic understanding of Medicare. Training was sufficient to provide needed knowledge for the time when you hit the floor, but transition from training to selling was horrible. There was a feeling of 'growing pains' and that this was the first time the company was doing this, which wasn't the case as it has been in business for over 10 years. Company makes it money selling leads to other companies and it shows when you hit the floor. The leads provided to the agents are dismal and in some cases years old. For most agents, it is straight cold calling, though the managers will swear the leads are equivalent to, 'Shooting fish in a barrel with dynamite.’ It is unbelievable the management will invest in training and licensing (local and multiple state licenses) to sell insurance and then throw new hires into a garbage pit of smoke and mirrors. 
Cons: Exaggerated claims of success and reward from the time of the interview. Reality was a slightly better than minimum wage job at best for most, with some (those that selected the Senior Level Agent plan), possibly owing money back to the company. The claims of going up 'two income levels' and great 'work culture' were outright lies. A very small percentage of people actually make money here, and they sell that success to every fool who walks in the door. It is basically the same idea as gambling. You could win. If the idea of being chained to a desk and calling upwards of 300 people a day to pitch them Medicare they have no interest in sounds appealing, this could be for you. And this was during the supposed favorable time of Annual Enrollment where anyone who is Medicare eligible can buy. You could be one of the lucky ones that gets the actual real leads promised. Oh, and there are real leads hand-picked for the chosen few. I saw one when I was not supposed to. They practice the worst favoritism here that I have seen since junior high. If you are good at suckering and lying to people and selling them potentially an insurance plan they don't need, this is a winner. One manager told me to lie to a client that there were more specialists in the area than there were. Definitely skirting the line of exploitation of the senior population. The amazing work culture that was touted also from day one was flippant, arrogant, misleading and discriminatory. The whole thing felt more like a badly ran circus than an office. I have worked in actual service industries for years, and this was not one of them. This is about making money for someone else at your own expense. Even the free coffee was bad. The millionaires at the top can't even spring for decent coffee.

I'd like the idea of working there and I enjoyed my time working there. It was something new and challenging for me and I felt that I did okay within my own boundaries. I appreciated the fact that hp-1 invested time in their employees and they made the employees feel like they were very important. However these good things, had their drawbacks. At first I was enamored by the fact that they want to do the right thing. The right thing, is not always necessarily achievable. And the right thing, almost always has the definition, according to the company as a sale. With Medicare and with insurance, not everybody always needs to change, not everybody always wants to change. As sales, if you have an opportunity, you present a plan and you sell the plan if you can. However if somebody has a plan which is good for them and doesn't need you to change, they don't exactly want to do that. And not changing somebody because it is unnecessary, is the right thing to do. They will want you to sell a plane, any plan and only push you to sell one type of plane. I disagreed with the fact that I was only able to sell Medicare Advantage plans and supplement plans but not prescription planes. For some reason, according to them it was a waste of time. But there are sales, even in prescriptions that you should sell, but they don't want you to sell. Apparently they don't make as much money for the company as a Medicare Advantage plan. I was always under the impression that sales are sales and one more is one more, but not here. Overall I wasn't entirely dissatisfied with the environment and the work that I did. I enjoyed my work, it was outbound and it was a little challenging but I learned quite a bit. The staff is polite, they are understanding and they are helpful, but in truth, they are just another sales company that only focuses on getting more and more numbers. To me that's a little contradictory as they don't want you to sell certain types of plans, like prescriptions because that can be more sales and they don't want to waste time on those. I would not work there again if I had the opportunity but if somebody can sell and meet their goals, which are not all that difficult, you will be fine, it just takes time. It was hard to get overtime,, and on the last day of AEP you cam work all you want, leading you to believe you'll get a large OT pay, but they will schedule you a day off to keep you at 40 hrs...even if you hit a goal. Time, it seems, is something that they're short of. I was let go after being shy of a few sales and coming into the second busy season.

This was by far the worst year working with this company. From the jump, the training was a joke. The sales trainer didn't know what they were talking about, most of the new hires knew more than the trainer himself. Advised on how to make a sales in very non compliant ways. You are told leads are so great, warm ready and when you actually get on the floor to sell, it's people calling for lost medicare cards, social security questions and they tell you to lie and say you are medicare or social security!!! You can make 500 calls a day and maybe get 1 or 2 people to talk to and the lead is from 4 years or more ago or it's a new lead but they need a new card or been promised 3k a year on a visa. Management is a all out joke. Most havent even been in medicare sales, they degrade you talk down to you and treat you like you are nothing. You cant take a day off with out getting what they call an occurrence unless it's planes a few weeks in advance, too many of them they fire you, late from lunch 1 minute from a break all considered occurrence... ridiculous had a friend need maternity leave she has to fight them on it .The pay is a joke, commission is bare minimum. The spiffs in AEP were comical at best and maybe 1 a week for an entire team of about 100 or more and It was a raffle. Pushed to be unethical, unrealistic goals for the horrible leads you get. AEP I was sitting in ready for more than 45 mins a time OEP was/is even longer. There is no compassion for you as an human being much less an employee, you are  not valued in any way. The equipment is old smelled like smoke and was mismatched broken head sets just garbage. They also do not tell you that they will hold your appointment for 180 days which is a full 6 months. Just not a good place to work at all. Nothing they say in the beginning is even close to the reality of this position. They are hiring so many people, they don't have enough trainers for and sent out messages to us agents asking for "help" even if we had no experience to train new hires AND sell at the same time. I couldn't get away fast enough. Save yourself the drama this place is not worth it at all. 

A good program overall. They provide two huge monitors and a computer. 
 Fully pay for and help with licensing - good training. Takes a while for the company to get you ramped up for opportunities to sell.  To provide you with enough state licenses (which they fully pay for) and give you enough skills in the system so you start receiving enough phone calls and opportunities can take months. You feel like you might get fired because you have no sales, but you won't.  They don't do that, so that is a good thing.  The "back office" appears to be overwhelmed and very slow.  Once that straightens out all is OK but it will take months.  There are different divisions and some don't pay much in commissions over the base of $20 but expectations in the off-season are very low and they don't let people go for lack of production.  Without previous experience in AEP season that is where you will probably start. The season is insanely busy and there is tons of overtime so you make money even if commissions are low in your division.  In the off-season, they put you on outbound call duty with minimum 100 to 150 calls a day to prospects that hang up on you, but again, they don't let you go and keep paying your base even if you don't produce anything. There are opportunities to level up every few months and you can apply for positions in other divisions or for supervisory jobs.  I did that and in my new division getting more licenses, a higher base, and a lot more in commissions and incentives. Of course, in the off-season, it is still a lot of outbound calls which is never fun.  There is a low quota for sales and management is very patient with ramping you up to full potential but you are competing for inbound call volume with more experienced agents with twice or triple the state licenses.  Not unfair - you have to earn your status but it takes time and is frustrating.  The best thing is excellent job security.  They don't fire you unless there is a very good reason and are very tolerant of low production, particularly in the off-season.  

First when I got hired one I was told I was doing one thing but then on my first full day (first day was a tech check and to their credit they paid you for a full 8 hours instead of 1.5 hours that the tech check takes) I was told I was doing something completely different. Training wasn't bad but needed more structure with how its run as lots of CSR's were all asking questions about stuff that was shown in training and given information on how to do or what to do. While I understand its impossible to train for every scenario or situation I wish there was more training on scenarios instead of just saying "these two things are going to be the bulk of your calls" when that simply isn't true at all.

On the floor your resources are usable but getting help is often a struggle if you have a problem. We were told to use the team chat to get help but often questions don't get answered or get answered after we are off the call and no longer need assistance. We would get conflicted information from the client that confused us more than anything.

The next campaign I was sent to the training and nesting wasn't really enough for the job.  It was 7 days of training and one day of nesting when it should have been 7 days of nesting to get us used to the job.  They have high expectations but its almost impossible to meet the goals the client and the companies needs. The pay is low for the amount of work you have to do.  They claim to say that they are family but slip up once and its out the door.  No PIP no trying to figure out what is the issue you are having and if they could do anything to help its you are termed.  

I will say that work/life balance is good they do stress that when your shift is over to do something else and disconnect.  They do also give you equipment to use so you don't have to use your own computer or monitors for the job and you can sometime win some prizes.  If you absolutely need a job this would be okay but if you can hold out for something better please do so you are just a cog.


This is easily the worst job I had. Firstly, I was mislead about the compensation and the commission structure. I was told agents would be making sales and it would be busy during AEP, but this is wrong. During AEP, I might get one or two calls a day. The agents with seniority get a higher call volume. The company also hides the commission structure until the last week of training. The commission structure is comparable to chump change, and the higher ups have an unreasonable expectation of hitting sales goals during AEP. The training is nonexistent. Sure you get four weeks of training, but this involves doing modules and listening to presentations, there is no hands on training. After the four weeks of training, they basically put you on the sales floor, expecting you to get sales. There is also a ton of micromanagement. This company micromanages to the extreme! You have log into the phone system, and it tracks how long you've been available for a call, how many and long your bathroom breaks are. Even if you walk away from your desk for a minute, your supposed to put yourself in break! Racking up a attendance occurrence is easy because this company offers zero flexibility. During AEP, you're not allowed to take any days off, you better have  good excuse it you take the day off or have a doctor's note. If you take a day off, then you get an occurrence.  Management is lazy, not even sure how they got into those positions, you do not get any help from management when you need it! Also, this company does not answer the question if you will have a job after AEP. They over hired so many agents during AEP, there might not be a spot for you after it's over.  You are also a captive agent; meaning the company will hold your licenses for 6 months after you leave! There are plenty of other Medicare companies to work for, do not choose this one! 

Training was pretty solid. No complaints there. I took a role selling Medicare advantage/Medigap and ancillaries for a single carrier. The leads were supposed to come directly from the carrier, either from people calling in and hitting the prompts for sales, or through customer service transfers. These leads have a very high conversion and are generally interested in the products I would offer. It started off that way and was great for a while. Started just before AEP. During AEP all I would get is calls for PDP plans which took about 45 min to an HR or more to complete and paid the least on the commission scale. None the less it was unlimited ot during AEP so I just grinded it out. After AEP it died. Once OEP hit it picked up a little. Toward the end of OEP the carrier I was selling for decided to try a new marketing agency and bought direct tv leads. That's when things took a catastrophic turn for the worse. Half the agents in my department quit or transferred after about a month of these atrocious leads. They aren't pre qualified at all and the ads that are being put out there are super misleading and disguised to look like there are benefit add-ons that you can get straight from Medicare. Doesn't mention the carrier name at all on the ads, then these people are basically blindsided when I tell them how it actually works. Anyway, these leads converted at about 5% and that's all I started getting everyday. Was pretty much the beginning of the end for me. Once those started I got no leads directly from the carrier anymore. Ya know, the ones with a much higher conversion rate... Anyway, to sum it up, great place to work for AEP, absolute nightmare outside of it. Micromanaged and belittled everyday outside of AEP. 

Sadly, gone are the days of having fun AND making money!  AEP used to ROCK!!! Not so much anymore.  Healthplanone is the top "lead generating" business, so they make more money selling 'leads' to outside agents vs keeping them in house for broker's to sell.  So Healthplanone makes their money either way, unfortunately the brokers in house suffer bc we are getting the old leads that have already been called 20x!  There is this constant bad energy that flows within the place, that something just isn't right. From the messed up paychecks, the constant commission "updates" and the shady processes that go on.  My typical work day lately has been dailing about 100+ leads a day, with no prevail. I used to make at least 2-5 sales a day which was awesome money, but those days are gone and I'm not sure exactly what changed.  It was brought to my attention that apparently I forgot how to sell. The hardest part of this job is coming into work, knowing that the leads I am about to call have already been called.  Management picks and chooses who gets the top leads, they are called "Alpha leads" and they digress from that point.  Be very careful of the promises that are presented when trying to get you hired.  Ask for a commission breakdown and ask how often it has changed within the last year.  Ask for REAL numbers and actual paycheck stubs to validate the "6 figure income you are sold at the interview"  There are so many fake reviews on other websites saying that you have to be at work, logged in your phone and showing an effort to make money.  That's a very deceptive statement and shouldn't be used to lure innocent career minded individuals.  Do yourself a favor and apply elsewhere!

A typical work day is clocking in and after trouble shooting the software you are assigned to work on and it failing for the 5th time. Then being blamed by management that you are not capable of restarting the program. Once you finally get a steady amount of work done after your 6th attempt at booting up you will then be told that your job doesn’t even exist anymore. This will happen after 2 months they will then thrust you into a peer mentoring role for a job you yourself are just getting the hang of. You may be told that the team is beginning and that your help will set you apart from the rest of your co workers so if you plan on scaling up in the corporation. So you will probably make spreadsheets and templates for your team to use.All the while they really they are just trying to pit you against one another, oh the management is also copying all of the extra work you do and submitting it as their own so you never get any credit for the things you do. They make sure to offer a lot of fun company dress up days which they barely advertise and then if you do dress up and try to build company spirit they will request you stay off camera. Overall the company is really great at leading you to believe things are going to be well and your all in it together only to turn around and Hit you when you down. In my case they fired me while I was hospitalized rcieveing blood transfusion. They also continued to ask me to work while I was sick with Covid for over a month because I was wfh so it wasn’t “to hard” for me to rest in between calls…

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
As of late there was extreme push to call clients that you have helped in the past. The problem is it was a constant push to call them over and over again. Some calls were within 3 to 4 days of just completing an application which was supposed to be after seven days and then 25 days and 90 days, but if you didn’t speak to them you have to keep dialing their phone to the detriment of your own, ability to get new applications completed . If you did not complete those calls to their satisfaction, you would get no new leads, therefore totally affecting your overall sales for the month if you don’t make those sales, then you are at risk. That was constantly looming over your head that you would be terminated 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Started to be really stressful you communicate through teams chat, and there were constant messages and notes coming to you about what’s newly required from a new meeting that they’ve had that supposedly come from the top. That made things very stressful

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Answering inbound or outbound calls, more inbound during certain seasons of the year, which is normal, but I would say over the past year or so the constant push to make sales and to increase business. The name of the game is sales, but it started to be a little more than just about sales, and there is where the problem tended to lie
