As an exempt staff person, I worked 45+ hours every week with no lunch break.  I received calls from staff in the evenings, on the weekends and during holiday time, therefore, work/life balance was not favorable.

A typical day was doing a facility walkthrough first thing in the morning.  Followed by touching base with key staff on their departments, performing data input, responding to correspondence, returning phone calls, attending Management Meetings or conference calls, billing, banking, payroll upkeep.

I learned that work/life balance needs to be carefully maintained.

Coming from an extensive Management Training program through the YMCA of USA, I tend to be more professional in my management style.  However, I have successfully built integral staff relationships without having to be everyone's "best friend" as is the management style of HHWC (Hunterdon Health & Wellness Center).  Upon the elimination of the Assistant Director position and the ensuing e-mail sent to staff, I had non-stop phone calls and texts.  Staff were crying on the phone - these are the relationships I build that are crucial to a successful operation.

The hardest part of the position was trying to fit into the management duo of best friends (they worked together for 17 years and are best friends).  I have an intense work ethic and a strong leadership background and don't believe in "hanging out" on the job when there is so much to accomplish.

The most enjoyable part of the job was building relationships with staff and members.

Certain work needs to be done as soon as possible. Despite everyone's best efforts, there is never enough time to complete these tasks due to the high amount of patients and phone calls we received, and this was exacerbated by the pandemic. Although it was almost constantly 'all hands on deck' at the facility, including the manager, there was no real solution offered and the hospital system constantly gave warnings to not go overtime or asked employees to shift hours to avoid overtime, despite the willingness to do so to get everything done. This only further kept everyone from finishing everything on time and no one is ever caught up.

When patients are aggressive or inappropriate, very little is really done to prevent that behavior from happening again. This is  especially discouraging with patterned behaviors by certain specific patients.

Although it is good practice with any employment, keep a paper trail of important discussions such as orders/requests by clinical staff or management

The facility feels like a family to some and people try to be welcoming to newcomers. However, the standard pressures of healthcare added with those of a pandemic adds a heavy toll that even the warmest coworkers cannot help with.

Occasionally, there would be free lunches or perks from other company reps, which is a nice treat or surprise when it happens.

Hunterdon Healthcare is a rural health system in central New Jersey that offers a stable working environment that naturally fosters great working relationships.  A typical day at Hunterdon Healthcare in my current role addresses web content change requests while also devoting time to development projects including web site development and site optimizations. As my role requires communication with various departments, services and vendors I am always learning the project management process while also intentionally (or inadvertently) learning new coding concepts. Management is very supportive of my role and needs and regularly makes an effort to ensure I have the proper tools and time to complete my assigned tasks and projects. My coworkers are also supportive of my role and are fun to work alongside while remaining effective in their roles. As the sole web developer its sometimes hard to troubleshoot coding issues I'm not an expert at while simultaneously being responsible for maintaining my employer's entire 20+ website and app presence. Successfully troubleshooting or completing a website project however bring me immense joy, knowing I was able to contribute tangible and pleasing interactive products that combine my technical and artistic passions.

To start, this is my first job at a hospital.
As a whole, the hospital is ok. From my experience, Each department in this hospital is a Different environment. The O.R. however, is hostile. It's obvious on the outside looking in. Add the lack of help, messy management, and an HR department that plays musical chairs and likes to sweep things under the rug... You get the idea.
You are made to feel guilty about taking your PTO. 
You work too hard, you're expected to keep up that pace no matter what.
If you speak out about how you're treated you will be punished.
Management plays favorites, to the point where people have quit/have been fired because of it.
Ask for help, you're lucky if anybody has time to help you. Sometimes you need to teach them how to do your job specifically, so it just becomes more work anyway. 
You are expected to do certain jobs that you weren't completely trained for and be capable of doing the workload of 3-5 workers.
You can take a lunch break and be exactly on time with your breaks and still be accused of taking long breaks.
From what other people who work here, who have been at other hospitals have told me, "This hospital is a constant sinking ship and it's everyone else's fault but the captains."
But hey, there's always pizza to soften the blow, right? Have to boost morale so people forget that they're miserable.

Worked overnight shift and worked long hours. I was expected to work for 10 hours each day for 8 hours pay. Managers were not willing to come in and take over care of your patients so that you could go home after working all night long! This added to the stress of working in a hostile environment at times with nurses and medical doctors who were not willing to work for your patients together. The hours were difficult and the managers were not willing to allow you to function as a human being while working six to seven days per week as crisis counselor. 
     Some of the nurses and doctors cared for the patients that we were all responsible for. Some did not care about any of the patients that we were all responsible for. The latter group of nurses and medical doctors are what made the jobs so difficult. The managers were stressed and passed their stress down to the line staff who were actually doing an excellent job of caring for the patients that we served. I took great pride in working with the patients at this community screening center for close to twenty years.

Personal training is scheduled on your own time so work is flexible.  There are thousands of members so plenty of opportunities to obtain clients.  I learned how to manage face to face relationships with clients and build a solid rapport.  The supervisor has a lousy work ethic and irresponsible work behavior, however, trainers will rarely have to work directly with the supervisor.   The work environment is great because the members are friendly and it is also a great place to socialize.  The hardest part of the job was dealing with the supervisor and the baggage that they brought to work.  The most enjoyable part of the job was working at a fitness center surrounded by likeminded people all seeking to better their health.

When they say nurses eat their young,  this place is the epitome of that. Many days you'll leave on the brink of tears. The older nurses (most)  will complain for you in a heart beat. There is so much nitpicking.  I think many days  if it wasnt for my awesome manager and my supportive night shift coworkers, , I would have quit from the get go. To make the best out of a bad situation,  I drilll my mistakes into my head and ensure that they are never repeated. Day shift employees think they are the best and night shift is incompetent. There is so much pressure and  I hope I become a diamond in the end . The staff to patient ratio is ok and like any job, some days you work yourself to the bone. The patients are just phenomenal and they make it all worth it. The benefits are great but the pay is nothing to write home about.

My typical day at work involved coming in an hour prior to opening the office and counting the safe and opening up a cash drawer for patient payments. I also opened up front doors and the front computer systems. In my time at Hunterdon Healthcare I learned the NextGen system that operates our office. My management was wonderful. They performed reviews and always gave you the ability to ask any questions and were not afraid to just throw you into the work day. My co-workers were all very experienced and great people to work with. The hardest part of the job was balancing home and office life. I enjoyed almost every part of my position at Hunterdon Healthcare and I would recommend them to potential candidates.

Members would have concerns about various issues in the facility that upper management never saw fit to inform us were happening, which results in friction. The roster was full of interpersonal conflicts, and rule enforcement was handled inconsistently  which led to misunderstandings and confusion during problem solving. The safety equipment was shoddy and outdated, and the required monthly in-services were not held or conducted to meet safety standards. The patrons were as understanding as they could be, but I could never shake the feeling their frustration might be warranted. Tread carefully, liabillty isn’t something you want to be worrying about on the job.

In a regular day I took care of our clients at their homes , I also worked in nursing homes and assisting living places  if we had Hospice clients to take care of  , our clients had different nationalities , backgrounds, and cultures. 
For me the hardest part is to take care on Clients with Alzheimer as it reminds me of my mother and the difficult time we went through with her.
To me the most important and rewording part of my job is working with Hospice clients , it is so important to make shore that we give them the best care  and understanding at the time when they need us the most.
