The best part of working at Illumination Health + Home is the leadership, the people, and the mission.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The most stressful part of the job is navigating employees who are not fully aligned with the mission.
At times, there are individuals who carry forward old habits or approaches that don’t reflect the values or expectations of the organization. Helping them refocus, reset behaviors, and realign with the mission can be challenging and time-consuming.

That said, the work of coaching, setting clear expectations, and reinforcing the purpose behind what we do is also an important part of strengthening the team. When alignment happens, it reinforces the culture and ensures we continue to serve clients with the compassion, professionalism, and integrity they deserve.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Illumination Health + Home has a mission-driven, fast-paced work environment where leadership truly sets the tone. Leaders are accessible, supportive, and focused on growth, accountability, and doing what’s right for both staff and clients.

What really makes the culture stand out is the team on the ground. Frontline staff, medical, case management, and operations work together with compassion and dedication to make things happen every day. The work can be challenging, but there’s a strong sense of teamwork, purpose, and pride in the impact we make.

It’s not easy work, but it’s meaningful — and the people who are here for the mission make it worth it.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
My days are fast-paced and rarely predictable. I spend most of my time supporting teams on the ground, troubleshooting real-time operational issues, coaching staff, and making sure our clients are receiving the care and dignity they deserve. I’m constantly balancing leadership responsibilities, accountability, and mission alignment while working closely with site leadership and cross-functional teams.

No two days look the same, but what stays consistent is the purpose behind the work and the dedication of the teams who show up every day. It can be challenging and demanding, but it’s meaningful, and the impact makes it worth it at Illumination Health + Home.

My time working for  Illumination Foundation started off great, but ended poorly. Management needs to learn better ways to communicate effectively with staff,  and Riverside office has inner office conflicts and they don’t work together for the good of clients.
 The best part of the organization is the clients they are in need of a caring person to just listen and help guide there thinking about situations and behaviors and life issues they really are the stars of the organization.. 

Some of the staff  are great people who have generous hearts and go above and beyond there job duties for clients and other team members… The pay for the job and stress on the job is low wage by industry standards and management shows no appreciation for staff unless your one of the chosen employees but they will use you up and then disregard you with little to no regard for clients or the organization.. 

This is a good starter job for social service and case management type work but ILLUMINATION FOUNDATION is not a career longevity type job, let this be a springboard into a better job and help build your resume.. 

But it’s ok for what they pay and to learn… Good or Bad you will learn and move on to bigger and better!!! 
Management will try to bully you and use negativity  to stress you but they use documentation a there weapon of choice to punish employees, yet they continually change policies and working standards weekly, if you miss a day of work when they have a meeting they do not catch you up on the meeting and you’ll be held accountable for any policy changes you miss yet they never communicate those if you are absent-

Riverside Office management and leads are novices level at best, program management is nonessential as they really have never taken any responsibility nor accountability for the serious lack of stability, the Riverside office has never had a real chance to grow and have suffered mental stress and lacked the management the employees needed to be successful- The organization has just traded one unsuccessful management team for another and they still can’t get right -

The most valuable lesson i take with me is to that many organizations hype themselves as organizations of change yet fail to be honest with themselves when they are off mission off target and really pushing self promotion and not serious change in the communities they claim they help -

Be careful think long and hard about taking a job with this organization do so internet searching and you shall find some interesting facts - Fact check everything ask serious questions if you take a interview don’t trust the hype - 

If you take the job keep your eyes towards the future and work this as a entry level until you find a higher level position with another organization- This is the lower level of social services-

Stationed at Stanton MSC. Worked with multiple programs within housing. Day to day operations is always busy. IF is a good introduction to social services with the homeless population. IF has been growing and growing so positions also get created and there are opportunities to transfer or promote. My main complaint would be locally, the management team at time was harsh to staff. But the clients/patients experiences and colleagues were great. Upper management could be supportive at times although it’s hard to let of managers who have bring the outcomes (independent of the methods used to get there). Know that really it depends about 90% what kind of manager you get. If they are understanding, you will have good work/life balance. They promote training and networking opportunities. Unfortunately if you don’t get a good manager, you might get stuck in the same position and never given an opportunity to grow. For the most part, most managers across the organization are positive though. Attach yourself to positive peers and keep those relationships. IF has started to do tuition reimbursement. I think it’s at $1000 max per year. Know that like any job, if you work at the shelter or a program where staff is limited, then it will be a little bit harder to ask for time off but you can still take time off.  I really enjoyed the internal networking (other IF programs to which we could also refer to and from) and events we hosted such as the children’s fair in the summer. Be flexible, it is a non-profit, so programs do close and new ones pop up. The nice thing is, you will still have a job, but sometimes you might transfer to a different program and learn new duties.  HR needs to listen more staff feedback about management, apply at least learning opportunities for managers to improve. It is understood that not very manager will be fired, but for those managers who are not considerate, please provide ways to improve communication. Do not assume that because a manager is good at their job of operations, they are treating their staff with dignity and respect. 

The ethics of staff and leadership I found very questionable at times due to the amount of investigations, lawsuits, and the shady job promotions of inexperienced staff and all this came from upper management. The job was stressful and has a high turnover.

The environment is very high school-ish management is rude and passive aggressive. The rules are inconsistent and only apply to those who aren’t management.

Poor supportive Management and no structure to how things are run- Very unprofessional environment, lack of transparency -

Leadership lacks self reflection, integrity, equality, checks and balances of executive management, strong leadership -

They have a high turn over rate , the Housing Case Manager Position is interim type job no upper level from this position -

Management has turned over multiple times, Very high stress, low client success rate, training is poor quality.

They are great at gaslighting and manipulation and double talk and hypocrisy and pushing propaganda.

This is a good starter job to get your feet wet in the field for social service and case management type work but ILLUMINATION FOUNDATION is not a career longevity type job, let this be a springboard into a better job and help build your resume..

I was very excited to leave and within two weeks I had interviews and better opportunities and feel so much better and appreciated and and my stress levels have decreased -  

The best thing for my overall mental, physical and spiritual health and healing was to leave and level up.



The job seems cool at first until you are in the office then the toxic people come out and toxic work environment is really known.

Bad upper management the absence of a real HR, everything is based on the CEO and her feelings and if she likes you. The CEO shows special treatment towards her special Program Managers.

Not a very professional organization the gold shine wears off once you work for a few weeks and see the organization is rotten from the CEO into program managers.

The best part of the job are the clients and helping them with there individual situations and needs. The clients make the job worthwhile yet the toxic work culture just makes being in the office hard the lack of trust in coworkers is disheartening and disappointing!!!

Weigh the cost of taking a job here versus another highly rated organization within the field of social services and nonprofit work, this organization does not provide continuous job training or evolve with new technologies and in house programs, they like to keep a tight budget and focus on profit over new innovative services and opportunities, this organization is outdated and need a serious overhaul and new insights into how to case manage and services clients…

Very high employee turn over high stress , gossip, shady coworkers, no trust among the program managers and no unity among the many organization programs..

This organization is really a group of individuals not a collective and United organization and the clients suffer and the staff suffers…

My day-to-day involved serving food and cleaning the rooms. To put it simply, I was overworked, and the facility I was working at was severely understaffed. For the most part, staff and workplace culture were great, other than a few unprofessional, insufferable colleagues. This organization seems to attract them. You will be the main point of contact with their “clientele,” which will mostly consist of them asking to clean their room, toilet paper, or giving them a food plate after breakfast/lunch. Be prepared to clean up some accidents in the “client” restrooms. Also, be prepared to deal with rude, entitled, and demanding “clients”. They will test your patience. Honestly, if you have an opportunity elsewhere, take it.  Some pros that I can think of are that it was easy to build a routine, as most of the everyday tasks were pretty repetitive. Another pro is that this job is easy to learn, and you can adapt quickly. Also, you don’t have to bring your lunch. Aside from these pros, my overall experience was terrible, and this position has a high turnover rate for a reason. As a site attendant, you do not have a future in the organization, as there will always be a need for “site staff”. Even their employees motivated me to find something better. Not a good company to work for, there is no best part. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
This company is very unorganized, and management is very bad. There is no inclusion when working with this company.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
The work environment is very hostile and unsettling, I felt like I was walking around on eggshells every day and especially when my supervisor showed up to work. I felt like I was not part of a team in this type of environment. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
I would come to work, and do my job with little to no help from my supervisors or management if needed. When I would have a problem with a client I would inform my supervisor or management and they would always say they will look into it and get back with me, but never do.  More times than not management would not follow through on the things, and this was a big problem. Management did not seem to know protocols or how to handle situations with clients.

This has to be one of the worst nonprofits to work for in Orange County if not all of California. HR is deplorable and senior leadership encourages HR's toxic attitudes towards staff and managers. They openly joke about being "terminators". For a nonprofit that is supposed to be about helping people, it is quite sad they can't even help their own staff. Nearly every single department is completely unorganized and understaffed. HR and leadership like to point fingers and will never hold themselves accountable when thing go wrong. They expect employees to not make mistakes after little to no training and that applies to every position across the board. I highly recommend finding a job somewhere else unless you are okay with a toxic work environment. Talking to so many other staff members, many dread going to work because of the toxic culture the HR department (people and culture) has created. Trust me, save yourself the trouble and find a better place to work.

The IE  office is not worth the stress and micromanaging and high turnover rate in employees - gossip and many issues and favoritism is embedded within every layer of organizational management within the organization -
