Ica-Language-Services

·         provides instruction in a variety of subjects including math, social studies, reading, and science. ... These teachers, like most elementary school instructors, are primarily based out of one classroom and work with the same group of students daily. Doing homework, lesson plans, test. Exams…etc. teacher duties.

I worked on a remote government testing project, and the culture was absolutely toxic. The project manager is unfair, vindictive and retaliatory. People are afraid of her and she controls through fear. At first, she came off as very friendly, but then the threats and intimidation started, and subtle manipulations. For example, if you don't jump when she wants, or question her in any way, your hours/work gets cut back. And, there are no deadlines given, but if you don't do the work quickly enough, she'll take it away and give those hours to someone else. She trains her staff that they'd better jump and jump now, or there will be consequences. 
And this is remote contract work!!  
I brought my concerns to upper management, and they think this project manager would never do that. They believe her over me. After I made HR aware of the problems, I was not given any more work. I had no warning. 
It's very clear that I simply was pushed out because I pushed back and held my boss accountable for bad treatment of employees. 

If you work here, know that it's a good ol' boy network, and the management has each others' backs. They will not hesitate to enable an abusive project manager, "because they've known her for years." The HR person is goodhearted, but simply naive, in my opinion. He truly doesn't think anyone would act this way. I feel like he has integrity. He just is giving her the benefit of the doubt, which is sweet.
Overall, my experience with ICA Languages was unbelievably unfair and unethical, bordering on illegal. This PM resorted to dishonesty about the quality of my work in order to get rid of me, and she succeeded. And she could get away with it because she makes sure there are no performance reviews, and no record of anything.


Working in testing can be very stressful, but management at ICA excels at providing stability and work life balance in an industry where that is sometimes hard to find. 

My positive experience as an employee has really been shaped by having an excellent project manager that truly does care about and look after the needs of their employees.

I find the compensation fair and always on time. 

My benefits are easy to put to use, and management has always gone out of their way to accommodate any  issues or requests I've had.

I have always worked remote, and any accommodations that I have needed have always been met.

This is a hectic industry, and the work is always fast paced, but the company culture and the contentious management style really help to alleviate the pressures inherent in this industry.

I have been so far working at ICA full-time (More than 2 years) as a foreign language instructor and as a curriculum developer. 
All management care about is the "contract" and the " client", other people are unworthy. Management is unconsciously biased and racist and they discriminate against YOU if you are outspoken: And the weapon is PIPing you  (LMAO) to shut you off, complete amateur leadership :( 
 Extensive work to satisfy the client (slavery does exist), overtime work with no compensation nor appreciation. I do not want to start talking about the chaos and utter unprofessionalism and I would love to stay working here ONLY if I see some changes! 

Advice to Management: Be Human and train your so-called "managers"

I have been teaching a foreign language for almost a year. I have so far witnessed Overt and implied threats of termination at every corner; Being " hawked" "watched" and micromanaged by management. Teachers are overworked, under-compensated and not appreciated by management
While you are indeed entrusted with many responsible tasks that can help you grow as a teacher, you are given very little if indeed any support from the management - thus all the growth that's happening is a result of you learning by trial and error, from your own mistakes and sadly, sometimes, to the detriment of your students, your dedicated employees and thus your company.

What is the best part of working at the company?
Teaching adults students - diplomats - is rewarding. You learn about the world and you introduce your own culture to other people. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Not having one of those fancy coffee machine that makes 6 types of fancy coffee. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Fast-paced, multi-cultural, focus on business growth and quality of services. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Depending on the project, preparing materials for class, greeting your student/students, reviewing assignments, teaching various class, preparing for final proficiency tests.

Incoming staff often have no work experience (hired out of nepotism) , and therefore require significant training to become fully effective. Despite this reality, "top" management is not willing to invest in developing and training and counseling bad managers. This creates a vicious cycle of turnover: employees leave because they are frustrated with lack of training, and managers treat employees like they are just passing through.
Advice to Management
invest in training new employees and managers; especially when it comes to spending tax payers dollars, transparency and accountability MUST prevail: unfortunately in this company they are nonexistent.

I have been working full-time ( a little more than a year as a developer in Arlington) I have been suffering every day. I cannot believe it every day is a new drama, a new turmoil new negativity...I am daily searching for new positions to flee this mess.  It looks like the company has a huge issue with EEO guidelines...(harassment, nepotism, ...etc)

Try to be more proactive rather than reactive train your employees and "so-called: selective" managers"

Ability to choose curriculum, working online, workshops

Limited hours. It would be nice if there were more online classes.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Good. People are respectful of others and eager to help.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Teaching online entails working from home. I imagine it's different if you go to the office to teach.
