IFB Solutions was nice to work for because the people were for the most part friendly. The pay was a bit low, but it was decent. There was little opportunity to advance in the company as a sewing machine operator or working in other production departments. Advancement happened for some people, but many VIP's, or visually impaired people, were still doing similar work 10 or 20 years later. There is the ability to cross-train on different machines and in different departments, but you don't really move up in the company for the most part. Also, there are a few people there that can be difficult to deal with, but not much is done about it because their attendance was so good for years, so a lot gets overlooked. I do like that they have events around holidays, such as Thanksgiving lunches, catered lunches from different restaurants for holidays and birthdays, and other fun activities. They even have a Halloween parade. They also offer profit-sharing at the end of the year, which is very nice. 

Very little place to park and had little help learning where was acceptable, Staff not very helpful. Management doesn't use their time properly as there was a severe lack of work or extreme bias for who could work. 10 hour shifts, janitorial services would be rude and insult employees for using the bathroom, even addressing the issue nothing was done, in fact it got worse. Towards the end of my employment they sent me home multiple times due to lack of work and then fired me for sending me home. The Resource (one of the temp agencies you must go through) was very little help at all even after explaining what happened it was still deemed a fault of my own. Wages were not up to standard and multiple wages for the same job were different. DO NOT WORK HERE UNLESS YOU ABSOLUTELY HAVE TO.

Located inside the va hospital so parking is ALWAYS terriable. you typically come in and have veterans waiting some for over an hour to be fitted for glasses. Managment was very poor,favoritism was shown to certain employees and poor judgement was used often for example leaving 3 associates to take care of the optical department when more then twenty doctors were seeing veterans. Co-workers were awesome and always willing to help when needed.Hardest part of the job was never knowing exactly when you would be home in the afternoon because you were required to stay until the last veteran was taken care of. The most enjoyable part was serving the veterans with all their eye care needs and working with co-workers.

It's a nice place to work. You get to see and learn how they make a lot of things that they sell right there on sight. For example the glasses, mattresses, Military Uniforms, Scissors, T-Shirts, etc. You have a little fun. And a lot of the Supervisors are really  Helpful. Sometimes (1) department might run out of work and we could go work in another department, which was fun because you were learning something new
like how to make scissors, or cut the lens to make the eyeglasses, or how to put the lens in the glasses frame and put the little screws in them so that they will stay together

A not-for-profit organization for the benefit of the blind and visually impaired, lacks in the development and improvement of it's employees with regard to either wages or personal development despite high profit margins. The overall corporation is of noble intent, but the Little Rock location is ruled by ineptitude and hubris to the detriment of it's valuable employee base.

Providing quality training and employment for totally blind or visually impaired people is the "Mission" of IFB-Solutions.  They do an excellent job at this.  The products that the totally blind or visually impaired employees produce are of high quality.  They meet or exceed the government quality standards per the contracts.

It is a great place to work.

I have worked for several nonprofits, and the Asheville location of IFB Solutions ranks at the top. The environment is caring and the leadership here in Asheville is exceptional. I feel supported in my role, and I have made lasting friendships with my coworkers. I recommend this workplace to anyone looking for meaningful employment with an organization that cares for your wellbeing. The Asheville plant has a great workplace culture and is supportive of employee needs. Asheville has a very team oriented environment and is a wonderful place to work.

Come in at 7a.m take your first break at 10 to 10:15 get back started after break work till lunch at 12:15 to 12:45 get back to work after lunch next break at 3pm to 3:15 get back to work until 5:30

Staffing was tight; had to work extra hours.

Management allowed you to be productive.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Very busy between emails and meetings and working on assignments. Day goes by fast. This is positive.

This company only cares about looking good in the public eye, but they treat the majority of their blind employees poorly. The HR department is the most corrupt and untrustworthy. If you go to them in confidence about something you can bet every department will know by the end of the day. The directors and executives (with a handful of exceptions) only care about lining their own pockets and not the welfare of the employees that make it possible for them to have their job in the first place.
