 I started this job genuinely excited to begin my career as a CNA. I was passionate about helping people, and I hoped this role would help me decide if nursing was the right long-term path for me. Unfortunately, my experience here was so overwhelmingly negative that it not only severely burn me out, but completely changed my mind about staying in healthcare.

The turnover rate here is  high. People call in every single day, on every single floor, which leaves staff short almost every shift. Most days I was left alone with 27 high-acuity patients. This was the norm here . It gets exhausting and old very quickly! 

Nurses rarely help with anything. They frequently sit at the front desk on their phones while lights are going off nonstop. Instead of working as a team, many of them rush out of rooms so they don’t have to assist with lifting, changing, or basic care. 

 Nearly all majority of  patients require full care. Only one or two are even semi-independent most times . The high acuity level makes the workload unreasonable and unsafe which means constant call-lights . The patients here at this facility are extremely needy and constantly on their call-lights every second  . You spend more time running from call light to call light than providing real care. It’s  tiring ,  it’s inhumane and it’s unsafe for both staff and residents. 

As a brand new CNA, I was given one day of training. After one rushed day, I was thrown onto the floor alone for two full shifts. I felt so alone and in this by myself . I basically had to learn a lot of things on my own. The staff here just don’t care . They’re just trying to get through their shifts and cover their own butt !  Then I asked to be trained again . Even then, my second round of “training” ended with the CNA leaving early and me again working alone. It’s so chaotic and unpredictable. 

Management is rarely involved. They don’t check in, they don’t support staff, and they don’t address the core issues. The only time they speak up is when complaints come in. Instead of fixing the unsafe staffing levels, they threaten write-ups for calling in, even though burnout is the root issue. Management will guilt-trip you for calling out instead of addressing the issues of their staff being burnt out . They constantly burn out their good CNAs, and instead of improving conditions, they simply replace them with new hires who eventually burn out too. It’s a constant cycle that’s never going to change.  Leadership here is very poor and they don’t fix the problems that actually needs to be addressed such as their employees well-being . All they care about is numbers and to look good for state . 

Be prepared to be left on your own with no support and rarely any help.  As a CNA , I was called into the room for every little thing. Things that nurses or even other staff members could help with but they choose not to. The workload in this facility is already heavy, demanding, and emotionally draining. Not having any help is just the icing on the cake.  CNA’s are the ones responsible for everything. If a fall risk patients falls ? CNAs are the scapegoats for everything. Your license is at risk even more working at this facility . 

This job turned me into someone I didn’t recognize. I went from being passionate and motivated to emotionally numb, exhausted, and overall just hating my job.  I knew that’s when it was time for me to go .  It followed me home and affected my personal life. Ultimately, this facility made me decide I want nothing to do with nursing anymore. 

The workload here is an absolute nightmare. In fact, it’s inhumane. Management knows how much you’re drowning and how much you have to get done,  yet you’re still expected to do it all and if you don’t, you’re going to be threatened to be written up. Also, another big thing is you’re not even using majority of the skills that you learned in CNA school such as taking vitals because they have the medication aids doing it. So I felt like my role was just reduced to doing all the dirty work that nobody else wanted to help or do and that can also affect your passion for doing this type of work.

I would not recommend this place for anyone to work at. I would run as fast as you can . you’ve been warned! This place will burn out so quickly and  they do not appreciate nor value good workers here . Also I Just wanted to say  this , the positive reviews that you see here does not match my experience and things I have witnessed at this facility. They all seem suspicious, considering the fact that staff leave at a high rate at this facility just saying. 

Sorry, I’m long winded, but stick with me. I feel this is incredibly important information for someone who will be using the company insurance for chronic conditions/monthly meds. 

I just came on in January 2025. I was dazzled by the (all but written) promise of full time hours. The two SNFs I’ve worked for over the last 8 years have struggled to fill a full time schedule and eventually cut benefits when they could not get me up to 30 hours a week at the first and couldn’t even get 20 hours a week at the next one I hired on “full time” at. When I saw this company hiring I was willing to make the extra 30 miles round trip drive every day to pay the bills. I had heard good things about the company and they seem to be well respected among many of the hospitals and physicians in the area. And to be fair, I’ve been consistently at 35 hours or more per week since starting. The company seems to care about employee satisfaction overall, at least more so than the other 2 SNFs I’ve worked at over the years. The Superhero in Scrubs program was a major highlight in the hiring process, and genuinely seems like a good program. 

Unfortunately, that brings me to the insurance, which leaves much to be desired. I have been struggling with a chronic condition since I was a teen still be on my parent’s insurance. Between my mom’s insurance back then, and the 4 companies I’ve worked for over the last 20 years (both healthcare and not) to be on my own insurance, I’ve never paid more than $150 per month for my medications. In 20 years, I’ve never had to meet my deductible for medications to be covered at some affordable rate. I ignorantly assumed this was market standard since 4 different companies with varying levels of coverage over my entire adult life have paid in that manner. Unfortunately, since my benefits with BCBS Illinois went into effect March 1st, I learned my meds are not covered until I meet the full $3000 deductible, at which time they drop to mostly covered until I meet my $5000 out of pocket. (I am on the middle of the road tier policy). Additionally, BCBS has myself, my doctor, and the pharmacy jumping through all kinds of hoops to authorize the meds that I’ve been on for years without problems. I think we have finally gotten that all straightened out (I hope). I had to skip a few meds for the first 2 weeks while I figured out what to do. Unfortunately, I ended up having to explain to my oldest nephew that I had to use the $5000 car fund I’d been saving since I got custody of the kids 9 years ago to pay my meds as I was beginning to get sick. It sucked and I hated to do it, but luckily he was understanding. As I have just this month met the $3000, but not yet met the $5000 out of pocket, I still have to pay something per month in meds and I am not sure how many more months it will take to reach it. I also have my first 6 months blood work on this insurance coming up, so I am unsure what the costs associated with that will be. But as a single mom of 4 with no financial support from their biological parents, I am not sure how I will save up the next $3000 once I’ve met the $5000 to afford to begin all over in January without skipping meds again. For me, it seems to be coming out minimally ahead since the hours I’m getting come out to what I believe will be a little over $5000 a year more since I wasn’t getting consistent hours before. But the upfront cost of going from under $200 per month to over $1000 per month is where this insurance is is really gutting me. 

This review is not meant to elicit pity or concern, but warn anyone who has real medical concerns beyond annual screenings and wellness check ups to please do your due diligence in checking into the health benefits unlike myself. This insurance has been a huge unexpected burden on my family. In addition to costing roughly $70 more per month in premiums, I am paying nearly $4000 more per year for the same meds. As I said, for me, I guess I would say it is worth it because I am getting more hours than I would to offset the $5000+ per year loss for now. 

If you are not in the click of co-workers watch out. Very beautiful facility inside and out but management is at times just awful. Never once did I feel I was wanted there and in many cases felt my job was made more difficult than it ever needed to be. When I offered suggestions on how to fix things I was just told that maybe I could not handle the job and was never given enough recourses to succeed. I have many years of experience in the job I was doing but it was always a struggle to manage situations that many times were just unnecessary. I showed up to work everyday on time and gave it everything I had in the end it just wasn't enough. They were always understaffed and never prepared in all areas except for the physical rehab department. It was very few far and between that co workers ever had anything positive to say on a daily basis and would often quit after just a few weeks. The turnover rate was worse than I have ever seen anywhere else with management always stating that is was the employees fault and never took accountability or took into consideration what the employee was trying to convey about their concerns about working there, always stating that said employee just could not handle the job or was just not a good fit. Many times that just was not the case and many good people walked off the job or were simply let go. In my case I was called into the HR office mid shift and was let go, they stated very clearly that it was not a good fit and they wanted to go in a different direction with my position. The management at Ignite told many residents and staff that I had simply quit with no warning leaving them in a very tough position, that was just simply not the case and a out right lie. Ignite even went as far to tell Unemployment that in fact I rage quit mid shift with no warning leaving them with out a staff member in my department at a critical time, also a out right lie. The good side is there are some very good people working there that care very much for the residents staying there and the pay is very good. Another bonus is that there is a Starbucks in the facility, Other than that I will say I was so happy to return to my old job for lesser pay and less stress. I try to forget that I ever worked there in the first place, but to each their own.  

Ignite medical resort located in downtown Kansas City on rainbow boulevard is a two floor medical facility with long-term care on the third floor and rehabilitation on the 4th. Things can be fast paced on the 4th floor with admissions and discharges happening throughout the week creating a turnover in residence where the typical stay is 30 days or less. Employees have a uniform issue to them and are given a welcome gift assortment at orientation. there are plenty of hours available, in the building runs on 12-hour shifts currently. As with any job showing up on time and working your shift is foundation to keeping your job and this place is no different. You will stay busy taking care of the residents and the staff to resident ratio is acceptable although there are shifts where they are down a person or two which is to be expected during this national healthcare shortage. Staffing is usually two or three nurses with a med tech/CMA and three CNAs which is enough to get through the shift satisfactorily. The building is located downtown with a parking garage next to it and additional parking in the adjoining parking lot in the shared parking area. There are plenty of places to get food nearby if you're working day shift and several places deliver if not there is also doordash for the night shift. This place is no worse than any other and I can see that the management are trying. I'd recommend working here if you're interested in getting paid what you are worth and in getting hours and overtime on a consistent basis should you want it.

They talked a good game in orientation, but it was just that talk. They don't care about staff or the residents, 1 resident barely gets out the door and another has taken their place , which is fine but no consideratiin for what time they come, first there is only 1 aide on each hall, never fails as soon as the dinner comes so does the new admit, which means the only aide now has to help get the new person settled in leaving the dinner trays undelivered, its not a true rehab, residents admitted are tube feeders people who have no legs ir arms ones that need fed ir cant speak. They dont care how hard staff works they only care aboit lining their pockets with money. They are constanly asking us to work on our day off but no incentive to give up your free time to help them.  They promise new admits and their families things to get them in there and expect staff to deliver oroblem is they have no communication so when the families are mad because their promises werent met we are left standing there like idiots cause we had no clue. We work 12 hour shifts but cant have 1 free meal. God forbid you have an emergency on a weekend you work, its dosent matter if you have never called in they will force you to work on your weekend off. They have no regard for seniority so when tbey hire too many med techs, which they always do, they will nove you out of a spotyou have worked for along time to accomidate the others. No sense of appreciation at all.

What I Believe I Learned
I learned the importance of adaptability, effective communication, and teamwork. Every situation in the workplace presents an opportunity to grow, and I discovered that listening, being open to feedback, and maintaining a positive attitude are essential for both personal and professional development.

The hardest part of the job was managing multiple responsibilities while maintaining high standards. Balancing priorities and meeting deadlines required discipline, organization, and the ability to remain calm under pressure.

The most enjoyable part of the job was collaborating with others and seeing the impact of our work. Working with a supportive team and accomplishing shared goals brought a sense of fulfillment and purpose

I don’t know about the one in the city but the one in norman is horrible. Management is the worst they will yell at you for things you can’t control or for reasons that’s not your fault. Only 2 or 3 people will show you respect and that’s the people lower than you. All the higher ups are disrespectful but expect you to be respectful of them. They talk down to you constantly. They don’t care if you’re on the floor by yourself on a 2 person assist hall, they will put you with a trainee that has no idea about being a CNA on a 2 person assist hall. Then when you ask for help they will tell you the nurses are suppose to help you but the nurses are drowning in their own stuff they have to do and then some of them are just too lazy they will find every excuse to not help you but does management care about that? Nope. Not their problem. They will work you like a dog and then talk down on you and expect you to show up everyday happy and with a smile. 
Overall, I was miserable at this place. The patients get neglected all the time because they don’t have enough staff or because nobody cares enough. They can’t keep enough staff because people get tired of being talked to like they are stupid. The best thing I did was leave this place!! 

It is nothing different from any other skilled nursing facility. I gave job security a 4 because it's impossible to get fired. "Bodies on the floor" are all they care about. Also they will promote anyone who plays up the right members of the management team, even without experience. It seems for some you aren't required to do your job, you just have to show up. Work like balance isn't too bad if you work your scheduled 12 hours shifts without picking up anything extra. They will work you on your shift so likely when you get home you will be too tired to do much else. Pay is better than most, but they don't offer much for bonuses and you shouldn't expect much for recognition awards or holidays. Management is typical, they are nice to you when they need something from you, or if they are looking for a social media photo op. About the only time they are supportive is when state is in the building or on their way. They prioritize the census over all patient levels of care.  Floor staff seems to carry no real value to the facility either. But as I said in the summary, it's what you would expect. 

I have had a very positive experience working as a CNA at Ignite Medical Resorts. The facility prioritizes compassionate, patient-centered care and values teamwork across all departments. Every day, I feel supported by my colleagues and leadership, and there is a strong culture of collaboration between nursing, therapy, and support staff.

Management is approachable and genuinely interested in employee feedback. They strive to create a respectful and professional environment, and they recognize hard work and dedication. Training and ongoing development are emphasized, which has helped me grow both technically and personally as a caregiver.

The most rewarding part of working here is seeing patients make real progress — lwhether it’s regaining mobility, improving daily living skills, or simply smiling more during their stay. Patients and families express their appreciation often, which makes the job truly fulfilling.

Overall, Ignite Medical Resorts is a great place to work if you care about making a difference, enjoy a team-oriented culture, and want opportunities to learn and grow in your healthcare career.
