extremely clique-ish environment and people who started back in infancy stage were consistently pushed further up to management and director levels without being given critically necessary training in how to properly function in his or her new roles....I still suffer with PTSD from how badly I ended up being treated by my superior...one day I was a BFF and as things very rapidly changed within the company I was left in the dark and specifically excluded from critical training that my growing job description absolutely demanded....then after having realized the poor management decisions this superior  made, I was given a hasty 3 day training of technical software applications that another person in my group had close to 2 years of training on...then when my Around the World in a Day training fell short in getting me up to speed fast enough and my depression deepened and my small-bit work load that was about as appealing and motivating as watching Pong on a 13" black and white screen, I was thrown away like garbage half way through the probationary period I was in, having had zero idea there was even going to be a half way mark which would have greatly affected my motivation level...I have since lost everything due to untreatable MDD/PTSD, terrible ADHD and am getting ready to embark on hopefully rebuilding my life with the desperately needed help from SSDI.  I will never again make the mistake of falling prey to a controlling supervisor who very early on took an extremely unprofessional and meddling interest in my personal life and alarmingly quite frequently had inappropriate advice and criticism as to my personal choices and plans.  I am an extremely social person and found no more than 1 or 2 people there whom I can say I genuinely liked - the rest were back stabbing, self-absorbed, out-for-themselves phonies and the salaries some of these people were making to sit around in BS session meetings all day is truly blasphemous, IMO.

Incyte offers great benefits and PTO (4 weeks to start) plus they are closed between Christmas and New Year. All employees receive stock and can participate in the Employee Stock Purchase Plan.

As with most companies, your experience and advancement will vary by department and your direct manager. My direct manager was controlling, did not value me, and was very critical. Despite being a Director level, my position was very tactical and administrative heavy. No growth or learning opportunities after mastering the job. It became tedious, boring and draining. 

In R&D they are "innovative" but most of the corporate functions are behind the times/old school and closed minded. Internally, the company lacks true vision, defined values, and strategy. A few people in upper management are rigid and holding the company back in a lot of ways. 

No development and it was never clear how to be promoted. Annual raise is basically the same across the company (3%) every year no matter how hard you work or exceed your goals.

No company-wide work from home or Flex Fridays in the summer. Upper management/HR will say we do not have WFH or Flex Fridays (and never will, despite a lot of employees asking for it). But then you hear/notice, a lot of people WFH and/or leaving early on Fridays in the summer. It's unfair and demoralizing if you work for someone who doesn't allow that kind of flexibility/benefit.

Did not care for working at the Wilmington location. Good onsite subsidized cafe but not much around the campus if you like to go out to eat or run errands during lunch.

Despite the benefits, stock, and PTO, I would not recommend working here.

Very pleasant, laid-back working conditions with a culture of intelligent people. One troubling aspect is the company is largely driven by a contract workforce that in many situations is overextended. Traditionally a company would onboard contingents with the prospect of hiring in three to six months or even a year. However, not Incyte. A disproportionate number of workers stay on for extended periods, and often in IT roles for years in anticipation of a job offer that never materializes. Incyte executives stress the necessity of a low [employee] headcount in order to raise the revenue per employee ratio to appease investors. In general a great place for a starting professional, but unless hired from the get-go, be prepared for a sudden departure. Contingents do not get to enjoy the many perks such as a 401K, stock grants, maternity leave, the mostly-free health care benefits, the forty-five PTO days off and the occasional ice cream truck dispensing free ice cream.

When I was hired I started in the off site warehouse. I was responsible for receiving daily freight. I would then put the freight into stock in the warehouse. I would then take orders from the main campus and deliver the to multiple buildings on our campus. I was also responsible for weekly cycle counts. I was later transfered to the main buildings dock where I was responsible for the on site shipping and receiving. I was responsible for the whole dock and everything associated with it. I was later promoted to Data Center Operations where I installed servers and fiber optic lines. I maintained a clean work envirnonment and enjoyed working for Incyte very much. The managers were great and afforded me the oppurtunity to learn something new. I enjoyed the responsibility and trust Incyte gave me and I am forever grateful.

Good health insurance. Free drinks all weekdays and free lunch on Friday. Salary is competitive to the industry standard. Employees were given stocks as part of the package and entitled to purchase stocks at a discounted rate. 

Research here is kind of old school but solid. It would take long working hours for hard-core and talented researchers to accomplish something (though it may based on projects). 

Management, especially mid-level managers are critical to your experience here. They are the ones lead the project and shape the working culture you are in. I have personally witnessed a number of questionable decisions turning motivated and intelligent workers away.   

While pay is generous on par with other biopharm companies, culture and leadership is lacking.  Good benefits and meaningful products are undermined by weak leadership turning a blind eye to the benefits of diversity, promoting the same favorites vs many others with much more talent, and not trusting employees to work remotely more than 1 day a week - stuck in the dark ages, not innovative, not respectful, not inclusive.  Old school pharma executives with lack of self awareness loose top talent as they are busy secretly throwing other executives and their people under the bus to get themselves ahead, not smart enough to realize that diverse people and perspectives with proper leadership can propel the organization to new heights. 

Seeing docs daily, lots of lunches with offices, difficult culture to work in due to the local and regional leadership, lots of infidelity and  some leaders who were extremely underqualified, the products were great though and there were still some great people working work with there.   Lots of turnover on our team because of the regional management..  So many people I worked with just a year ago are already gone or planning on leaving.  I am relieved to be out of that environment and felt like the increased benefits did not outweigh the poor culture which I left.

There are many smart and wonderful people at the company but as other reviewers note, there are a lot of challenges with executive leadership.  Decision making is eratic, there is a heavy focus on working in the office at the expense of other important initiatives and the company experiences more than its fair share of commercial and clinical failures which is tough on morale.  There is such a strong fear of becoming "big pharma" that many of the basic principles of an effective organization are missing - a clear mission,  coordination,  planning, development, etc.  It is frustrating because it feels like a big mess and it could be so much better. 

Leadership is most concerned with having employees in the office at least 4 days a week rather than meeting its mission of helping patients with unmet needs (or providing any return for investors).  Company performance has only gotten worse in the last 5 years, yet everyone in charge keeps their jobs (and millions of dollars) while they preach accountability to the people who are actually on the ground working.  They are going to lose every dedicated, motivated and hard working employee and all that will be left are the ineffective ones who love going to the office every day.  


Sadly, this company is crumbling. Management is an unprofessional joke, allowing favoritism and unethical practices from “top” performers. Yet the executive team lets them run the show. Which breeds noncompliance, yet they preach how important compliance is to them. You can’t take this company seriously.  They turn a blind eye to some employees and micromanage the hard working employees. Bonus structure is unattainable, so they don’t have to pay. I wouldn’t waste my time on Incyte, their future isn’t as bright as they act like it is.
