A typical day of work includes emails, phone meetings and video conferences where discussions are had about various services the regional centers provide for families. The main line of work involves social work and serving families in the developmentally disabled community. This includes individuals such as infants and young children, all the way up to adults and seniors.

I've been in two different departments at the five years I've been working there and have experience in the administrative and clinical side of serving these families. This company can provide fulfilling work, especially when families come back and share their unending gratitude for helping them.

The workplace culture here is very unique and there have not been too many issues regarding employee relations. Most of the supervisors and directors here wish for each of their employee's success and pay much attention to the needs and complaints said about workloads. Keep in mind, this is a government-funded agency so regarding pay scales, it is much lower compared to private companies who pay more. With that said, workload can be cumbersome but there is much support for all employees especially new hires joining the organization. 

The hardest part of the job is staying organized so that the work does not become too cumbersome.

A typical day at work is arriving at the office to check missed calls, emails and review your schedule for the day as in how many clients you'll be seeing. If you have a service to request or a difficult case that you need advice on you may seek out your Program Manager before leaving for the field. I learned that individuals with developmental disabilities have great potential and rise to the level of expectation given to them by providing them with the necessary resources. The co-workers are great for debriefing and when you need a laugh. The hardest part of my job is putting in a lot of work to help a client and they behave in a way that is damaging to their reputation or they lose out on an opportunity based on their poor choices. The most enjoyable is making a difference and empowering individuals with developmental disabilities.

Every other Friday off and the wonderful consumers and their family’s.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Upper management disconnected from employees (notice how they used to be employer of the year several years in a row and not anymore - not a coincidence), lack of respect from management, dictatorship, high caseloads, new systems that don’t work, favoritism in promotion, employees are a dime a dozen in their minds and they’re right. They can’t get quality now so they’re pulling the bottom of the barrel. I would run from this employer not walk.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Watch your back. Don’t ever state your opinion. Kiss butt if you want to get in and if you want to move up.

Workloads are increasing by the day, so you will learn new and exciting things that serve a higher purpose of helping others. The atmosphere and the benefits are great. This is a good work environment to teach you about hard work and and keeping up with the pace with tons of administrative duties. The downside is that the pay is very  low and there is no room for advancement. The caseload are high and the job is very stressful keeping up with the ever changing demands of the consumers they serve. Management will empathize with your stress, but no changes are often made to innovate and make processes more effecient from administration.  The worst part of this job is that the processes are not effecient. The employees are doing the same task multiple times which takes away from other task and effectively servicing the consumers needs.

Everything here is very political, it is very difficult for people to get in because priorities seem to land on family members of management. It’s very high school, full of gossip and management turns a blind eye unless they are directly affected. If you ever do speak up about heavy workloads or unfair management upper management will ignore the facts and proceed as of nothing was said. If you dare speak up be prepared to not be able to promote or get rehired. Initially, I thought working here would be a dream but there is no discipline or actual management going on, it is truly sad to endure and witness.

This was a personally enriching place to work as a case manager. The most rewarding aspect of this job was the advocacy I was able to perform, in the assisting of my client's to live as independently as possible. I was able to bring my clinical skills to the fore in order to ensure that my consumers were experiencing a quality of life that was not only personally enriching, but gave them the opportunity to realize their own self actualization.

Isolated and independent , everything is learn as you go and constantly changing.

Its a it’s a wonderful opportunity to work with and get employed as a consumer services coordinator, case manager for the intermediate care facilities, dealing with autism, developmentally, disabled and subacute cases with medical conditions, not verbal and verbal from adults to senior to adolescence , Advocacies. Making a difference in the clients we served and a lot for like ACT as liason for the DH and Licensing Agencies with the Govt

self fulfillment, the joy it brings when the clients smile and thankful for your presence.

very cohesive. Everyone works as part of the team.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
satisfactory. Feeling of joy in serving humanity.

The job has changed so much with COVID and it has been adjusted. I learned to make collaborations with vendors, assess and provide resources to our clientele. If you are happy with the long term then the job is pretty secure as long as you do your work. The only problem is that advancement requires favoritism so if you're not buddy-buddy with the other bosses, then you probably will remain where you are.
