A worthy mission to serve elderly with multiple services and disciplines in a "one-stop-shop" is gravely undermined by a demoralizing work culture. Talented and dedicated staff are minimized with punitive, underhanded management styles and personalities whose control needs consistently dampen staff enthusiasm and devalue professional commitment and talents. Capable, professional people who should be promoted internally are overlooked by management. Furthermore, corporate leaders from Colorado fail to effectively monitor and remedy these situations, being more concerned with making a cookie-cutter franchise than building an effective, grassroots team in Southern California.

Participants (members) in the InnovAge PACE program are quick to realize when they aren't a good fit for the services offered, but are then subjected to prolonged resistance by InnovAge management to prolong disenrollment from the program. As a result, many participants face interrupted or diminished medical care while staff find themselves frustrated at a system with management interventions that impede participant rights to access healthcare of their need and choice.

For me, personally, it was the most rewarding group of direct-line professionals to know and work alongside while being the most frustrating administrative environment in which to do it! I could not in good conscience recommend employment here to a friend, even though I remained there for three years hoping and working for improvements.

1, A Typical Day At Work:
I would set up Appointments and transportation for patients I would also answer all phone calls, verbal and written communication 
Take any messages if needed.. The biggest key is (TEAM WORK)! 
 
2, What I Learned:
What I do to understand my work environment.  Allow myself to further challenge myself and by achieving and applying academic knowledge into practice by building, my confidence in the work environment with others.
Bridge the gap between university and the world of work.
 
3, Management:
Communication and listing between employees and Management, is the number one key. To have trust in there employees to do there job well done. Respect of being able to work with minimal Supervision, Successful in finding and training new talent. Time management

4, Your Co-Workers:
I pass my common courtesy to all my co-workers, along from them learning from me as well me learning from them. 
I also respect other co-workers time.
I like to work in a respectful healthy environment, along with team 
work effort. Being a Caring person and having a lot of patients and Trust. 

5, The Hardest Part Of The Job:
Trying to Understand and being caring knowing that there is a lot of NEGATIVE!, that makes it hard.... 
Trying to make other people happy when no matter what you do is UNSUCCESSFUL! To them. 

6, The Most Enjoyable Part Of The Job:
"The interaction, the challenges, the never ending focus on ensuring that what you and your team are doing has an impact on the business, including the families and patients that I/we can impact on there lives. 
If you get it wrong, the consequences can be severe, but, if you get it right, the rewards are so much bigger. Is putting a smile on a persons face this is including my wonderful patients. 
Problem solving and creative thinking.

During my time at Innovage I learned very quickly that this company is very manager top heavy. That in turn makes it difficult for any one who is a “worker bee” to get anything done due to the fact that people at the C suite level need to be involved with everything decision, every move and every pay decision… which in turn creates an environment of distrust and animosity. We tired to address these concerns with leadership and they turned a blind eye. Innovage will hold it over your head that you should be so lucky to work here, and that during Covid you should be grateful, but the sad truth is leadership will be compensated for your hard work... not you. Innovage has a massive turn over percentage and no managers are held accountable for their actions. It in turn trickles down the rest of the staff which then puts pressure on them to feel like we are not preforming the job duties as best as we can, as well as not being able to have the correct tools to do said job. Innovage will trip over dollars to pick up pennies when it comes to their tools and then get angry at their staff because things are not working how they should be. 

Innovage has an amazing mission and I truly believe in what they stand for, but they have a very old school mind mentality when it comes to running a company and growing a company. They will never be competitive with pay, they will never address turn over, and they will never hold their managers accountable for their actions when they lose a bunch of front line center staff.  And that in turn will be their down fall.


Typical workday is talk to the participants in the morning, prepare activities or crafts, execute activities or crafts. Clean up move tables/chairs, help serve lunch. After lunch tear down tables/chairs when needed, clean up lunch and execute next activity or craft. End of the day have a trivia game or other activity until around 3. 
I learned some information when I would present a trivia game, create an activity with a PowerPoint that would be presented to the participants and how to create new and fun crafts.
Management is awful. They give everyone a "coaching" no matter which department may have made an error. The management is nice one day and, on a rampage, the next day.
Work culture - High School atmosphere at best. Everyone (even the participants) talks about everyone.
The hardest part of the job was trying to stay ahead of the crafts, activities and outings for the participants. It was a lot to do in a short time frame. We did have a lot of meetings, which didn't help my need to research and create activities and crafts. Also, there were a few co-workers who would not follow the way I designed a craft or activity. They would CUT CORNERS every chance they had and tell me things like "the participants aren't going to be able to do that." Also, management telling you the craft was childish or cheap didn't help when you could only spend a total of $200 per month. 
The most enjoyable part of the job was when the participants would thank me for doing the craft and they were happy with what they made. 



This is the worst place to work if you value your career. First, these clowns tried to get me to change my signed offer letter the 3rd day of my new hire orientation!!! I quit. The VP of HR and the chief medical officer called and negotiated my return. I was given more money to return. Another issue I expressed, besides the slick maneuver of changing my offer letter, there was no formal coding policy. I was hired as an auditor, but they tried to make me an auditor and production coder. These people terminated the contract with an outside coding vendor. Once the contract was over, they wanted me to begin coding and submitting charge tickets from visits. I refused because it wasn't why I was hired and there is no formal company coding policy. I raised this issue tirelessly while I was there, but they provided lip service only. After weeks of back and forth, I decided to quit again. The senior coding analyst is a passive/aggressive control freak who never answers any questions directly and gives you absolutely no support in your role. Any input given by the senior coding analyst is useless and further complicates any issue you have raised. The chief medical officer is new and is afraid of the senior coding analyst. The work environment is toxic as heck and your actual work is an uphill battle. The presentation is nice, but once you are hired, the whole situation changes.

I was the “Dental Director” for this company for the 8 “clinics” that InnovAge offered. My supervisor was a physician who knew nothing about dentistry and continually left me unsupported. The least amount of dentistry is what was told to me for everyone. The pay was ridiculously low and was only compensated for by mediocre benefits.
No dental software for appointments, X-ray units too close together and on a different software program that you had to email X-rays between computers even in the same office,  no materials to work with and hot conditions in the offices.  One very poor assistant per doctor (unless you managed to be the favorite dentist), and 15 patients in a four hour period. The patients were difficult as they were all medically compromised and overmedicated by the physicians.
There was no billing to insurances (or so they said), but the company is not a non-profit. It’s run by 4 men in New York with a great deal of money and no desire to help the aged patients within these facilities.
Stay away from working in this company. It is corporate owned and just like all other corporate dentistry practices: corrupt and unable to see anything beyond making money.

The day kicks off with a high volume of emails which consist of several assisted living facilities and nursing homes that require assistance on billing, claims issues, under/over payments and general concerns.  Some of these emails house spreadsheets of claims that require adjustments and in-depth research.  In the meantime while handling these complex questions, I continue to take regular claim status phone calls, enter in new mail claims and assist team members with any questions.  A big part of my position requires me to rebuild many broken relationships between Innovage and the facility and clean up any outstanding issues.  I managed to learn fairly quickly after starting the position that the communication was nonexistent in the past between the facilities and Innovage.  I really enjoyed helping the providers out and seeing the change in the outlook from them which I was being recognized for my efforts from both internal and external customers while gaining the support and enocouragement from my team.  The fast pased environment requires following through with commitments, attention to detail, great interpersonal and organizational skills and most importantly a positive attitude.

If a clearly defined, structured job and organized and accountable cross-functional experience is important to you, read no more and move on to a different company. What you can expect to experience here:
• No SOP’s (Standard Operating Procedures)
• Constant Turnover
• Very Sr. Management top heavy (often lacking in industry experience and an interest in knowing or understanding the root cause of issues that need to be worked through and resolved)
• Serious IT tech and data issues
• An IT group that is not business centric and is lacking in important areas of competencies needed to support the whole organization
• Serious compliance issues and a history of failed audits and a current suspension 
• Stock is dropping like a rock 
• Dominate Democratic ideologies openly promoted (Conservatives beware!)
• Focused on a Vax compliance % of employees and participants while blatantly disregarding objections based on religious freedom, medical privacy, civil rights etc. “Get Vaxed or get Termed.” (Obviously concerned about an agenda other than true care of employees or participants)
• People are either supportive, collaborative and helpful or straight up mean!

What could possibly go wrong??  Apply at your own risk and if you do, invest in a healthy cooping mechanism and a good therapist!

A typical work day starts with meeting with the IDT if you are part of it and then scrambling to get everything ready for the day if you ran out of time the day before. Then your supposed to have a daily meeting with your manager and team to discuss any potential barriers in the day and who may be leaving site and it never happens. We’re also supposed to have a weekly debriefing where we try and troubleshoot any problems that came up in the week and try to make the next week better and really work as a team but again it never happens unless someone has almost died. The manager is absent and even when they are supposed to be available they’re not. It also doesn’t do any good to talk to HR because they are also overworked, overwhelmed, and underpaid. The program if it has people that cared could be really good but so many things slip through the cracks because they take on too many clients before they have the staff to manage the growing workload. If they paid better and offered more support if could be a really great place to work but when you are being assigned work that your manager is supposed to be doing and your not making anywhere close to that it is just overwhelming and suffocating.
