What is the best part of working at the company?
I rarely leave negative reviews, but I feel it is important to speak honestly about my experience working for this agency. Although the organization serves predominantly BIPOC communities, I did not feel that the same level of care and urgency was consistently extended toward protecting the nurses and patients within those communities.

In my experience, there were repeated concerns involving safety, support in the field, communication, and overall working conditions that made it difficult to feel adequately protected as a clinician. Home health nurses often work independently in unpredictable environments, and strong leadership, responsiveness, and safety protocols are essential. Unfortunately, I did not personally feel those standards were consistently prioritized.

Patient care and staff wellbeing should always come before productivity or staffing demands. I hope the agency takes employee feedback seriously and invests more into creating a safer and more supportive environment for both patients and healthcare workers.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The most stressful part of working as a psychiatric home health per diem nurse was often the lack of consistent support while managing high-acuity patients independently in the community. Nurses are expected to make critical clinical decisions in unpredictable environments, sometimes with limited resources, communication gaps, or safety concerns in the field. 

Balancing patient needs, documentation requirements, travel demands, and crisis management while ensuring both patient and personal safety could be extremely challenging. The role requires a high level of emotional resilience, adaptability, and clinical judgment, especially when working with vulnerable populations in underserved communities.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
The work culture felt fast-paced and heavily task-oriented, with a strong emphasis on productivity and maintaining coverage needs. While there were staff members who were supportive and compassionate, there were times when communication, consistency, and overall support for field clinicians could have been stronger. 

As a per diem psychiatric home health nurse, the role often felt very independent, which can be both a strength and a challenge. In my experience, there was limited emphasis on collaboration, staff wellbeing, and creating an environment where nurses consistently felt heard, protected, and supported while working in high-stress community settings.

What is the best part of working at the company?
It is an ‘All Hands on Deck’ approach from Senior Mgmt down, which has the most positive ‘go team’ effect I have ever seen in any organization. I was impressed with how the non-clinical departments were revered as just as valuable as the clinical ones. The two worked quite harmoniously together.
 Someone is always available for assistance or to answer any role related questions. The organization went above and beyond to provide accommodations to my specific needs as a staff member.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Where the company covers a large area of Massachusetts, some departments tended to have their own protocols that were not necessarily organization-wide, which became difficult when covering multiple regions/offices. 
However, upon my departure, this was being addressed.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Teamwork oriented from the top down. A fun and fully supportive culture with a sense of inclusivity and sincerity, as opposed to other organizations with that cookie cutter, stale and robotic nature. You really feel valued and, dare I say, cared for.

I helped open their Colorado branch and what I got in return was termination  with no warning and the only reason being: "You're not a good fit for the company". I precepted several new staff while only being about 3 weeks in, and before I received all the training myself. I was told that my shift would be 12-8pm only to often not be finished with assigned tasks until 11pm. I was sent out at night, alone, to visit a new patient past 8pm several times. Training and education was inconsistent and staff were given no assistance until 2 weeks before being let go, despite help being requested on many occasions. Myself and 4 others were fired without notice on the same day. We were asked in a prior meeting to report what we felt needed to happen in the company for us to feel we had all the tools to do our job properly, and it was emphasized that there would be no retaliation for our opinions. We were all respectful, and expressed our want to change things for the better of ourselves and our patients.  Clearly it all fell on deaf ears, and I most certainly feel retaliated against. I was also informed by someone still employed, that my patients and remaining coworkers have been lead to believe that I quit and have abandoned them and it breaks my heart.

During my time at Nizhoni Health Systems I have been able to learn an enormous amount about myself, my management skills, and how creative and innovative the healthcare field really can be. I love my job and the professionals I work with. Everyone is willing to help out and works to find solutions to everyday bottlenecks with an "out of the box" mentality, which is appreciated. 

The work environment from a social aspect is very fun. All the employees take pride in their work and help others when needed. I like that the company appreciates its staff as well-with ice cream parties in the summer, soup parties in the winter and involvement in Community Events. For me, its nice to know you can have fun at work while getting the job done. 

The thingI like most about working at Nizhoni Health Systems is that the culture is fostered for people who want to grown and learn. For myself, its exciting to be involved in working to make the company the best it can be. I like the mentorship and leadership that helps to push their staff for greatness. Its amazing to be involved in such a great workplace.

Feeling part of a team was what I enjoyed the most. I always felt every administrator looked out for all the staff. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The lack of available community support for our clients during the pandemic 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Inclusive, supportive, and welcoming. Until the pandemic started.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
I would complete my skilled nursing visits by a reasonable time of day, but due to lack of community and emotional support for my clients, the clients frequently required additional time per visit. Also, the visit quota increased at this time. This increased the hours spent traveling and assessing clients. I was unable to visit clients and complete nursing notes  causing added stress by a new,  very inexperienced nursing administrator.
I experienced 11 new office administrators in 11 years. Never had an issue until the last one, before I resigned

I have worked at Nizhoni Health for 6 years and have enjoyed every minute of it.  We have a great culture and environment and work with people who truly care about our patients as well as each other.  As a manager, I frequently ask my staff and others what they enjoy most about working at Nizhoni, and everyone says they enjoy the people who work here.  We all work very hard and make sure to help each other out and work as a team.  There is also great opportunities to learn and grow within Nizhoni Health.  We love to promote from within and allow staff the opportunity to learn new functions within the company as well as advance.  The CEO and Leadership Team truly care about the staff and make sure to provide the tools everyone needs in order to provide the best care for our patients.  Overall, it is an amazing place to work!

Pros

Nizhoni is a wonderful place to work and has come a long way since I started over 2 years ago. They offer a relaxed/fun atmosphere (you can wear jeans!), generous time off, fun company events & gatherings, free parking, and easy access to the train are just a few of the perks. The CEO is kind and generous and I’m lucky to work for such an amazing company that truly cares about their employees and the patients.

Cons

Change can be difficult for some, but we are moving in the right direction. There was some turnover in Management but the team they have now is wonderful!

Advice to Management

Keep up the good work!

This is a fantastic job for LPNs. Not so much for RNs. Constant paperwork, phone calls, text messages. You never really feel like you have a day off because the phone will ring, and when you are working it rings long before your shift starts. Most of the extra work done by RNs is not paid for. Admissions often added toward the end of your shift. With the paperwork you end up working over 8 hours a day with all your scheduled patients, notes and extra work added on during your shift. Always seems admissions are added on Friday's and if you work PM shift, there goes your Saturday day off. Holy paperwork. Not to mention the doctors calls and managing care and medications for your patients. The management is really supportive and their vacation time is a great incentive. You will meet a lot of great coworkers and amazing patients though.

The best part of working at Innovive is the collective passion and advocacy for the folks that we serve. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The most stressful part about working at Innovive is the nature of working with folks with complex mental health and behavioral health needs-but that’s why I applied for the job. Stressful yet incredibly rewarding! 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
The work environment and culture is that of one I have never experienced before-in SUCH a positive way! All departments work well together ensuring continuity of care and shared load of work where applicable. Whether it be over Teams or in person, there are always laughs, smiles, and connection!
