Your experience at this agency is highly dependent on your position and which department/unit you are in. I can only speak to HCS service coordination. First and foremost, this is a numbers job. It is_all_about billable contacts. Upper management equates a high number of billable contacts with quality of service and truly believes it is possible to do right by 40-43 high-need individuals residing throughout the community while making your "numbers." A caseload of 30 would be manageable, a caseload of 40+ is not.

It is important to note that upper management have NO experience as Service Coordinators. This makes a big difference - because they have no idea what the job is like day-to-day. They will talk at length about strategies for managing high caseloads, but there is a world of difference between a high caseload of individuals in the community (service coordination) that you have to travel to meet with on top of dealing with the various crises that arise vs. managing a caseload in a clinic/hospital setting, which is where most upper managers are coming from. I've done both - NOT equivalent. Both have challenges, but they are very different. Each month there will be clients who need more of your time for whatever reason. Because you genuinely want to help, you'll need to devote additional (often non-billable) time to them that you would otherwise be spending racking up all-important billable contacts. Because spending hours completing someone's paperwork, dealing with Medicaid, documenting, researching community resources, emailing back/forth, playing phone tag - none of that is billable. 

Your immediate supervisor may be supportive, but upper management are the ones looking over your shoulder & tracking numbers. Micromanagement has increased exponentially over the last year+ and morale has plummeted. The only thing that motivates everyone is trying not to be put on a performance plan or get fired. Learned helplessness creeps in after about 2 months on the job. 

If you're a recent grad or want to get experience serving individuals with IDD, this is a good place to start. The clients themselves are wonderful to work with. Do your best, gain valuable experience, try not to let management get to you - then get out.

I started at this agency to get hours for my license, which I completed and then took a middle management position.  I worked there a total of 7 - 8 years.  My first manager was abusive and this behavior was allowed to continue for a year or two, despite multiple team complaints to HR and staff literally turning over on my small team of 10 within about every 6-8 months.  This prepared me nicely for my next abusive boss who was at a higher level in the agency, and this person has been allowed to abuse people over and over again in a position of power.  HR does not take complaints seriously and you are thrown under the bus at any given moment.  After becoming a manager it became worse since the agency gaslights workers into thinking they can solve the unhoused problem in Austin.  I ended up having to take FMLA and my boss told me in a private Teams call that she "didn't think it was fair for someone else to do my job."  AT A MENTAL HEALTH AGENCY!!!  They do not want leaders or new ideas, they want delegators only and you will blocked from promotions and moving around in the agency.

Other than that, you can enjoy doing double or triple the amount of work you sign up for, driving clients around in your PERSONAL vehicle, not having proper PPE or training to handle difficult situations, unrealistic "face to face" productivity measures, and constant stress.  The best part about the job was the free individual health insurance, which doesn't matter if working there makes you sick/ill to the point that you can't work there anymore.  It's a scheme to keep you trapped in the system, like most jobs in the public sector.

Also, they have somewhat "unionized" in the last year, but salaries minimally increased and the management and licensed positions did not receive any increase, only the QMHP-CS.  That should tell you how bad it is.  They uncovered lots of profits from a NON-PROFIT org that were being used for investments for the higher ups at the agency, among many other things that are just plain the antithesis of respecting human dignity and rights, they can't even do that for their own employees.  RUN!

I worked for Integral Care as a Service Coordinator (later changed to Habilitation Coordinator) for several years. I loved my coworkers, my consumers, and the relationships I built with each of them. That being said- that- is the only thing good about this job. 

If you want to get into PASRR, and use this job for experience--- please don't. It's not worth the struggles with management (the woman who runs the joint). Upper management kick you when you're down and when you try to stand up for yourself, they put you on a Level 1, 2, or 3 warning and inform you that you are running the risk of getting fired. FOR STANDING UP FOR YOURSELF. Instead of fixing what is wrong with the PASRR program- they make the coordinators the issue. Managers themselves never look bad, never get the blame, never get in trouble. It's always the service coordinators. Guess how many coordinators are serving the whole of Travis County nursing facilities right now? 3. That's right. 3. So guess what- these coordinators are overwhelmed, UNDER SUPPORTED, buried under caseloads of over 40 people (probably more now) that they have to see/call a month. 

If you don't like documentation- say- writing a 25 pager each day worth of meeting forms, meeting notes, face-to-face visits, secondary contacts, etc., this job isn't for you. If you don't like being pressured to finish your notes from today, tomorrow (within 24 hours every time), this isn't for you. 

You will lose sleep, cry often, dream of ways of quitting your job each night, receive contradictory direction from management every week, and feel that you are a failure because the work never gets done on time and all the requirements/documentation is just becoming a snowball effect. 

Choose any city except Austin. Again, I love my consumers, but this experience will not be a healthy one for you at all.

Working for ATCIC helped me gain extensive experience in all areas of critical crisis mental health therapy. Since our offices were inside a residential clinic, there was no appointment setting; therefore, my typical day began and ended with chaos and mental health emergencies. It was not a choice but a need to keep everything organized and manage time in order to meet every clients needs, most especially all documentations. 
My typical day began with checking my caseload (of anywhere between 6-10 clients per day) to prioritize who needs to be seen and in what order. Each therapy session with case management and documentation was around 60 minutes or so. I managed passes for clients to fulfill their need for appointments, important or personal errands, walking, etc.... 
In between all the therapy sessions, I managed multiple emergencies dealing with clients behavior issues. 
We attended staff meetings daily for one hour at noon to discuss client cases as a team including counselors, psych nurses, 
psychiatrist, office manager, manager, and team lead. 
I also provided a one hour group therapy session daily in various different topics such as stress management, relapse prevention, recreational therapy, and arts/crafts. 
The most challenging part of the job was keeping up with documenting every interaction. And most enjoyable was group and one on one therapy.

The first thing to mention here is the high turnover that occurs with this agency. As social workers, one would expect to carry a high caseload and help individuals who cannot help themselves. With this stressful kind of work, it would be expected that these workers receive competitive compensation. This agency not only ignores the turnover, which is incredibly costly, not to mention the time that is taken out of a supervisors schedule to constantly be training and covering caseloads, but does nothing as far as incentive's or promotions to keep people interested in staying with the agency.

The agency is also top-heavy with all of the six figure bigwigs working out of one location filling their time with "meetings". They have little to no concern about the low morale within their agency or their division and expect the management to just somehow magically fix all of the issues without any guidance or mentoring.

The hardest part about the job is not having a supportive management structure that knows what is going on in my program. My boss knows nothing about my job.

The best part about this job are my co-workers who try, even with the little money that they make, to make a difference in the lives of their clients.

The most enjoyable part of the job is getting to teach my staff how to be self sufficient in the job.

 There is absolutely no opportunity for growth here. The work environment is high school, political, unwelcoming, and non inclusive. Managers will tell you who you should and should not conversate with. Your manager will treat you differently if you get along with someone they strongly dislike. You will have coworkers who get special treatment such as gifts/food/promotions/and get to come into work late everyday. Favorite employees get to deny work and it gets pushed on to others. 
  What's even crazier is that your boss can work from home and not actually work. Your boss can also shop online all day using company computers and delete emails to deny that emails have been received. Please stay away from the AP department. The manager has openly admitted to not wanting to take the time to train someone and constantly says that they just wanted the title but not the work. If you want to learn correct AP policies and be in a department that has structure, then please look elsewhere. You don't want a boss that has a different mood week to week, and blames others for their own mistakes.
The HR department should be concerned about how the managers represent the company. 

 Clinical responsibilities include assisting medical and nursing staff in support of client care such as but not limited to obtaining vital signs, giving injections, and responding to medical emergencies. Clerical duties may include but are not limited to involve facilitating client flow and monitoring processes such as inventory control, clinical chart audits, report running, billing, record keeping, and scheduling via inter- and intra-agency Electronic Health Records. Clerical duties also involve working at the front desk and greeting clients, checking clients in for planned appointments, and facilitating scheduling of unplanned visits. 

This position requires the use of initiative and independent judgment. 

Occasional travel may be required between sites and performance of both clinical and clerical duties.

Regular, predictable attendance is considered to be an essential requirement for this position. Other duties may be assigned. May require a flexible work schedule.

For people with a disability, the policies are in place to weed you out. You will not last long with this company. They will find a way to either stress you out/bully you to the point of quitting or finding a way to fire you. There is not enough PTO or sick days available to handle your healthcare needs. If you are a single parent on top of having a disability, it is impossible to work here. It is a toxic environment where management will smile in your face and talk about you behind your back. They will pretend to be your best friend and earn your trust, then use anything you share with them against you later on. They will act like they are doing you a favor and on your side, but then use whatever leniency they give as ammunition to get you fired. I have also known a coworker that tried to transfer to a different location after being in the same toxic environment. That coworker was sabotaged by their manager to prevent them from leaving. That coworker had to go above their head and ask for help to get out. Fortunately, that person had a good relationship with the upper management person outside of that clinic location with enough power to get them out. I can not say it enough, DO NOT WORK HERE!

I've worked in a couple of different departments at Integral Care, and I've had the fortune of having awesome leads and management who care about the work we do and support for each other.

Though my current job is in crisis, I almost always get out of work on time. My team is really supportive. There is definitely some noticeable turnover, which makes sense with the pay as well as the ceiling that most folks in our profession will hit when they get licensed. 

The benefits- ASTOUNDING. This insurance for me and my kid have never been better, I'm paying almost nothing for incredible healthcare, and they have an option for fsa and childcare spending account which I REALLY appreciate.  

I always have vacation and sick time available- that has never been an option for me before. My manager and lead really hear me.

Overall, I'm really grateful. I know this isn't a "forever" job, but I think for anyone at the beginning of their career, this job is a really safe/great opportunity to learn and grow. 

I loved what I did however it was draining my mental health and it was clearly obvious the job was taking a toll on my my overall well-being & management did nothing about it. They provide EAP however I wasn't able to get much from it as I didn't really know how to navigate it. I absolutely loved helping my clients but I was struggling mentally and it took me out. My mental health was declining rapidly and my boss while she gave me much grace did little to nothing to help me figure out how to help myself. The job was demanding & we were short staffed the entire time I worked there. I WILL say that this had much to do with the department I worked under as well as the specific building I was in and much was out of my bosses control when it came down to the high demand required of me & my fellow coworkers.
