A good foot into the industry. Non-compete and solicit was only 1 year if you succeed and decide to go solo in the future. 

There are a few constants for Account Executive / Freight Broker roles across every company you could work at I need to address. 
Turnover. Every sales role in the service side of the transportation industry is going to churn upwards of 90%. It is hard, it is cutthroat, you will struggle until you have something pop up. It feels like luck of the draw because it truly is being in the right place at the right time. That is why so many fail - no guarantee on when it happens, you can only keep finding more opportunities to be that guy. 

Work life balance does not exist until you have established yourself thoroughly. Because there are so many people churning, to truly stand out and be better than everyone else you have to do things other cannot or will not. If a truck breaks down at night on time sensitive goods on Friday at 8pm, waiting til 8am Monday to solve it will usually destroy your relationship with a business who entrusted you to move their cargo. 

You will see people making large amounts of money without any apparent reason to be making it. It is because they do the things others do not and stayed the course. The long term brokers keep their spots and business out of sheer effort and force of will. Luck only gets you the opportunity. 

Training. There is no training course I can think of that prepares you for what brokering actually looks like because every industry needs different things for brokers. I was in the industry for 2 years and constantly found myself having to research and figure things out as I went. There’s things I learned from other brokers that I didn’t run into, and things I did that nobody else had. A training course to make you “ready” revolves around methods you can use to self learn and figure things out, not heuristics and rules of thumb. No training can prepare you for everything you might run into. My advice: Stay on your feet, jump into the fire and figure it out. Talk to your coworkers when you run into new things, ask questions, LEARN, be eager and earnest and you’ll quickly see that you don’t need to know everything, but you need to know how to figure it out. 

The cons of IEL. 

CRM - your major companies you know are likely already claimed by someone else. It doesn’t really matter once you learn the profile of companies that you work well with, but it is a frustrating feeling at first. 

Sales goals and timelines - they’re fair. It doesn’t feel like it, but they are. Stay on the ball with prospecting and advancing your pipeline. Put the effort in to succeed and your manager will go to bat for you. The biggest reason people fail is due to a lack of pipeline follow up and lack of fresh prospects. 

Commission - paid out once your customer pays their invoices rather than on POD like some agent programs. I would not recommend a newcomer go the direct agent route, you need a mentor and team to learn. 

Pros:
Pay - I was paid a salary higher than anything else I reasonably could’ve done in an office when hired. You eventually transition to commission only once it is above your salary. Commission is a bit lighter than some brokerages, but I am glad I started here. 

Benefits - good package and prices. 

Culture - the Tampa office had the best culture of any brokerage I’ve heard of. You get what you put in. If you’re kind, honest, and truly wanting to learn, senior brokers will appreciate it and be more willing to help you. There’s enough of a pie for everyone. Conversely, being underhanded and stepping on their toes will lead to poor relationships and you being iced out, but I consider that a FAFO  rather than a sign of toxic work culture. 


I did not succeed here, and am exiting the transportation service industry due to life goals, but I would recommend the IEL Tampa office to anyone who’s young, hungry, and not sure where they’re going in life.

On the job, for sales you will learn to handle rejections mentally, methods for negotiating with customers, finding opportunities with asking questions and asking for business rather than high pressure sales tactics from the first contact. 

On the vendor side, you will learn to negotiate, de-escalate, identify fraudulent and bad actors, how to develop relationships that bring you value, manage their performance, and how to fix issues you’ve never seen before. 

All in all, I miss the rush of slinging freight, seeing prospects convert into customers, the highs of last minute profitable wins, the lows of putting out fires caused by other peoples failures, and everything inbetween.

I’d recommend IEL for everyone who was like me. Hungry, not sure where you wanted to go in life, but willing to put the work in. 

Make sure to find healthy ways to manage the stress and on call the job requires. It asks a lot of you early on, before you can reap the rewards. But if you make it as a broker, you can change your life. If you don’t, you’ll have learned a lot about logistics and set yourself up for a potential business side role managing 3PLs and trucking, or as a coordinator for a successful broker. 

Thank you for reading if you got all the way here. Most of you will fail, like I did. Despite that failure, if you do your best, you’ll come out stronger and better on the other end in many ways. This role became my “getting serious about my life” arc, and I wouldn’t change a thing about how it played out. 

This company is top notch for someone in sales that makes money. You are pretty much left to your own devices(aka, little micro managing), but there is CLEAR favoritism towards the bigger earners. If you keep your head down and do your work, there is typically no issues and everyone there is very willing to help and assist you any time. Everyone in the company can see your weekly numbers and that tends to motivate others to work a bit harder. I was a logistics coordinator with no prior experience and found that I thrived at this place. I am sure if I had done the same job at any other company, I would not have enjoyed it so much.

The past year saw some typical changes for a growing company such as becoming a lot more corporate, all the way down to "hire anyone with a pulse and layoff others" approach and ridiculous penalties for not hitting a certain number, not a percentage, but a dollar amount that is just sometimes not obtainable. This causes those working on volume to not really go the extra mile because the payback isn't worth it(this is more a message to the owners). 

With that said, I enjoyed coming to work everyday and you never knew quite how your day would go, which kept it interesting. I would recommend to anyone looking to be a broker, but hasn't found their 'home' yet. All other positions enjoy perks and such as well, but at the end of the day, this is a brokerage company so brokers come first.

I have been with this IT department since there were less than 5 IT employees, and I have been proud of what we have accomplished together.

We have built a TMS that has helped our company explode with growth. We have built APIs, portals, mobile apps, data warehouses, Meraki networks, hyperconverge clusters, cloud platforms, and more. 

But more than anything else, we have built a great team. We built our TMS in 2016 with a core team of 4 - and 3 of the 4 core devs/QA that helped build our TMS are *still with the team* over 3 years later! 

Most of all, I enjoy watching our team grow their skills and have the autonomy to own their work. Our management style is service based - we are always trying to empower our teams.

That's why we offer flexible schedules, the ability to work from home, the opportunity to work on important things, the ability to attend conferences paid by the company, and the chance to truly grow your skills and collaborate with other smart, open-minded techies.

I love working with new technologies and new platforms, and that even in management I get to work on technical, hands-on things everyday. More than that, I love watching my team grow and being apart of it.

I have been here for a few years and I cant imagine a better place to work.  The culture and atmosphere is laid back and I have a lot fun working with my co-workers.  All I wanted in a job was to make a healthy living and to enjoy what I do, and I have found that here at IEL.  I hear some people complain about the stress or that it may be cut throat, but we are in sales, and if you dont sell then there isnt a place for you.  But if you do sell, the sky is the limit, you can easily make $100-250K at this job.  You dont get into sales unless you want to make a lot of money, but there is a risk with the high reward.  

Turnover is very low here compared to other places I have been, it is below 10% right now for the year here.  The only people I see get fired are those who are unethical or who are lazy.  There is no room for laziness in a sales position, you must be self motivated because you arent going to be micro-managed here.  I did hear TQL and other freight brokerages are closer to 75% turnover, so I am really impressed with IEL, I guess this is why they are the fastest growing company in Cincinnnati.  Management and Ownership has been nothing but supportive and I look forward to continuing my career here for a long time.

Started off great but something felt off as I only received one week of training and then I was on my own. After a year with the company the manager showed his true colors and who he actually is. My numbers were phenomenal and at a time where rent was going up and before I start paying my own insurance, a raise was denied as I was just asking to help get that covered so I can continue to come into work everyday knowing I’ll keep the lights on and I was told and I quote word for word, “Don’t be afraid to ask your parents for help.” As a 26 year old with great performance weekly, I’m told to ask my parents for help instead of validating my efforts. This job will you get you nowhere. They lure you in with false information and paint a false picture. I witnessed over 15 people up and leave within a 2 month span. I don’t know how this guy is still in charge when he is clearly sinking that ship. I even asked someone who had 5+ years with IEL if they felt valued in a place where majority of that 5+ years had been spent. Only for that answer to be no. Take this information with what you will. Don’t make my same mistake.

IEL is a fantastic place to work.  Income potential is uncapped, and there is a ton of support and help available to help you grow and succeed, you just have to ask.  This certainly isn't a place where you can come, clock your 40 hours, put in minimum effort, and skate by.  If this is what you want, IEL isn't for you.  If you are willing to put your nose to the grindstone, work hard, and enjoy sales, you will succeed.  

There are a lot of people here making 6 figure incomes within 3-6 months, and a lot of people who don't put in the effort and fall on their face.  The choice is yours.  The sales process here is long-term partnerships.  We are building customer relationships to do continued business, day in, day out.  It isn't one sale to one customer, and move on.  You are servicing your customers continuously to get their freight moved.  That means you are (should be) available 24/7 for your customers to call or to solve problems, and early on, you may be pulling late hours building your customer base.

The guys at the top are putting in the hours, but their paychecks are more than rewarding.

Everyday at IEL is different which is part of what makes it such a great place to work.  I am motivated everyday by the power of hard work and am fueled by the idea that I am responsible for creating my own successful future.  Management is very approachable and encourages open communication, sharing of ideas, team work, and ongoing professional development.  The culture is second to none and easily the number one reason I actually look forward to coming into work everyday.  I work with some of the coolest, most fun, driven and hardworking people I know.  The hardest part of this job is simply keeping up with your co-workers - because everyone is always trying to do their best, to keep earning, and to stay fresh and on top of their game ... but that is not necessarily a bad thing, right?  Best part of the job is the culture - plus management and gorgeous office space and of course the laid back environment.  If you are looking for a buttoned up corporate culture - this is not the place for you.  If you, like me, had your fill of corporate culture and appreciate a more chill vibe - 100%, check us out!

IEL is the first place I have worked where it seems like the company genuinely cares about its software engineers. 100% remote working is possible, an environment that doesn't feel rushed, and colleagues that want to help you succeed are just 3 reasons why I have stayed at IEL for over a year so far. The generous PTO policy and benefits packages are the icing on the cake.

The only downsides I have seen thus far are ones that are pretty common to most corporations. For example, the company-mandated virus scanner software often causes problems with our development environments, we are not allowed to use Linux directly (only as a subsystem on Windows), and the Scrum/Agile structure actually leans more toward Waterfall development.

My typical day at work is coming in and basically working at my own pace. this is a very fast paced industry.. however.. you work for what you earn and that's what i like a lot about it. there is no range on how much you can do here. you get what you give. the people i work around make work enjoyable- it doesn't feel like I am actually "working" some of the time.. like every job you're going to have things that you don't like or wish were different but here at integrity i can honestly say that this is the first time i enjoy everything about my job.. i don't mind the early mornings and late nights because its enjoyable. Starting at integrity i didn't know a thing about logistics but the training program and my co workers changed that rather quickly. everyone here is so willing to help without even blinking an eye. everyone is very approachable and its just an overall great place to work. i hope to spend many more years here at IEL!

I've been with this company for about a year now and I am still very happy with my decision. I really do enjoy coming into work everyday and enjoy working with everyone here. Compared to many places i've worked this company has the strongest business support for IT. The business has invested heavily into IT and truly values our department.

I constantly have the opportunity to get my hands on new technology and any new technology I suggest is genuinely looked at.

As with all companies things aren't perfect here but in my mind a lot of this is due to growing pains. This to me is actually a good feeling because we continue to grow rapidly, this gives me a feeling of job security.

Overall if you are considering a career here do not hesitate its a great place to work!
