It's a decent work place but there's no upward movement opportunities. There is already a slew of supervisors who love to sit at a desk all day and have little chance of losing their spot so if you are looking to move up that is dependent on time alone. Only about 2-3 supervisors do more than idlely sit and chit chat with each other. They do love their meetings here so odds are if you can't find a superior to answer a question they will more than likely be in a meeting just chewing the fat and gaining no real ground in resolving problems or issues. Co-workers here are friendly and very helpful but you can see that the management team is happy letting a handful of hard workers do most of the real work while letting friends and long haul workers coast doing the minimum. Pay here is also very obscured and heavily discouraged from being shared. Some people get a .35¢ raise for "cost of living" while others will see upto $2-3 for the same named reason. They are willing to pay if pressed for better wage but will never step up to offer it. Over all not a horrible place to work if you just need a paycheck but would not recommend for anyone looking for a real career.

The 3 months over the summer that I had the opportunity to work at Irwin gave me experience in floor work of engineering and showed me how factory operators use what engineers design. I also had the opportunity to provide engineering related machine data to supervisors which they hoped to use to improve machine efficiency and operation. My supervisors were always very helpful and able to answer any questions, problems, or concerns I had and genuinely cared about their employees. The business is small giving it a more relaxing personal atmosphere. Coworkers were friendly and easy to get along with. The only drawback is that it is factory labor which got tedious and that long hours are required since it is a small business; however, working conditions are clean, safe, and overall pretty good for a factory.

Upper management is great. But they’re not in touch with lower management. Lower management is poor. Everyone wants to be the boss without doing anything to earn the title or have the qualities of a leader. Pay is not enough for what is expected of you. High turnover rate equals people who are just there to get a check, not caring about their job.

The company as a whole is alright and seems to support other employees well, however many of the upper management are not particularly kind to those below them. 
I often got the vibe that others thought they were better than me and treated me as such. The compensation was not worth the negatives of this position. 

Management doesn't care& if the union doesn't like you they won't help you good pay if attendance is good but easily lose money even with using vacation call in get points no matter what even with the pandemic they don't care about your life outside of work union is a joke hr is a bigger one unless youre one of hr people production workers they couldn't careless hard work we put in we deserve more than what they give us 

While the company is very supportive of its employees and produces a very high quality product, in my opinion the upper management is too focused on the new products.  It feels as though the existing product lines are an after thought, resulting in ever aging equipment.

There were two ten minute breaks with a half hour lunch; I learned the importance of efficiency and how to work with various tools. Management could improve quite a bit. Most of my co-workers were friendly and eager to help. The hardest part of this job was the constant physical labor. My favorite part was learning something new everyday and socializing with my co-workers.

Its a place that tries tondo to much at once. There are alot of jobs that are there that are not needed more than one person dose the same job. But dosnt need all the people to do that job. Alot of standing around and talking in the higher ups and or managerments. But never know whats going on when you ask, or the simple answer its the higher ups decision.

Typical day was process improvements for cost reductions, putting out fires, meetings, assist with production issues, and resolving floor issues.  Continuous Improvement (5S, etc) process and Value Stream Maps.  Dealing with the union.  Walking in the door because you didn't know what the day had in store for you.
