Let me start by saying that when I first started at this company, it was good. They had the hours I was looking for, everyone seemed really nice and supportive, and I felt that I could stay long term with the company.

However, that changed when the pandemic hit. Without warning and seemingly very quickly they cut our pay by switching the salary workers to “hourly”. Saying you will still make what you made before as long as you could see as many patients as you had before. However in the pandemic, a lot of patients (rightfully so) began to cancel or ask to be taken off of the schedule because there was a pandemic that was spread through close human interaction which is what all ST/OT/PT is! The company gave us no time to work from home to be safe. We worked through the pandemic offering remote therapy for the patients convenience while we were expected to show up to work and still work face to face with patients without a lot of PPE that we needed.

I got to talk to the head of the company because he took the time out of his busy schedule to fly out to the different clinics and we got to hear about how “fun” that was for him. I asked him when we could expect to work from home seeing as how we didn’t have good PPE and he said that they wanted to leave it up to the patients to decide. He also told me that “only 6” of our therapists in the country had contracted COVID. At the time it was a staggering number and something that I didn’t appreciate hearing in such a dismissive tone of voice! I was also lead to believe that those cases weren’t near us. However, I later heard that not only were one of those cases in the same state but I personally knew the person who contracted Covid. She said that they did not offer her any aid or paid leave and made her use her vacation time while she was mandated to be out of work.

On top of that they don’t offer good benefits, they don’t offer maternity leave, and they don’t offer sick leave. They will make you take vacation time if you are sick.

They have a high turn-over rate and they opened up a suggestion box to hear what their workers want or what they think potential workers might want. They don’t listen to this feedback and continue to whine that they can’t get enough “dedicated” workers. Upper management is so far removed from the ground floor that they don’t see why they have such a high turn over rate.

Meanwhile the people they do bring on work themselves to the bone until they get burnt out and quit. You work long hours and you best believe that they will fill up your schedule to the max. Meanwhile the therapists, especially the SLPs, hardly see a fraction of that money.

They talk a big game about diversity in the company, but all of their upper management is not diverse!

Also in response to employees good-faith request to have regular communication about what direction the company is taking, they demanded that all the clinics do a 5 minute meeting that directly impacts patient care time! 5 minutes might not seem like a lot but sometimes the 5 minutes would go over to 8 minutes and for a 30 minute speech session that is a good fraction of that time! And it’s not like this 5 minute meeting is once a week! It is every day! Every day that the same patients are getting only a fraction of their therapy time that they were promised!

And I’m still not done!!! The clinic that I worked at had been trying to get the therapists to do social media marketing for them for no extra pay. The clinic manager tried to pass it off as a “fun” thing that you could do for the company. On your own time. Marketing is a whole different job, one that someone can and should be paid full time for! But they were trying to pass it off to us therapists as if we didn’t have enough to do with actually seeing patients! Our clinic manager got a new therapist (fresh to the company and fresh out of school) to agree to it! On her first day! Not mentioning the fact that it wouldn’t be paid and that she didn’t have to do it!

Also right before I left, they were making the OTs work through their lunch break for some mandatory training. And this would apparently last for months!

Don’t work for this company. Find a better one that values your time as a therapist and the patients’ time!

A typical day of work includes treating kids of all ages back-to-back in 45-minute 1:1 sessions, while completing documentation within that session. There is no time allotted for documentation outside of treatment and your lunch is unpaid. You barely have time to breathe let alone use the bathroom or even plan out any treatment session. When you ask for help or express being overwhelmed, management says "but you're doing great" and gives you a nice pat on the back and continues to require the same expectations while also asking you to get your documentation done even when your schedule proves you have no time to do it. You're constantly exhausted from working until 8pm and Saturday mornings and then feel frustrated when you're asked to work more evening and weekend hours to "help the kiddos."

The job itself is fun, we're very play-based and the people and kids I work with are awesome. However, I don't have any time to really get to know my co-workers due to constantly being overworked. The benefits seem great, but at the end of the day they are no better than any other outpatient rehab company out there. When I ask to take the PTO that I'm entitled to as part of my compensation package, I am told I can move my hours around and save that PTO. They advertise it as "flex scheduling" but the emphasis and pressure they put on it isn't "flexible" it's nearly demanding. By the way, sick days are included in that PTO allotment. You get paid holidays, however you're constantly asked to add hours during the week to "make sure the kids get what they need." What they mean is they don't want to lose those visits/money - you also don't get paid OT for those extra hours, FYI. My salary is also not a fair market value (can't speak for others) given the schedule expectations of at least 6 hours of evening work per week and every other Saturday, but it's a nice place to start as a new grad and you can only go up from there. I did have to negotiate and fight for the salary I ended up with, so know that they will low-ball you...bad.

At the end of the day, this is a great job for new grads. They will provide mentorship and the job will give you a lot of variety with creating treatment plans, experience, and time-management skills. Any salary is great after coming out of many years of higher education with minimal or no income and debt. After 1-2 years, just before you burn out, you capitalize on the experience gained and start looking for a better place to work that actually cares about its employees and has low turnover rates. As long as you understand this is the type of job that it is, then you'll get a great amount of experience in clinical skills and reasoning and make some good relationships along the way. You'll also learn what not to look for in jobs moving forward.

I have been an employee for Ivy Rehab for over a year. I have seen multiple fellow employees leave in my short time here, and I expect to see more. They over work their PT's and require them to do so much that is outside of their job description, leaving them no choice but to leave after being worked like a mule week in and week out. Also, employees are some how expected to go to other clinics if your home clinic is not "busy" enough, even though you were hired for 1 place. This also is NOT in the job description. There have been numerous occasions of lack of communication with management higher up, often leaving you at fault for mishaps that you were not aware of how to even handle or go about them. Training for your position is also not enough, and is only the very basic to get you started, leaving much room for error in many cases not at your own fault. On numerous occasions, we have had issues with management being hostile which makes for an unpleasant atmosphere and environment all around.  It is hard to find a workflow here because they are constantly and I mean ALWAYS changing the way we are supposed to do things or continuously adding new things on top of our plate. It is so stressful to not always know what is going on and what has changed. A lot of it seems like busy work, as management at times will tell you that they dot even care what you put down. Management will always and constantly dangle a mere $200 taxed bonus, and is the center of the position. It seems as if it is more often times than not, impossible to achieve, and they make it seem like that is the only thing that matters. Analytics are often off when it comes to this, which makes it hard to receive the low bonus anyway. Maybe you have to be a kiss up to receive it? We also do NOT get sick days, which I find to be absurd as this is a healthcare facility. You are expected to either come in to work on your death bed spreading it to others, or to use your PTO if you even have any (as PTO accrual is very low). When you are off due to PTO, you can expect to come back to chaos and mayhem in your position with in house management not doing their part and leaving a heaping pile of work for you to sort through when you get back. They will not do their part in making up for you not being there which will then in turn look bad on you. A lot of things out of your control will be your fault, even though there was nothing you could even do.  The company overall seems as if they only care about money and strive towards that rather than patient care, employee care as well as the quality of employees. Employees are rarely shown appreciation, at least in my job role. Would not recommend for others to come here. 

Pros: They have great benefits especially for PTO, 401K, CEU reimbursement and CEU paid off days. The salary is between below-average, so better to negotiate hard when you have interview with them. I was very lucky to have nice, professional, knowledgeable, and passionate coworkers, and a great manager who tried to protect us from toxic environment. All patients and family members were so sweet.
I really enjoyed working before Ivy came. I was also excited to see their benefits and supports for CEU. I think Ivy will be a great fit for workaholic.

Cons: They advertise hard, and it is growing nationwide. I think we have to be cautions of this. Many employees have left with big frustration of the company. 
 This shows that they squeeze their employees with no appreciation. They require 85% productivity which is higher than SNF/ALF settings where I worked, but they make more than that to make tight schedules as much as they can. You should ask managers to show you their schedules, and ask what expectations they have for your schedules when you have interview.  
 They've made several changes in policy, which were ridiculous. I don't think I can address these here in detail, but it impacts a lot on therapists. These are all about money, and I've felt suffocated working here for the last few months. 
 They do not respect therapists. They pretend they care about patients, but they do not. They cannot squeeze therapists if they really care about patients. 
 Luckily, I had a great manager, but other offices have toxic environment. You Should Ask Manager To Show You Their Schedules Before Taking the Job!!! 

 I wish they listen to their employees sincerely, and try to reflect their opinions. Pretending they care about employees and patients makes me more frustrated. Just be honest. 

 Let's be reasonable and human being. It will be the only way to make 'win-win' by improving  the quality of the therapy for therapists and patients, and it will bring the great reputation of the company too. I hope Ivy makes some changes for employees if they've seen this. 

Pros

Having a difficult time finding pros. There really is nothing good about working here; I would NOT recommend anyone work here.


Cons

ZERO structure- delegation and management is poor. Corporate office is in need of SEVERE help and nothing is being done.

Work environment is stale & old; office culture is boring and is not encouraging.

No distinct direction nor explicit explanation of job descriptions. People are working cross-departmental and is a complete mess.

Many frustrated vibes within the office; departments argue constantly.

Absolutely zero on-boarding process.

Benefits are horrible - no dental or vision.

Very unorganized- they need multiple assistants. Suggested: one assistant per department. They are extremely understaffed.

Technology is ancient; outdated and not using cutting edge systems to increase efficiency.

Large company growth- no internal IT department.... terrible.

Needles to say, they need to significantly grow their corporate office to increase productivity in which they are lacking and later take out on current employees... unfair.


Advice to Management

Serious redesign is needed.

Must implement on-boarding process and define a concrete delegation system with constructed answers and guidance.

Culture and environment needs reconstruction and encouragement.

Corporate needs help - you are setting your employees up for failure.

Grow each department by several members and you will find an ease of frustration, work vibes will lighten and become more positive and people will actually want to go to work.

Hire more competent and professional Accounting managers, the current first-line Accounting management are rude, ignorant, and are in need of a serious attitude adjustment.  

Try not to punish those who are trying to advance themselves.

This company is infamously known for its toxic environment, terrible treatment of its employees, overworking the staff, and expecting PT’s to see 16+ patients in an 8 hour span, and much more. They’ll promise you the stars and moon when they interview/ hire you, but will never truly give you what was promised. If they do, you won’t see it or it won’t come up in conversation until a year later, and even then you have to fight for it or there is some hidden obstacle they make you undergo before you can even get it. All they care about are numbers and the budget. They will work you to death and you will not be compensated for it. Their expectations for their PT’s is always changing every other month, increasing the amount of patients they expect them to in a day, while also having to bill them out strategically so they can get the most out of their money even though they barely have time to treat or be with the patient one on one for more then 10-15 minutes if they are lucky. Management and higher ups are very shady and descriptive. There is constant gossiping and passive aggressive actions they create behind the scenes when they plan to take action against their employees. They belittle their employees and make subtle threats to get what they want. If you value your wellbeing and peace, and would like to be respected, acknowledged, and comfortable in your work setting, do not work at Ivy rehab. I never have been so miserable and on guard in workplace until I worked for this company. None of their staff is truly happy and are just pushing through. Work elsewhere.

Pros:
-Good co-workers including therapists, front desk, and aides. However, high turnover due to the cons below mean they don’t last long.

-Learning how to avoid future PT mills through this experience of identifying red flags and seeing past their corporate-marketing-speak.

Cons:
-Toxic work environment focused on high productivity at the cost of the well-being of both patients and employees. Leadership and management communicate poorly and use passive aggressive to aggressive methods to suck maximum profit out of you. You will be challenged in your ethics, morals, and very soul.

-Physical therapists see 2-3 patients an hour which includes evaluations and follow-ups. Although “only” 13 patients per day are required, 3 patients an hour are scheduled to account for cancels and no-shows. Working a 7-8 hr shift, you will be scheduled 16-19 patients. If a PT is out on PTO and there’s no coverage, you will have additional triple bookings totaling 19-22 patients (more on PTO policy below).

-PTO includes sick days and requires coverage, which you’re supposed to find on your own. That PTO day has to be made up by you or another PT, which they heavily push or the other PTs are stacked with more triple bookings.

-Front desk and aides are understaffed. There is not enough coverage for full shifts or when someone is out.

-For potential applicants especially new grads who are eager for that first job, please heed the warnings. Sign up bonuses, salary, and benefits are trappings with trade offs. Do your research, be patient, and know your worth.

Working here has been good for me so far. I have learned tons about how physical therapists administer patient plans and exercises, and I’ve gained a good idea and knowledge about how to interact with patient. A typical day, depending on what time you start, will usually start off very busy. Later in the day when less people come in for appointments becomes a bit easier. Having a base knowledge on exercise and movement would be GREATLY helpful in this position. In my location, the PTs and PTA’s were almost all generally glad to show me how to do certain exercise I was unaware or unsure of so I could show patient them. If I was wrong they would come over and gently correct and explain why the correction was needed. I see that’s not necessarily the case for everyone, but if you’re willing to learn and continue to show improvement in what you’ve learned, the environment only gets better. I often feel appreciated and noticed at my job which only motivates me to come in more. 

Seeing as I’m part time, I don’t get a ton of, if any benefits at all. Pay is okay, but certainly not a livable wage in NYC, at $16 an hour. As far as I’m aware, upwards advancement from here and a pay increase is not negotiable for me. I’m still taking some classes and my hours are incredibly flexible and forgiving. 

Overall, it’s a great stepping stone to get experience in the field. You may not have a ton of upwards advancement but the connections you build with PT’s (especially if that’s the field you want to be in) can be extremely beneficial. Everything you learn can and would be helpful. 

When I started here it had just been bought out by Ivy Rehab. The first year I worked here it was fantastic and I would’ve happily stayed for my entire career. However, changes slowly began which have completely ruined my experience at this job. Corporate values only 1 thing: making the maximum amount of money possible for themselves. Therapists and patients mean nothing. You are scheduled back to back all day every day with no paperwork time built into your schedule whatsoever - that’s a 100% productivity rate. You frequently have to see other therapists’ patients with little to no warning, your own patients are moved to other therapists’ schedules so you can do evaluations of kids who won’t even be on your caseload… essentially, children are moved around on the schedule by receptionists who don’t know anything about them (this is especially a concern for autistic kids who need routine and familiarity to feel safe, let alone learn new things) simply to fill empty spots.  No one understands or cares that therapists don’t just bill money-making minutes, we plan sessions, complete documentation, clean toys, read research articles, collaborate with parents/teachers/other therapists, make therapy materials, etc.  You barely have time to use the restroom, let alone do all the other million things you need to do to be an effective therapist. 

As a patient coordinator, you will be overworked and told to meet unrealistic goals. The high turnover rate seems to be ignored by corporate and there is no accountability from them whatsoever. A meeting with "highers ups" proved to be a monumental waste of time, as every single PC (patient coordinator) in that room expressed concerns over the work flow and lack of training, including lack of training for aides. This is a job where you are expected to where many hats, but will not be compensated accordingly. I've been at the company for almost two years now, and I've seen many physical therapists leave  as well due to being overworked and burnt out. There are no incentives, despite corporate saying so, to stay or even work at this company. They discuss bonuses, but there is not actual bonus structure. You can work as hard as you want, but if your numbers are off by 1, there's no bonus for you. It's demoralizing in an already low paying position that offers no breaks. Yes, no lunch breaks or even 15 min breaks are provided. I've worked many jobs, including retail and other medical offices, and a break was ALWAYS given. You'll be lucky to get a bathroom break or a mental break. Also, mandatory biweekly meetings in the clinics, with NO LUNCH provided. The bare minimum is not even being done to keep employees here.
