Let me start by saying I am a PSA (patient safety assistant) in the ER at JPS. I happened across this job opening when trying to get out of an awful job where I was constantly being treated poorly.
Anyways, I applied for the PSA position and was quickly called in for an interview. The process was so incredibly smooth and easy, and everyone involved in the interview process was amazing. I was offered the job the very next day and I was soooo excited!! At first I didn’t think I’d do well at my job, working for a company of this size was incredibly intimidating and I can be very shy when I first meet people. However, the second I stepped on the floor I was greeted with incredible people who were more than willing to answer all my questions and help me learn everything about working in the ER, even teaching me things that could help others out as well (nothing i am not legally allowed to do, just ways to ensure the team works more cohesively). I truly had the best training experience ever. Everyone involved in the process was phenomenal! I actually ended up meeting one of my closest friends during my training. Training for my position, I’m not sure how other positions are, was two weeks. So after my two weeks of shadowing/training, I was on the floor alone, and I was a little bit scared but luckily the ER staff on my shift are incredible!! I was nervous to be on my own, but I was surrounded by support and understanding. I honestly love my job and this company. I know there are mixed reviews, but the management and lead staff in the ED are incredible. I unfortunately was faced with a very tragic situation and every single person on my management staff was incredible. They were giving me resources, checking on me a bunch and just ensuring I was okay. They honestly helped me so much during a very rough time in my life. 
Basically, JPS emergency department is full of support and great leadership. I know, like every job, there will be mixed reviews. My experience has been incredible. I have met some of my closest friends working for JPS. I feel heard whenever I’m expressing concerns, or whenever I’m looking for some guidance. My manager is the nicest human ever, he wants to know how the ED can improve and is interested in his staffs long term goals. 
If you’re looking for a foot in the door and you truly enjoy helping people, JPS is the way to go. As long as you’re doing your job and doing it to the best of your ability, you will love this company! The pay, at least for my position is really good. And the best part, even though it’s a hospital and every one of our jobs is important (from housekeepers to doctors) it’s also a fun environment. I just genuinely love my job and my team so much. And I love that I’ve made friends I feel will be with me for the rest of my life. 
JPS is also a teaching hospital, so there are tons of opportunities to learn and grow.

I have been in the medical field for several years. I took a job as a patient call specialist because I was wanting to try working from home. I will say that I have never worked for such a dysfunctional department in my life. The training was horrendous,  we learned nothing after weeks of being in ojt. We were encouraged to ask for help and to ask questions but when we did, it would take forever for someone to respond to you on teams chat. If you did get a response, whoever answered you would respond to your question with another question. All of this, mind you, while the patient is on the line. There were times when you would get different answers from different supervisors and then you'd get in trouble for taking too long on a call. They micromanaged everything and were on your case about call handle time, what errors you made in regards to answering a call, how you didn't collect enough for the month etc. This would not be an issue if we had been properly trained. We were basically given weeks of training on how to schedule on Epic and then we were thrown on calls. When we asked a question, with the patient in the line, a supervisor or whoever was supposed to help would always ask if you checked on SharePoint, which is something used to reference in order to properly schedule for different specialties and providers. Mind you this SharePoint changes all the time. Because we we're properly shown how to reference this, supervisors would keep prompting us to reference it instead of answering you immediately.  It took time and we had to deal with patient backlash. We literally got emails on the daily with all CRM errors for the day, which is ok. It's extremely stressful when you're on a call and these emails keep popping up, and then you're getting chat messages asking you to explain other errors and then asking you to get off after a call in order to discuss whatever mistakes you'd been making. This was demoralizing. Absolutely crushed any sense of progress you may have had. Everyone kept saying "you'll get it" but I honestly had a difficult time understanding the process because everyone told us different things. I have never in my life worked in such a dysfunctional and disorganized department. It wasn't only me, it was mostly all the new people starting too. We all shared the same complaints and sadly, many of us left. I had such high hopes for this place but all the benefits and the pay weren't worth the mental stress you go through. I do not recommend this place for anyone.

- Police Department: most police officers at JPS Health Network fall into one of two categories: 
  1) Rookies who are less than two years out of the academy 
  2) Seasoned veterans that retired from other departments after a 25-30 year career and now bring their experiences to JPS Health Network. 
- As a new police officer there isn't any place better to learn how to be a GOOD and EFFECTIVE police officer.  
- Veterans are willing and able to teach and come from agencies like Irving, Arlington, North Richland Hills, and from as far away as New Orleans.  
- Starting salaries start around $20 per hour for recruits straight out of the academy but are greater for those with previous experience. 
- The chief understands that younger officers most likely don't plan on spending their career at JPS.  As such he asks for two years and has no problem helping younger officers obtain employment with a larger agency afterwards as long as you're a quality officer while employed at JPS.  
- The wealth of knowledge available to a younger officer is unbeatable anywhere else.  Learn from the veteran officers that are here and you'll be an effective officer anywhere else.
- SHIFTS: 12 hours 
- WORK WEEK: One heavy week of five days working;  one light week of two days working.  
--- Every other week you'll have Friday, Saturday, and Sunday off.  
- OVERTIME: if you want it then it's available (time-and-a-half) 
- OFF-DUTY: available within Tarrant County.
-  SHIFT DIFFERENTIAL: applied for working evenings, overnight, and weekends 
- Paychecks: every other week.
- Health perks: employees can utilize the employee clinic where JPS doctors and nurses take care of employees and their families.  Co-pays for this kind of care are very low for the kind of care you'll get.  Along this line is the employee pharmacy where employees can go to fill their prescriptions.  As long as an employee sees a JPS doctor and gets their script filled at the JPS employee pharmacy then co-pays are very reasonable much lower than what you can find at other places.  
- LOCATIONS: JPS Health Network has many campuses other than the main hospital.  Officers are needed at JPS campuses in places such as Grapevine, Arlington, Saginaw, Watauga and MANY others.  Opportunities to go to these campuses are good.

My typical day at work included screening the patients on my units in the morning in order to decide which patients needed to be seen by me that day. Then, I would venture up to my units and perform either initial assessments or follow ups on my patients. Patient who were on TPN were seen daily as I had to write the orders for the next days bag, and high risk or new TF patients were also seen daily in order to monitor their progress. Long term TF patients were seen at least 2 times a week. I also performed educations on newly diagnosed diabetetic patients, and recieved consults from physicians and nurses on high risk patients. In addition, I saw anyone who had been at the hospital for 5 days and had not been assessed by an RD. I also attended physcian rounds on each of my units in order to get a complete picture of the patient, as well as inform the health care team of the nutritional care plans for patients on that particular unit.

Through this job, I learned how to multi-task and complete several tasks in one day. I also perfected how to communicate with other health care professionals in order to ensure the patient was receiving the most complete care I could provide, In addition, I was able to perform several assessments and get more experience in nutritional care options for high risk, complicated patients.

My co-workers and the management team at JPS was outstanding. The team worked together to make sure every patient was receiving upmost nutritional care. If one RD was done with their units for the day, and another RD had a heavier load, then the former RD would assist in seeing patients for the latter. The managers were great at communicating with the team and splitting up our units evenly to make sure we were not over-worked.

The hardest part of this job was getting close with patients and seeing them pass away, particularly in the oncology unit I worked in. On the other hand, the most enjoyable part of my job was seeing patients who came in extremely malnourished and ill get well and leave much stronger and healthier.

The quality team is inconsistent and will penalize you for speaking up if something is not adding up. The managers barely know anything and do not stick up for you. There is not one soul you can trust so if you’re unhappy well you can’t speak with anyone about it. It’s a pretty draining position because the call volume is very high and and so is the turn over rate. I have only been here for 8 months and I barely recognize my coworkers. The pay doesn’t equate to the amount of investigation you have to do and the amount of calls you take. In closing they do not care about you at the ARC call center. I would have never applied if I would have known and I have always worked in call centers this one is the worse by far. I have never worked for a more disorganized, inconsistent, ever changing company in all of my life. Honestly why does a local call center with all local callers close at 7:30? Why? And why have a shift bid if you never get the schedule you even closely desire. It’s because the ARC call center doesn’t care about not one employee, you’re just a butt in a chair and you can be replaced. They will buy donuts and treats from time to time but who cares. I’d rather you value me as an employee I can buy my own donuts and muffins. It’s sad in this economy you have to work in the slums just because you need a check. When I say slums… Slums. I have never worked anywhere before and felt so drained and absolutely HATE coming to work every day. I am currently looking for a way out.

Population Served: adults 19 and over diagnosed with cancer and with zero/low-income or no insurance.
• Coordinated social services for patient/family before, during and after cancer treatment.
• Conducted regular assessments to identify social and financial needs of patients. 
• Utilized the services and resources provided by agencies, organizations, and charities.
• Provided counseling and crisis intervention to patients, caretakers and families.
• Debriefed staff, caretakers and families after a patient had passed, and to discuss life-after-death matters.
• Assisted with preparation for end-of-life care such as hospice and Advanced Directives. 
• Collaborated with home health and medical supply companies in resolving patient’s psychosocial and physical needs.
• Served as patient advocate in attaining resources; i.e., U.S. Residency, financial assistance,  Medicaid and Medicare
• Updated and expanded educational materials about cancer, treatments and patient assistance.
• Researched resources, programs and grants for patients and the Cancer Center.
• Provided current nutrition tips and resources for cancer wellness and treatment.


Management likes to play the blame game. They'll hear your complaints/ concerns but won't actually do anything about it. Policies aren't consistent across the board, you'll get different answers from different people. Some policies don't even make sense and unfortunately it falls back on the patients. Their subcontractor, Maxor, has more power than JPS itself, at least in the pharmacy. They're attendance window is very strict, even if you're a minute late, it's counted against you. However it's only if you're hourly, management and salary employees can come and go as they please, as long as they've worked their required hours. Technology / software was slow and outdated, which belonged to Maxor, not JPS. The internet would go down almost on a daily basis, usually when we were the busiest. There's opportunities to advance in the company, but if management doesn't like you then the odds are stacked against you. On the same note, if management really likes you in your position, then they'll try to keep you there as long as possible. Most of my coworkers were great. 

Side note: JPS doesn't pay for being bilingual, know your worth and don't bother mentioning it. They have a translator service so allow them to use it. 

I’m very thankful for the time, opportunity, and experience. HOWEVER, the ER is a huge clique. The work-life balance is that of any other ER but let me just say this one experience. PTO is hard to get approved but it’s a lot easier if you’re a team leader and friends with the management team. For a week, multiple team leads were gone on a vacation to Florida and I bet you’re wondering how that’s allowed? It’s because they were there with the assistant manager who approved their PTO in the first place. Every night and day, staffing is a popularity contest. Priority of placement is to those “who they can trust” (aka who they hangout with outside work) but won’t train unless those people quit. I always wondered why staffing was ever changing but it’s because turnover is so high. I was constantly put to assignments that endangered my well-being such as switching me out to care for homicidal patients, hostile patients, and also we were only given surgical masks in 2020 peak Covid. I know that we can’t change what patients walk in the door, but it’s very disrespectful to call me away from my area where I’m already doing 1 to 1 observation on a patient to a different area to switch with another able-bodied employee because that patient is being a handful and mine is sleeping. My family begged me to quit because they were missing their family member. 

JPS Hospital Network is a fun place to work. On a typical day as a team lead, I provides direction and guidance to RNs, Techs and support staff to ensure that patients are provided quality care and ensures the department operates in an efficient manner. I supports house supervisors and managers in the safe and effective deployment of staff. I coordinates patient care and provides support to patients and family members and resolves patient problems and concerns by using multi-disciplinary team approach. I serve as a leader and oversees unit operations including emergency situations. I evaluates staff work performance, provide feedback, and manages up as necessary. I learn everyday from dealing to patients, families, and staff. 
The management is good, staff needs are put into consideration and they accommodate staff needs.
The hospital has a multicultural workplace culture. I deal with people of different cultures on a daily basis because JPS is a county hospital that serves the Tarrant County Community. 
The hardest part of my job is not sometimes not having enough time to meet the needs of everyone, while the most enjoyable part of the job is seeing the result of the care provided. Seeing the patients getting well and feeling better gives me utmost satisfaction.

Good place to work all medicall staff and nurses are geeatbgood people very nice good environment…only bad bad thing is certain people in laundry aid area the ones that worked there longer are very rude mean and take advantage of new people and are very racist to hispanic people i loved working there but unfortunately had to quit my job because of this I couldn’t take it anymore it was affecting me a lot emotionally..

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Certain people not working and taking advantage of the new ones to do most of the work while they talk laugh and play.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
In the laundry aid area and people the environment its not good at all… other than that when we go deliver linen to all hospital floor all medical nurses doctors staff were very nice people always with a smile in there face ready to help and save people.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Stat of with a morning exercise a little stretching then drink water and go to work station sometimes only one or sometimes two stations due to lazy people that worked longer not doing their work while they go to restroom and sit down and be on their phone.
