Jackson Memorial Hospital has developed a reputation for prioritizing the Hispanic population and its nursing staff, but this focus has often come at the expense of other groups—particularly the African American community and non-nursing employees. While Hispanic patients may find more cultural and linguistic support, African American patients frequently feel neglected, with their needs and experiences not receiving the same level of attention or care. This uneven commitment creates a sense of imbalance and exclusion in a hospital that should be equally dedicated to all members of Miami’s diverse community.

In addition, the hospital’s work ethic appears inconsistent across staff roles. Nurses are more likely to be supported and recognized for their contributions, while non-nursing staff—such as technicians, aides, and administrative workers—often go overlooked and undervalued. This lack of support fosters workplace frustration and impacts the overall quality of service delivery.

For a hospital of Jackson Memorial’s size and influence, these disparities are concerning. A truly strong work ethic should reflect fairness, cultural inclusivity, and equal respect for every staff member and every patient—regardless of race, culture, or role. Until these gaps are addressed, the hospital’s commitment to equitable care and workplace fairness remains in question.

Years ago Jackson was much better because the manager's cares about their employees. Now is about the budget. Not enough staff to work the floor at Jackson Memorial Hospital. A floor for three CNAs or PCTs to work on the floor there are only one CNA to work the whole floor. Sometimes the CNA or PCT has 14-30 patients which is too much for one CNA or PCT. The PCT or CNA gets burned out by the end of the morning or night. Some of the Nurses and doctors talk down to CNAs or PCTs because you're a CNA or PCT and treat their with no respect. There is no appreciation for CNAs or PCTs. There is no teamwork. The salary a CNAs or PCTs receive at Jackson memorial hospital is not enough to take care of the family and the bills. As a CNA you work hard and get paid Low Salary. There is No Raises for CNAs or PCTs on their salary. There is no recognition for the CNAs or PCTs. That goes for all Jackson Memorial Hospital units at the main campus. Jackson employees need to improve in respecting each other and improving teamwork. Jackson Memorial Hospital needs to give Higher Salaries to CNAs and PCTs because every one of them work hard and spend more time with the patients and giving them good care. Many changes and improvements need to be done to Jackson Memorial Hospital. If the managers and supervisors start caring for their employees the hospital would be a better place to work.

Jackson was a busy place but your peers/co-workers are great to work with and for the most part everyone does their needed responsibilities making the days go by seamlessly but management lacks. I was given an idea of what to except and how my days would go during my interview and 6 months later everything changes. Things were great until management cut hours, staff, but we were still the same volume. Doing more with less and less became stressful and put patients at risk causing serious delays in care for many consistently. It was hard to work after theses major changes because we would be constantly harassed  by management and patients for tasks taking longer than usual when we became consistently understaffed.  I was forced into an ultimatum of lose my job or face hour cuts, forced schedule changes, and much more workload to which the union said they were unable to assist in anyway possible.

It was one of my favorite jobs I've had until everything fell apart from horrible decisions by people that only look at numbers on a chart rather than listening to the boots on the ground. 

In the OBGYN Lab the Tech or Phleb are responsible for marking appropriate test according to the patients insurance!! Not labs field of study.And taking all blood pressures on every single patient.  At that time there was No LIS and all written on paper. Very easily had 150+ patient come through the lab daily. The lab management is very strict and worker are treated like they are in head start and have to be instructed on move.Every little thing is continuously questioned. As a MT/MLT you are trained to make decision regarding lab test. Every little thing has to go through lab manager. No talking, laughing, no joy. Have to wear lab coats at all time. 50 + new hires came and went every few months. Fruit basket turnover!! The pay is average. Paid once a month. Can’t take off for vacation when you have the time during certain months!! ( only in the Lab) Calling in sick is a huge issue, having kids is a huge issue. Beautiful building, clean air, free water but only  the lab is responsible for changing the 60lb bottles.
However I enjoyed the job most of the time and the coworkers in the lab. 
The Lab management and over all management directs employees like a military camp. 

JMG Specialty Physicians, a division of the Jackson Health System is a multi-specialty physician community practice. Created partnerships with Universities to fulfill internship and externship positions and offered job placement opportunities qualified individuals. This firm was a learning organization as it was the first attempt at reaching out to the community in the private sector for the Jackson Health System.

The most difficult part is sustaining good employees based on salary compensation. The most enjoyable part was maintaining the positive interaction between patients, physicians and employees throughout the day. It was gaining feedback for patients to improve our communication and processes internally. I enjoyed and prided on providing excellent service.

The best part of working at Jackson Health System  is because they value their employee and encourage them to work for their institution for a long time.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
 The most stressful part about working at that company was that  having to work at two different clinic , I used to drive 1 hour and 30 minutes , although I had to make arrangements to move closer and of my stress was gone.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
It was a melting pot they also use to have meetings about diversity  and teach us how to treat everyone with respect and dignity. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Typical day for me at the company was very pleasant , every day we know what to expect from our patients and we as the employee put our selves together  to dealt with what ever situation that may arise on a daily basis.

I receeived a wealth of experience at the Jackson Health System. I started as a RN 11 and was promoited several times during the 26 years. I had the respect of management and fellow co workers. I learned how to  render excellent customer service to staff, patients and their families. I developed great managerial, communication,  and interpersonal skills during my tenure there. I was given the opportunity to receive my undergraduate and graduate degrees. The hardest part was learning to prioritize when so many demands were critically important. The most enjoyable part was being the part of a team that provided excellent service to many regardless of their background or financial status. The development of great relationships with many brilliant professional fellow employees.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
It’s a level trauma hospital therefore they have high acuity patient. Sometimes you don’t even have time to eat or drink during your shift.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
They believe so much on team work . Welcoming environment now because they have a lot of young nurses. Due to Covid a lot of the old nurses have retired.It’s a better environment now.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
On a typical day, I would get bedside report. Then I would do my assessment, check ventilator settings before it gets crazy. Then I try to review labs and previous diagnostic test results. Check for existing or new orders. I would try to start documenting my assessment findings before the day.I will pass my morning medication. Call the provider or other departments if needed. Etc

I was thrilled to work for one of the largest public health systems in the country. The indigent/homeless population is staggering. JHS fills not only a healthcare need but a community need for inclusion. I was impressed that throughout the campus there are "parking meter-like" stands where you can put coins to be shred among the homeless. I have never before or since seen such a thing. It preserves dignity and keeps the poor from begging. It maintains their humanism. The organization is well run with state of the art equipment, professionals, etc. I loved my time there.

well it one thing about working at jackson health system u going to see alot of people every day u going to run into all type of people some happy some sad some down just some of every thing i learn by working at jackson u got to have a good attiude be a poeple person cause poeple will try to get to you but u always remeber the poeple pay you and the management is ok its not the best it could be better some time u feel as if management let u down cause u can go to them with a problem they over look it or down play it as for the co worker u know working around that many co worker every body have differnt attiude so u have to adjust some time to there way and the hardest part of the job is making sure u do your job right and be on time to the place where u got to be and the thing i most enjoy about the job it keep u working time go by fast that how much u work
