Jackson National Life Insurance Company

I am forever grateful to have been hired in at Jackson National Life.  I started at the company with very little knowledge regarding investments and Insurance but am a quick learner and now service variable, fixed and index policies for new and existing business.  My main objective is to field calls from policy owner, agents others with interest in the annuities held at Jackson.  I also help service the STARS calls, which is a designation for agents who's books of business total over 1 million in assets each year.  I also am a member of the Dedicated Resource Group servicing internal customer calls and answering product and procedural questions.  Recently, I have also helped with testing a new program called GENIUS that is aiming at making policy specific information easier to capture.

At first, the management style was hard to muster.  In the insurance and annuities business, regulations and guidelines are always changing and it's hard for management to present this information in an organized manner.  After a few months, however, I became a walking encyclopedia of regulations and tax codes and now see it as a challenge to absorb and understand all the changes.

The favorite part of my day is speaking with the policy owners themselves.  It can be difficult sometimes to describe products this complex, however, when it finally clicks and they actually understand the policy and benefits they elected, it feels pretty amazing.  Especially after speaking with someone who has not only tried speaking with their agent several times but as well as other Jackson employees and you are the one who is able to present information in a way they they understand and retain.

THe least favorite part of my job is the lack of accountability.  With so much time dedicated to the phone, especially with Jackson being ranked number 1 in customer service in the financial industry, any complaints or concerns get passed on to other departments.  Because of this, it is also difficult to pay special care to certain agents or owners having a difficult time and I would like the opportunity to be more engaged with the people I speak with day in and day out as well as play a more active role in content administration within Jackson.

I've learned so much working for Jackson National Life.  I've found that I love the financial services industry and hope to further my career through schooling and additional job opportunities.  With the negative light shone on the industry amidst recent scandals, I would like the opportunity to prove to the public that there are people in the financial industry who really care about you and your future.

INVEST Financial is the lowest paying financial institution in the St Pete/Tampa area.  Unlike most other super low paying companies, this company is somehow thriving.  If they weren’t so greedy, they could easily pay more respectable salaries and stay within their budget.  However, the upper management here sincerely believes that people show up to work for reasons other than to receive a paycheck.  Managers here often say that the employees don’t need to be paid fairly because they are at INVEST for “opportunity for growth,” “love of the game,” “self-fulfillment,” and other such nonsense.

Unfortunately, you’ll find no fulfillment being constantly micromanaged and only being assigned menial tasks.  For example, it isn’t uncommon for a rookie employee to be assigned to spell-check and write emails for their manager.  Most management here is illiterate, and grammar mistakes run rampant in company-wide email.  In addition to illiteracy, you’ll find that most of the management here either doesn’t have the proper FINRA licenses to hold their position, or have lovely glamour shots on www.mugshots.com

What does this all mean?  It means that the managers here can never get hired anywhere else, which of course means that you can never be promoted to management.  Even if there was any room for growth here, the maximum pay increase on any promotion is 10% of your wimpy salary.  This is soul crushing because if you work here, then you’re only making peanuts, and 10% of peanuts is still only peanuts.  

The only good thing about this goofy place is that they will sponsor ANYONE for a Series 7 license and pay for the books.  Once you get your Series 7, you can walk out the door the very next day with absolutely no penalties.  You owe it to yourself and your family to get paid what you are worth, so get your Series 7 and go apply to USAA, Raymond James, Merrill Lynch, Franklin Templeton, JW Cole, Transamerica, NY Life, TRowe Price, or any company in the area that respects their employees enough to pay livable wages.
So get in, get your Series 7, and GET OUT!

Understand you will be nothing more than a number to them. You will be worked outside of your paygrade with a slow and marginal increase of your pay over time. If you're lucky you may get a promotion or a bonus but ultimately it will not matter because they will continue stacking responsibilities on you regardless. This company speaks so much of "having open dialogues, supporting our employees, and creating space for everyone", but will leave you out to dry if you're not meeting their standards of work. They will micromanage you to no end. You are nothing more than a set of numbers, expectations, and productivity to them. If you have difficulty with mental health steer clear, because no matter how much you make it clear that you are in crisis, the only help they will offer you is to suggest to "use PTO and take time off". Your work will be monitored and if it does not meet their expectations set by people who've never actually done the work in question, you will be discarded. Ultimately the facade of caring about their employees is transparent and is made clear by the fact that they are driven only by quarterly numbers and growth, despite the people who's labor actually keeps the place running. "Corporate culture" was a running joke within my peers, as so many complaints and concerns were met with "oh, that's just the culture, deal with it, you'll understand when you've been here for 30 years."  Don't let the golden handcuffs fool you, the starting pay and benefits are competitive but its not worth the impact on your mental health. 

The strategic support program (SSP) associates are underpaid. Increase in pay has only happened once or twice ever and does not reflect inflation costs. They put a lot on the SSP associates and offer them zero benefits. No paid sick or vacation time. No merit increases in pay. No cost of living or inflation increases in pay. The only extra "perks" is once in a while they will bribe you with pizza or donuts to people who work overtime. And by the way, that overtime does not increase your pay either. 

A great thing is the flexibility of hours and location you would like to work at. You basically choose your own schedule. 15 hrs minimum and 29 hours max as it's part time. 

Another great thing is some people with high work volumes can work from home, but not everybody. Managers kind of cherry pick who can and cannot though. 

They do try to promote SSP associates before hiring outside the organization. However, it's extremely competitive and usually takes at least a year or more of applying internally to land something. 

Overall Jackson is a great company to work for. Its just that you get a better experience and more appropriate wages and benefits when you work full time. There are some departments that treat SSP associates as lesser than. They dump a lot of responsibility on them to keep overhead low. They consider it a win when they take a well paid full time position and turn it in to a part time position and have SSP associates do the same work for half the pay. 


Jackson offers a highly esteemed work environment, providing numerous advantages and exceptional prospects for professional growth. This organization provides a wide range of departments to explore for potential career opportunities. These include corporate support services, customer service roles, IT positions, and various jobs in the financial institution sector.

The general atmosphere within the company is quite upbeat. While I have had a pleasant experience so far, I am currently exploring other opportunities as I feel unfulfilled in my current position. There is a noticeable lack of effective management in specific departments, which is a major drawback of working here. Although this is a common problem in many companies, it seems to be particularly pronounced within my department. 

The physical sites provided by Jackson are truly breathtaking, both internally and externally. The landscaping at each location is always changing and consistently stunning. The architecture of every building is simply amazing, always leaving visitors in awe.

Overall, I am satisfied with my decision to accept employment at Jackson. While I don't have any major regrets about working here, I do wish that my department's management team was more proficient.

I worked in the call center and it was fine to start with. They train you for 3 months so by the time you're on the phone full-time you're comfortable with the product you trained on and the programs you work with. 
I took up to 70 calls on a normal day, and even more during tax season. Most calls were fine, but the bad ones could get really bad.We were told we could disconnect calls if the caller swears at us or is otherwise abusive and my manger stood by me in those situations. Expect to have callers upset at you for things that aren't your fault (advisor/client filled out forms wrong, advisor/customer doesn't understand the product, etc). I tried for a year to get into a processing position so I wasn't on the phone all day because I like Jackson as a company. I just couldn't stay in the call center for the sake of my mental health. After a year of trying, I gave up and left the company. Overall, not a bad job if you can handle it. I had awesome coworkers and a really great manager. 
Jackson is really trying to make the workplace a welcoming and inclusive place -- they have support groups for young professionals, LGBTQ+ employees, women, and black employees. We were encouraged to bring feedback to management, and I always felt heard by my manager upon bringing up ideas/issues.


If you're looking to get SerIes 6 and 7 FINRA registered, Jackson is a good stopping point. I've worked in call center environments in different capacities for over 10 years, and never have I experienced a place like Jackson. Very little room for advancement OUTSIDE of the Service Center, even with an advanced degree. If you do apply for an internal position, you're required to notify your current manager, which results in excessive harrassment in an effort to thwart your aspirations. High management turnover, constant turnover of call reps, probably because they hire people with advanced degrees and only want to start their pay at $15 and some change. The compensation is laughable for the amount of information you're required to know and the level of quality expected on every call. The Lansing office received huge tax breaks for their recent expansion, but none of those savings were rolled down to the employees. Pay increases during annual reviews are minimal, breaks and lunches are taken away during peak call seasons, and they couldn't care less about a work/family balance. 

I would NEVER recommend this company to anyone. Save your sanity. I'm so glad I left!

•	Extensively used the Struts Action Package, Struts view Package and Other packages in struts.
•	Used spring web package to integrate with Struts web framework. 
•	Managed the Struts Action Classes through Spring Framework which allows the tight integration between different modules.

If you have a disability, good luck. The HR process is grueling and unnecessarily stressful.

The annual raises are less than a dollar, unless there’s a big change and that rarely happens.

The job demands a level of perfection and productivity that is close to impossible.

There are ZERO scheduled breaks and if management walks around and notices that you’re not working, you’re going to be questioned about it even if it’s the only break you’ve taken all day. 

Don’t take too long on a task, but don’t make any mistakes, it’s closely monitored. Also, don’t ask for too much help as your mentors can get in trouble for spending too much time helping you. 

They claim that they want your input on how to make things better but don’t actually listen. 

There’s nothing available to help you advance. They have a document that tells you what’s required for advancement, but they don’t have anything to help you with those requirements, they just expect you to get there on your own. Even if you meet those requirements, it’s based on the availability within the department and they don’t look at seniority for advancement. 

I worked as a customer service advocate, it was just okay. The benefits are amazing, but the job itself is draining. People are calling you sometimes because their relative passed away, and you learn how to empathetic quickly. That alone, can be draining. If it's not that part of the job, you have older people calling you about their web access when they can't operate a computer very well. 

I did start the process of moving up with the series 6 studying, but it was almost all self guided with an online studying system. If you are not easily self motivated, I would not recommend this either unless you really want to move up. 

The reason I left was because I found something better, but what made me look for another job was the way quality control reviews your calls.. absolutely horrid takes of your conversations with people. I never gave anyone poor customer service, and I am confident in saying that. But these people who review your calls... not helpful at all. Just keeps you down as an employee; best to move on. 

If you have the heart of a teacher and incredibly empathetic, this job is for you!
