This job was a huge disappointment and with every passing day I am more inclined to hire a lawyer for the bullying endured at this place.  The HR department will woo you with tales of 1199 benefits, beware! you will pay union dues for 3 years before even starting to build toward pension and medical care, you will have to pay out of pocket for sub par expensive  insurance with high deductibles (the cheapest plan requires a deductible of 750 dollars) for 3 years.  You will not have the help of HR or the union as the managers (fake humble, elitists) who live for a title, unprofessional bullies each having their own style of disrespect and bullying technique.  They hire their church members who are non licensed and have them doing nursing work. The environment is such that exists with oppression with back biting coworkers who report your every bathroom break.  Your work and ideas will be stolen by management on the regular while they find more tasks to heap upon you and policy to email you to govern where you get your coffee on your scheduled break.  Preferential treatment of friends hired by management, RN treated like a clerk, you will be told what to eat, wear, where to sit, constantly scrutinized, belittled and disrespected. don't whisper, or laugh as your cubicle (positioned directly in front of the management's door in a dark cramped hallway) is purposefully positioned for optimal observation of your every move.  They will micromanage EVERYTHING YOU DO!!  While the friends they have hired do what they please, they will bully you almost daily to give money to some cause or contribute to holidays you do not celebrate and participate in.  HOSTILE ENVIRONMENT.  I walked off the job after going to HR, The union 1199 and legal department to make complaints and nothing was done. The office has an entire section that is drenched in glorious sunlight and separate office space enough for all clinicians however they do not allow clinicians to use that side, only the friends they have hired are free to enjoy sunlight.   As members of the union we were supposed to be paid weekly, at first we were...Then they changed it without asking or telling us.

Jamaica is full of people who want to do their best, but they simply don't have the resources to do so. Many of the nurses are excellent. The ones I knew were trying to advance their education and position themselves to be more professional, more competent professionals.  However, the nursing structure at Jamaica is archaic. Each shift is ruled by assistant head nurses, many of whom have been out of clinical practice for a number of years.  These nurses do not serve as clinical resources for less experienced nurses, nor can they prove that they have remained up to date on the latest evidence based practice and technology. The necessity of their role is questionable and yet the power afforded to them demolishes any sense of democracy and autonomy that the nurses on the floor may have. Nursing is a professional discipline. We are not children, we are professionals, and we don't need someone micro-managing us. 

And YES, I floated to multiple units and found the same thing everywhere.  Floor nurses working their behinds off while the assistant head nurse sat at the station and complained about paperwork. Ridiculous.

And as for the rest of it; typical hospital stuff.

Receiving report from outgoing shift,assessment, med pass, phlebotomy, finger sticks, prep for special procedure or OR, admission, discharge and health teaching. I learned all Med Surg nursing skills plus floating to different floors gave me exposure. The management follows the hospital guidelines strictly and some new equipments and supplies introduced from time to time. The personal days, sick days, holiday time plus extra off, vacation days are granted accordingly. Workplace culture is diverse, tasks are done perfectly almost all the time, imperfections are fixed immediately as soon as it’s discovered.
The hardest part of the job is workplace bullying, it happens. The most enjoyable part of the job is learning skills, assessment and reporting abnormal symptoms to MD and other abnormal findings, critical thinking skills and nursing judgment, floating and exposure to different floors. Overall , I had great years of working at Jamaica Hospital it developed me to become a well rounded nurse, skilled with years of experience.

At the end of the day, even though this is a hospital they are a company or a business and letting me go due to an injury on my non-dominant hand after my second month of probationary period was sorely unethical but from a business standpoint justified. Just extremely bad luck. I had the doctors notes for my absences and yet because I was still on probation it wasn't excused. They didn't let me go due to my missing work, they used a loophole stating my work would be affected by my injury in the future and they needed someone with less of a liability to work there. But when I got the unemployment rejection letter they said it was because I didn't work well. I had screenshot to disprove it and I got 7 months unemployment.  

Fast paced, busy medical office. Work with diverse population of clients. Learning about different cultures and how to respond without judgment. I had the opportunity to upgrade to an RN by attending college while working full-time. Our medical office has a large staff including Physicians, Administration, Nursing staff, registration, and other support staff. I learned how to work together with the various disciplines in the office and to share our work space. The hardest part of the job is when clients are upset when the wait time is long.
The most enjoyable part of the job is when I can listen to my clients share their hurt, pain, laughter with me and we both walk out of the room feeling better. I love to see the little children laughing.

During my volunteer experience here at JHUMC, some of my responsibilities required an alert attitude and a strong focus for success.  I had the opportunity to work alongside with a group of Medical Professionals, that included Licensed Psychologist's, Psychiatrists, and Psychiatric Registered nurses.  My desire to learn more about the field of psychology was met with motivational approach that allows die toe experience severely psychiatric patients in a number of settings.  I had the opportunity to observe patients in group therapy and medication group, attended morning rounds meetings where a discussion of the patient's current treatments  was at the forefront, participated in art therapies and led the coordination of social hour for patients by providing drinks, snacks, and games.

My typical day at work begins with ensuring the integrity of our equipment to effectively carry out my daily duties.  Then, as the day progresses, I produce diagnostic images on patients of all ages.  At any time, we can get a trauma call, which intensifies the atmosphere and makes carrying out your daily function even more challenging.  However, the best part of my work experience comes from conversing with my co-workers and delivering adequate patient care to clients in need. The management at our facility displays an incompetent attitude towards the myriad of deficiencies within our department.  They offer termination as their prime solution for their shortcomings.  In any case, the helping of others is my primary concern and objective.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Extreme poor judgement from management.  They got it totally wrong.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Not good  at all. Management is trying to get rid of their best and highest quality workers to hire lazy ones. They prefer quantity over quality. The opposite of what it should be

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Having to rush things to finish the job while the lazy coworkers playing with their phones and having fun and being preferred over you. Also correcting all the careless mistakes that those lazy people did before you because whatever mistake they do, you get blamed for. Unbeleivable

Very busy clinic, good place to work overall. A typical day at work consists of scheduling patients about 120-140 daily, answering phones,making lab appointments, verifying insurance,e.t.c..
Every day was a challenge for me to do better, I learned a lot of patience with having to deal with patients who were in pain and not themselves at the moment. I've learned there is always room for improvement as long as your open to learning new things. 
Management was excellent, very helpful as well as my co-workers (team work was always in effect). I honestly would not say there was a hard part because I consider everything as a learning experience.  The most enjoyable part of my job was helping these patients/visitors and to make sure they were satisfied and happy with their overall experience.

Heavy workload each nurse get a max of 8 patients with possible admissions then the nurse do blood works medications all complete care , PCA s are hiding, no where to be found

As agency nurse they give you the worst, difficult patients and more work load compared to regular staff nurse 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
A lot of gossip at the nurses station, regular nurses have the light assignment and the agency nurses get the difficult complete care assignment, they give all contact, COVID patients to agency nurses, not equal assignment

Like an athlete training straight 12 hours no break non stop
