If you're thinking of applying to be a travel advisor and seeing the perks, the fact you work from home etc. and thinking "it's too good to be true!" then it is. Annual leave is absolutely terrible, you will not get it. If you're considering the job, sign up ALL your dates in the interview when they ask you. After this you go through a system that is automated based on quota, and if you email the HR team (Smart) to ask about it you will get an automated email response saying that if you're emailing about annual leave, it will be ignored. Awful.

Overtly suspicious of absolutely anything, if you have to go to a doctor/hospital/dentist appointment they want information of how long you will be. If it's over an hour they want evidence of why it's taking you over an hour at the appointment, they want notes, they'll be super weird about it and asking you why it takes so long. Not all of us live in Leeds guys.

Training lasts a month which is nowhere near long enough. Travel advisors are dealing with what seemed like 10% sales and 90% holiday amendments. In this one month you are trained on three different departments and jumped onto calls before you have any idea what you are really doing. They tell you this is because you will "remember things better". Couldn't be further from the truth and everyone was more encouraged after we got listening sessions with other seasoned travel advisors. Pointless.

TL's constantly big up the environment and all sorts. You will not remember anything from training because it's all just pushed onto you over a month. They'll tell you "it's a process" and stuff but it's just seriously nervewracking. The systems don't work a lot of the time and run off old outdated software. 

A lot of seriously aggy customers. You'd be surprised how many people get annoyed even at going on holiday! Some lovely people do call up but it doesn't make you feel any better after being nagged about the fact someone wants to cancel a holiday the day before they're due to fly and then blaming /you/ for the fact they're not entitled to a refund.

As you move into embedment you move into teams with completely new people and it's a real struggle, since you'll still have no idea what to do.

You are always being watched as well. Incredibly strict on timing and absolutely everything is logged. 30 seconds late logging in? On your record. Extra minute in lunch? On your record. Just a really, really weird environment.

Get good discounts and the people you work with tend to be friendly, but be aware of that before you start it, because the advertisement is seriously misleading.

If you enjoy flying and interacting with customers, this role can be rewarding. When working with supportive and friendly crew, the onboard experience can be genuinely enjoyable.

Training

Training is paid, but there is a repayment clause if you leave early. The content itself is manageable, however the organisation and communication can be inconsistent. Expectations are not always clear from the start and are sometimes introduced with little notice, leading to last-minute preparation.
There were also occasions where training overran significantly without clear explanation. Overall, the structure and communication made training more stressful than it needed to be.

Flights

The experience on the job varies a lot depending on the crew. Some seniors are supportive and clear, while others can be more dismissive or inconsistent in their guidance.
Conflicting instructions between different seniors can make it difficult to know what is expected, especially as a new starter. Crew morale also varies, and there can be a fair amount of discussion about dissatisfaction with aspects of the role.

Hours

The role involves very early starts and late finishes (e.g. 5am starts and 3am finishes), with long duty days and physically demanding work. This is something to seriously consider. However, we do get a lot of days off and rest days in a month.

Expectations vs Reality

Some aspects of the role did not fully match what was communicated during recruitment. For example, rotas were described as being issued around six weeks in advance, but in practice are often closer to four weeks or less.

Interview was fine was remote on teams and process took two weeks to get started and receive my equipment. In the interview and the job post online it states that the job is a ‘travel advisor’ and only 1/3 calls are sales. This made me think majority customer service and sales a smaller amount which I found appealing. Training was fab and similar to job post had a huge emphasis on customer service type calls. However as soon as we went live on calls it became clear all they care about is the sales calls and building rapport so if you’re not cheery and over the top with your tone you might struggle. I am on the spectrum and constantly just receive coaching about how I can improve my ‘rapport’ even though I am pleasant friendly and nice on calls for sales it’s not enough. I have received no feedback or coaching on the customer service calls even though they are 90% of the calls we make. This means we could be making massive mistakes on holiday bookings without any feedback as all they care about is the sales calls. Daily updates all about sales every conversation with your manager will be about how you can improve your sales. 

I was hired on a wfh basis to advise for those that had already booked holidays. Working during COVID all the calls I took were about the ever changing regulations and how to cancel or postpone a holiday. Customers were frustrated by long wait times and often failed security questions which resulted in them being put back into the queue. The work was tedious. We were micromanaged to the second through online monitoring and by the managers. Training was limited in providing use since it barely touched upon the systems we had to learn to use and then we were thrown onto the phones to deal with whatever was on the other end. The work environment was dull, unwelcoming, had toxic favouritism, lack of progression and heavy micro management. We were promised access to the sales line and so the ability to earn commission which never happened. Over time was not paid just left as time accrued which you have to compete to use when allowance to do so is allocate and holidays are hard when it works on a bidding system. Upper management had no idea how the call centre agents worked and their access. Company policy constantly changed and so we were expected to read updates and take notes whilst talking to customers which resulted in poor service. Systems are far outdated and not fit for use.  The job is advertised well but the reality is far different.

I worked at Jet2 as a Travel Advisor, working from home. The training was fantastic and the training team I started with was fantastic. I immediately felt supported, welcomed and like I was valued at the company. I went through a lot of personal issues while working here, and never once did they make me feel like it was too much. I was supported and the company was flexible with my time and very understanding of everything. They went above and beyond to check in on me. In my role, I struggled to get to where I should have been but my team leader always encouraged me and I really felt like I had someone fighting my corner. In the end, I felt the position itself wasn't the best suited to me personally, but I would 100% work for Jet2 again. The hours were perfect for me, the pay is great (in my opinion), and the training and support you receive after was thorough and constant. I never felt left to my own devices before I was ready, and I always felt like I was rewarded for going the extra mile here. Genuinely a brilliant company to work for and I miss it dearly. I hope one day there may be a role I can snap up that would suit be more than the one I had, because I would love the opportunity to have a career with a company I know loves their employees and their customers as much as Jet2.

My time at jet2 as a travel advisor was a con. They told us alls we do is make sales for customers but during our 7 week training they throw a spanner in the works and put more duties on us which we wasn’t told would happen. Good luck getting time off as your request will be rejected. Good luck if you’re ill because you’re getting threatened to be sacked. They make you work over the time you’re supposed to work, don’t offer any toil. Also, god forbid if you’re 30 seconds late you’re getting a late form to fill out. If your systems stop working and you’re unable to work until IT get the system back up and running, you won’t be paid for that time frame. The bonus scheme is a con, they do anything in their power to jeopardise you getting your commission. The list goes on, please don’t waste your time applying for jet2 as they don’t care about you they just want to take customers monies to benefit themselves. Which I may also add, they force you to manipulate customers into buying a holiday, with the added extras. If we don’t feel comfortable it goes against us. 

I was a customer helper at jet2.com at the Edinburgh Airport base. The other staff I was working with was great, supervisors were also good however the management team was awful at communicating and made customer helpers feel unappreciated and not valued at all! They would be the first one to pull you up on one small error but won’t event credit you or appreciate you for the hard work and hours you put in. A lot of favouritism going on & don’t get me started on how much work (standing for 6-12 hours) running about customer helpers do on a daily basis for not enough pay on top of that the hours were so messed up especially for the pay we were receiving. This job is not for the weak! Because management will never back you if anything goes wrong plus they nit pick so hard about the most useless things. The only few good things were most of the coworkers where lovely and it was a good insight on the industry. 

I found the company quite interesting at first but as days went by the job becomes repetitive, boring and it can be take a toll on your physical health when you spend 10 hours sitting down in front of 2 screens.  As a home based role you need to really enjoy working from home or else this job might not be for you. It’s long hours sitting down facing a laptop and monitor and taking calls sometimes non-stop for 10 hours. You’ll feel alone since you don’t get to be in an office space so that can make the job less enjoyable.
I would say it is a job that it’s worth doing if you like booking holidays for people and enjoy chatting, a lot. Sometimes support is scarce so it will force you learn how to be a good problem solver. Overall 3 star for me but this role is not my cup of tea. I’m sure there’s more enjoyable roles within the company. 

What is the best part of working at the company?
I’ve had numerous health issues and some awful personal problems since working for Jet2Holidays. They have been extremely supportive and have put in place many things to help me continue in my role, they have been really caring and made me feel valued as an employee. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Targets are high but achievable, the systems are being up graded which is stressful but you are given lots of training and provided with the tools to be successful in your role. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Very friendly and helpful, if you have a genuine problem you are listened to and actions are taken to resolve the issue so you can be happy in your role.

The job itself is quite simple involving just checking luggage details and moving them to the right carts to bring to flights, the harder part is loading and unloading the planes, which you do get used to and staff are generally understanding if you struggle at first. Outside the work itself, it’s glaringly obvious that supervisors and management don’t care about baggage staff, you will at some point be talked to rudely, sworn at, and treated poorly for their miscommunication when you’re doing your job. There’s the few Ramp staff that treat you poorly and see it as a bit of fun, it’s either join in or just get treated worse. There’s not much you can do to help with that mistreatment . 
In summary, simple job, easy money but incredibly poor work environment with careless management.
