This place has the potential to be great if those who were calling the shots actually listened or respected the staff who keep the hospital running. The staff that provides direct services to the patients do their very best work they can considering, but patients don’t get the best possible quality due to understaffing. If the understaffing was addressed properly, then maybe things would be better for the little staff there and therefore be a better experience for the patients, but it’s not. If we had half the staff one day then we did the day prior- the beds will still be filled even though that means we can’t provide quality attention or care to the patients. Many people from different positions quit because we are constantly overworked and overwhelmed and don’t feel valued. We don’t feel valued because are input is ignored. They try to bring up morale by having little parties here and there or providing snacks in the break-room. All that is great, but doesn’t change the fact that providing the best quality care seems impossible times.

I had such high hopes when I started working here, only for them to be crushed due to how poorly it's ran by top Leadership in the Top Wing. Gossip is a huge issue top down. Leadership rarely did a thing besides overwork staff, as well as brush things under the rug. Be very wary of Leadership as they talk behind your back in setting you up. Bait & Switch and hidden Policies, Micro-management culture. Every problem was approached with "we have no budget or financial means to cover things, so pay for items from your own pocket."  Turnover is well over 120% but it is hidden very carefully by top management - it is apparent when your staff members never stay working - one minute there, the next minute they are gone. Many who work here have hoped to make a difference in people lives and help them but instead employees and patients left worse than when they came in with trauma from here. Not only dangerous for patients but also for staff. I wouldn't send my worst enemy here! When you complain, management leadership fires you very quickly! Never expect job security here as when you work your 12 hour CNA shifts they force massive overtime pressure to keep your job. No one lasts more than 1 year here whether you want to or not - they are termed out cause they do not want to (they simply do not ever!) pay any raises! Stay clear of here. They are nice to your face, but fake behind your back!

What is the best part of working at the company?
Helping the patients as much as I could to the best of my ability. Treated them like human beings and treated them with dignity and respect 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
We did not have enough coverage for it to be a safe environment for the employees or the patients. Also it was unexeptable when they did not have clean clothes for the patients for weeks

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Horrible work environment.  One nurse almost killed a patient, patients were kept longer than necessary the employees were not treated well either so they stopped coming in.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Physical take downs several times a day, deescilalating arguments and fights, hand out food/snacks and drinks, hold a evening meeting

I have worked for JHBH for just under a year now. I am happy at work 95% of the time. We are a new hospital so there have been some growing pains. I think that most everyone sees that even though there are problems sometimes, we work through them as a team to brainstorm better processes. Management truly wants to help improve the lives we touch, and wants to help the different teams succeed. Nursing wants to get through the day without drama, and the techs are such a hard working crew. It takes a village to care for this population and JHBH is living proof that is happening.

The workplace culture is the biggest issue. People training new hires have no filter about how they feel about new people trying to learn the job. Management is severely lacking support for new hires to acclimate to the position. They address it with what "is best for the company" without regard for you as a person with feelings. Team building doesn't exist. The hardest part is the culture and how management handles complaints when staff training is rude or downright hostile. It is not surprising that they go through as many new hires as they do, and I have seen more than nine people go through just one area in less than 2.5 months! Come on, Johnstown.

They'd pushed violent aggressive patients on us when we had no staff to cover. 6 months into working here I'd always wait for the patients to uprise and over take the hospital. I had hoped to make a difference in people lives and help them but instead people left worse than when they came in and when I finally walked away I acquired my own form of trauma from here. Not only dangerous for patients but also for staff. I wouldn't send my worst enemy here

Morale stays low due to those who truly care for the patients being run out, or mistreated, at times seemingly targeted. Some nurses or techs don't care about the patients which overshadows those who do care. Staff who refuse to work or blatantly put people in danger are rewarded despite complaints. Staff who does well is reprimanded for not "training" new staff correctly. Complaints or concerns fall on deaf ears for weeks at a time then nursed or lower level staff is blamed for "not sharing concerns" . Fear of retaliation is constant if there are any shared concerns or if job related injuries occur.

Working at JHBH is rewarding and fun. I get to interact with staff and patients daily, continuously looking for ways to improve our overall quality of care. Direct care staff are amazing, they are foundational to our patients' positive outcomes. Everyone is committed to learning and growing, putting patient safety first. I enjoy working at JHBH because of that.

You need to be a part of a team. You work with a Nurse. That nurse needs to help you not just sit behind the desk. You need your breaks and lunch to reset yourself. If the nurse is spending 12 hours to fix the previous shifts actions, there's a problem that needs to be addressed with management. The tech shouldn't be run into the ground because the nurse messed around all night 'fixing' the previous shifts mistakes.

I loved it there.  Patient focused all around. Upper management truly cared about every employee.

I don’t know. I loved every part of it.

Everyone was like family there. Everyone cared.

Busy. There were always a lot of people that needed our help.
