Typical day at work was either 7a-730pm, 7p-730 am, 10a-1030pm and you can ask for specific shifts but they usually wouldn't give you what you wanted. Management is very bad and people usually never leave because of the job itself but because of management. They don't communicate with one another, one says one thing, another says another and that one says something different altogether.  They interview you and say they will accommodate you and your schedule if you are in school but do not. People get hired, get trained and quit after a few shifts because they see how it is. The pay is also weird, they pay those without experience more than those with experience. It's not the job itself, the job itself is fine. It's the management and the preferred treatment they give others and when they pick and choose to enforce certain rules that they sometimes make up on the spot. There are individuals on that team that exhibit bullylike behavior along with falling asleep on the job with no consequences. HR has been informed of it multiple times but seem to turn a blind eye. Coworkers made the job bearable other than the few bad apples the team had but that's anywhere you go but in a setting and environment like an ER in a place like Jupiter, I think promoting teamwork and having individuals that lead by example and giving positive reinforcement rather than being negative and unhelpful would be beneficial. Those that have been there for a while not in manager positions feel like they are managers and try to boss others around. One supervisor won't jump in and help when they see the team needs help, they say they don't get paid to register patients, they are there to supervise only. The most enjoyable part of the job were the coworkers that were easygoing and were team players along with the snickers bar ice cream they had. 

I was really excited to join the foundation, especially since I’d heard it had gone through a major culture shift after previously being known as a pretty toxic place. The overall organization does seem to be moving in a better direction — most of the staff are kind, welcoming, and truly a joy to work with. Unfortunately, that hasn’t been the case with the communications/events/PR team.

I would strongly caution anyone considering a role on that team. Despite the broader improvements at the foundation, that department still has major issues — mostly because the same people who contributed to the toxic culture before are still there. There’s a long-standing pattern of poor management, cliquish behavior, and a lack of direction, which has led to constant turnover.

There was no real onboarding or training, and no grace period to get up to speed. If you make a mistake, expect it to be highlighted rather than used as a learning opportunity. If other team members applaud your work, just leave it to the Comms/Events team to highlight everything you've done wrong. The environment felt exclusive, unprofessional, and honestly exhausting — like walking on eggshells every day.

They also advertised a flexible work policy (including a remote day each week), but that turned out to be misleading. After I joined, I had to practically beg to get my remote day, and then it was eventually taken away altogether for certain team members while others still had a remote day.

If you’re looking at roles in other departments, you might have a great experience. But if it’s with the comms/events/PR team… I’d recommend running in the other direction.

I have enjoyed every day the past three years as a Jupiter Medical Center Auxilian in the Surgery Family Waiting area! I am the customer service volunteer who helps family members while they wait for a patient having surgery. It's my job to comfort them as well as provide necessary information so that their experience at the medical center is a good one, free of problems. I've learned that Customer Service is a critical area for the hospital, with many guidelines to follow. A typical morning for me begins at 7:45 am, registering family members as they arrive into the waiting area, answering two phones with calls from the operating room, recovery room, and pre-op area. Directing family members to their destination in the hospital. Helping the physicians locate family members, and keeping the coffee bar well stocked and clean. The hardest part of the job is maintaining control when the area becomes extremely hectic on busy surgical days, as I work alone. The most enjoyable part of the job is when a family member leaves and says to me, "thank you, you made this much easier for me or you are perfect for this job, thank you."

You will be degraded on a daily basis. They will fool you in the beginning just like a salesman but don’t fall for it. They will say one thing to your face and another behind your back. Surgeons will curse you out for things they did wrong then apologize at the end of the surgery and then immediately go talk about you to other staff. If you are being trained you will undoubtedly be put with a traveler who is not only making a ton of money but will sit in the back of the OR playing on their phone if they even stay in the room. They will flat out abandon you and the surgeon and no one will care. You will be thrown into surgeries you’ve never even heard of and be expected to set up for it then get yelled at for not having the right instruments because the cards were wrong, but it’s pretty well known that every card is wrong. They will flat out swindle you when it comes to pay for example let’s say you’re a tech and you want $30 an hour they will offer you $23 an hour base pay and then you get $5 per hour as an or bonus pay so now you’re only making $28 an hour but then it’s worse you don’t get that or pay in over time you get time and a half of $23 so $34.5….. the stress you will have in over time simply isn’t worth it. 

Probably the worst employer I ever had. My manager was rude and unfair. He would speak to me condescendingly, and played favorites. The director was slightly better, but only slightly. I was denied my request to switch to a Per Diem position, regardless to that there was an open position and I was actively watched them take on new-hire Per Diems. I was denied my request for a raise, and my pay was so pathetic. My manager would get angry when I occasionally had to call out sick. My one vacation request for one week was threatened to be denied by my manager, and when I offered to shorten it to not inconvenience him, he turned it around and said it would be okay, but still tried to make it seem as though he was doing me a favor by approving it. I was told I wasn't allowed to use my sick pay when I was sick and upon my leaving the company I never was compensated for my unused sick hours. 99% of the nursing staff is rude, mean, and unwilling to help. They would almost never have their patients charts prepared, and when you would call them they would make it seem like you are majorly inconveniencing them.

JMC is a great place to begin or advance your healthcare career. For both clinical and non-clinical employees there is great opportunity for growth & development. The leadership institute offers coursework to grow key soft skills. I am not clinical, but am amazed that in addition to the clinical ladder for nurses, JMC also offers clinical ladder for tons of other allied health positions. I work with multiple departments in my role and for the most part, find the majority of our leadership team to to supportive, engaging and open to new ideas.  Everyone can find something to complain about and it's always the employees that leave that are most disgruntled. But after 5 years with JMC (and having worked at other healthcare organizations) I applaud this organization for doing a standout job with 1) engagement 2) recognition 3) culture and 4) growth & development. We have access to great benefits and whatever your role is, you go home everyday feeling like the work you do really supports a great community organization!

Bedside nursing is a joke at this hospital. Obtaining a doctor who has the authority to prescribe medication for a patient is not easy.  Call their answering service? What is this, 1979?  They never call you back. You get a top-notch charting program, and they refuse to use that as a way to communicate. Brats, premaddonas at best. I have to say there were maybe 2 providers that I did not struggle to communicate with while employed there. OVERALL RUN!!!!!!  
the doctors are such cry babies and impossible to get ahold of, charge nurses that sit on their duffs ALL day and then say that the whole unit is their patient, please grow a pair and push your sleeves up and do some work besides being a chicken and laying report sheets on an already overloaded nurses cart while they are in a room providing care. JOKE! 

It's a very labor intensive job that required a lot of hours and weekends. Unfortunately, in my experience, there was very little control over what weekends I had. 

I was not a fan of management; they could have been better in my opinion. I felt there should have been more professionalism and care.

The hardest part of the job for me was the lack of structure. It just felt like anyone could walk in and tell you what to do when they aren't your boss, and unfortunately it felt like management bowed down to everyone's commands as well because they're fearful of backlash. 

If I were to say one good thing about my experience with the company, was that not everyone is bad and there was quite a few memorable people there.

This is all just my personal opinions and experience in this position.



What is the best part of working at the company?
I don't really think there's anything great about working at this hospital.  To me personally its like any other hospital.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Nothing ever works at this hospital. Their WOWs (Workstations on Wheels) are outdated and in poor condition. The wifi is terrible, and when walking too fast, the internet disconnects. For a hospital that prides itself on being private and has its "great benefits, " it's actually pretty sad how bad their technology is.  

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
It was just like any other hospital. Management isn't that great either, or higher leadership positions.

I thought working at JMC was okay: flexible schedule makes for a great work-life balance and decent pay. One of my biggest issues personally was over hearing management talk about other employees for the whole floor to hear. I literally sat there and heard a manager berate her employee daily about her mistakes for the whole floor to hear. Another manager from a different department, boasted about how happy she was an employee was quitting. That can be a little disheartening when you are new. It makes it very uncomfortable to want to ask a question or admit your struggling with anything. I think all of the managers need to eat a piece of humble pie. I know it can be challenging to have a full- workload and have to manage a group however EVERYONE started from somewhere.
