The biggest mistake you could make is accepting a job through Kaleida Health as a Care Manager or Community Health Worker for Oishei Healthy Kids. The failure of the business is noticeable as soon as you start training. Management is outright rude, secretive, manipulative, and they will choose favorites and treat all employees with different standards. Not one manager is on the same page as the other, the interim director is unapproachable, and over half of the administration team was derived from private connections through the jobs they had been previously fired from. 

When interviewing, you are told that you will be provided with parking, great benefits, a flexible work schedule, such as having the option of working from home, and guaranteed a small caseload. However, all that management is focused on is billing and micromanaging their employees, rather than focusing on the quality of care that they should be providing to their members. The numbers of enrollments are the most important factor to the management, even though they do not have enough Care Managers to provide services to those families.

If you are hired as a Care Manager, you will be given a full caseload of files that have not been touched for months and you will be responsible for making the appropriate contact in order to get your monthly billing quota completed. The office is now at the point of over-saturation and there is not enough room to place new employees at desks. Management no longer wants to see their employees in the office, rather they should be out in the field. When in the office, employees are drilled about what they are doing, even though documentation is one of the most important factors in ensuring "quality of care." 

Management has promised additional office space, a lunch/break room, and a union contract to improve benefits. All of those things have been promised since December, and now they don't have enough money to support those promises. Employees are only given a 30 minute unpaid lunch, yet there is nowhere in the building for employees to go and take their lunch. Additionally, the Community Health Workers are expected to wander the streets daily, pressuring people to enroll into our health home, and are put into unsafe situations multiple time throughout the week.

If you accept a job with Oishei Healthy Kids, expect to feel irritated every single day, disrespected by your superiors, and belittled. Expect to be pulled into managements office and drilled about other employees work ethic, drilled about your effective use of time, and to be micromanaged by keeping minute-by-minute updates of your work day through your outlook calendar. You will quickly realize that Kaleida does not support the health home and that several providers have poor relationships with the health home because of the failure to "lead with care." You will be the managements next victim, finding one flaw and reason to be the next employee they run out the door.

Expect to be taken to HR and face disciplinary action even if you are unaware that you are making a mistake. some of the coworkers we’re not team players. it was everyone for themselves basically. There were a good handful of RN’s and PCA’s on my unit that were very helpful and kind. I think this is one of the reasons, I stayed at Kaleida for as long as I did. The manager on the unit threw everyone under the bus to make herself look good. The providers were not easy to work with. A lot of them are stand offish and not easy to approach. When you have an issue with a patient/or change in patient condition, you have to call a rapid response or beg the providers to come look at the patient or do something about it. I'm very dissatisfied with the PTO policies and the attendance rule that only allows you to take ONLY 8 personal days off in a year or you face disciplinary action. Scheduling isn’t the best either and your time off requests are approved by seniority, so if you’re new and a more senior employee asks for a vacation, their time off is approved before yours is looked at or considered for approval👎🏿The pay for RN's does not match the back breaking work load and responsibility we hold. As RN's, we were expected to uphold many roles for patients and I don't think we are compensated fairly for all the hard work we do. Also, the unit I worked on had so much drama, it felt like I was back in high school. Management was not very supportive either. Upper Management decided to change the type of patients that would be admitted on the unit and this was the last straw for me. They were making it respiratory step-down with a hospice wing, and the RN's on the unit were still responsible for all of the peritoneal dialysis in the ENTIRE hospital with no EXTRA pay🥲This made the assignments very heavy and it was too much to deal with since there were staffing issues. Also, management made most RN’s feel like we should know everything. This is nursing, no one knows everything, we’re constantly learning. No nurse can possibly know everything. Another thing I didn't understand is that Kaleida payed the parking fees for travel RN's but the staff RN's and all Kaleida staff had to pay to park at work even though we are already underpaid. The positives of working at Kaleida was the 3 day work week and all of the learning opportunities, critical thinking skills and other hands-on nursing skills that you gain on the job. So yeah I would rate my experience as a RN at Kaleida a -100/10.

I am truly sad about this review because this company has the potential to go far if it was ran by the right people. So many workers in the Oishei Healthy Kids programs is so unhappy. The work load is terrible, the way staff gets treated is terrible. Most of the staff is currently applying to other agencies because it is so bad. Management staff only cares about the money aspect and not the quality of care of the clients.  The environment is uncomfortable and no one is motivated to provide good service because everyone is too busy applying out to other jobs. Sadly management staff is very unorganized  and can be delusional at times in regards to  what is truly going on with their staff. They are so concerned with  getting billing done for this month that they fail to realize the negative mental effect this stress of the job is having. I know about 11 Case managers that are actively looking for a new job to get out of this place. 

Management staff loves to double team staff members below them. They will tell you that they want to do an case review with you but in return it is actually an attack on your character as an person and how bad you suck at your job. 

Also, half of the management staff lack cultural sensitivity and the proper diplomas to be qualified for the position. I guess you can get anywhere in life when you know somebody and you dont have to put in the work. 

Please reconsider applying for this place. Working here is not worth the mental pain it will cause on you. Lastly, for my coworkers who are still working there, I pray for you everyday because I know you need it. Please get out of there fast.

You are consistently going to continue to do interviews because there will always be case managers and CHWs who quit. The problem is management! Its funny how everyone is leaving but MANAGEMENT. MANAGEMENT is the problem.

Working for an employer that prioritizes revenue over the well-being and growth of its employees can be an incredibly disheartening and demotivating experience. Unfortunately, my time with such a company was nothing short of disappointing, leaving me with a sense of disillusionment and dissatisfaction.

One of the most glaring issues with this revenue-driven employer was their apparent disregard for the welfare of their employees. Instead of fostering a positive work environment, the focus was solely on maximizing profits, often at the expense of employee morale and satisfaction and patient outcomes. It became increasingly evident that individuals were seen as mere cogs in the revenue machine, rather than valued contributors to the organization.

The lack of investment in employee development and growth was particularly noticeable. Training and professional development opportunities were scarce, if not entirely absent. This lack of investment left employees feeling stagnant and unsupported in their career aspirations. Rather than nurturing talent and empowering their workforce, the employer seemed content with a revolving door of employees, perpetuating a culture of high turnover and burnout.

In conclusion, my experience with this  employer was deeply unsatisfying.  For those seeking an employer that values and invests in its people, I would strongly advise looking elsewhere. It is crucial to find an organization that understands the significance of a people-focused approach and prioritizes the well-being and growth of its employees for sustained success.


I had a wonderful experience joining Kaleida. My position offered a lot of opportunity to become involved with new aspects and technologies. I liked my coworkers and people were willing to help and work with each other most of the time. However, there was talk about a lack of trust between employees and management. I experienced this in seeing a schism within my on team where there were two divided groups and management did nothing to resolve the obvious tensions. Also, I worked with my team lead directly. Having weekly Project Plan meetings and going over my task statuses and goals. From these meetings I was feeling that I was ahead of schedule on most projects and producing well. I never had individual meetings with my direct management nor was I ever alerted to any criticism of my work. At my annual review I was suddenly let go with the reason being the wanted to go in another direction. I was shocked as I had only received positive feedback and was unaware of any possibility of this happening. My team lead, who I had my weekly meetings with, was also unaware of this decision until an hour prior to me being told. This was the reasoning for the lack of trust I had heard between employees and management. Overall I feel that Kaleida can and will be a great place to work once the communication issues are resolved and management takes a more hands on approach with their teams. The problem isn't the people, it is the evolving culture going through growing pains as the IT department evolves it's focus towards industry standards and practices.

Worst company I ever worked for.  Everyone in the admin offices are nasty, negative, lazy, incompetent, and most of the employees are protected by the union (so they can get away with doing the bare minimum and then you will be subjected to doing their work for them even though it's not relevant to finance.) Management is absolutely horrendous in the finance dept. Extremely high turnover that's why you see them keep posting for positions in the finance department. The accounting manager lacks the ability to manage people, explain things well, presents themself as a slob, and is extremely unprofessional. Everyone you will have to encounter in other departments will walk all over you and treat you terribly and you are not allowed to stick up for yourself. Everyone is in edge because they fire people a lot. The secretary in the finance department is an absolutely rude, arrogant, judgmental, and an overall nasty woman. She will make your worklife extremely difficult to bear if she doesn't like your personal life choices. The workload is insane and extremely inefficient. Management won't change anything about it even though they encourage all new hires to suggest ideas about "streamlining" the process. You are expected to work a lot of overtime even though they swear to all new hires they are only expected 10 hours of overtime max per month. They will overwhelm you with the work of about 2-3 people. My advice is to avoid working there at all costs. The stress and amount of disrespect you will encounter is not worth the money or benefits. Avoid at all costs or learn the hard way.

I start my day with administrative duties with in my department, log information into a dispatch log and dispatch security officers to calls, investigations, reports, patrol campus grounds inside and out. address any safety concerns, attend department and hospital operations meetings when needed.

   Management in my department is micro managed, not such a good environment to work under, make themselves feel indispensable. will not allow others to learn and grow with in the department, even as a lower level supervisor.   

   Co-workers- could be a stronger working rapport with in the department among co workers, if management allowed.

   The worst part of my job is working under a management, that are all out for themselves, not looking out for the best interest the department as a whole, working under micro management.always feeling your job is in constant jeopardy. 

   Helping a patient find their belongings, helping a visitor find their vehicle when they cant remember where they parked, escorting an employee to and from their vehicle when having personal problems being able to give the comfort and security and gratifying moment to that patient, visitor and employee at that particular moment. 

   The public safety department in the hospital is the go to non medical department we  get a lot of calls, questions, and expectations of the department to resolve concerns and issues are high.

The people there are dedicated and hard working for the most part.  I learned a lot from a lot of different people there.  

Decisions being made behind closed doors, however, got worse over the years.  Training is non-existent for non-union personnel and nobody says a thing because you will be let go.  People are being fired every day and they just show up to your cube/office with a box to let you know.  

Executive management this past year invited all management to a meeting so they can brag that BGH hospital was for the first time ever, in the black!  Meanwhile, managers in that room are working in departments that are severely understaffed and these executives continue to make decisions that ultimately fire people daily.  

The IT department is run by an idiot who has no real clue, other than to mimic the setup that was used at his last hospital.  He continues to bring in foreigners and outsource other services.  Clearly, nobody at the top has a clue of the impact, or cares, about those at the bottom.  I didn't think the Catholics were right, but they are.  Kaleida only cares about the bottom line.  I would not recommend putting your time and effort into this company as every worker in the company is expendable and walks around all day having to worry whether you will be employed tomorrow.

A typical day in the life of an hospital employee working 12 hour shifts consists of patience, team work, collaberation, and dependency.

Working with a team of different specialties as in Nurses, doctors, dieticians, physical therapists, respiratory workers, assistants, environmental services, infection control, the whole care team is vital to ensure quality care is provided for each and every patient throughout the hospital.

Skills such as organization, time management, proper and efficient communication between workers, teamwork, good attitude, all are important characteristics to a successful day and work environment.

Establishing healthy relationships with team members, patients, and family can ensure that care is being delivered to each and every individual as a dynamic to offer the best results as a community of workers.

What is the best part of working at the company?
The Healthcare benefits, pay rate, and paid vacation time were great. It's also nice to encounter patients and be of assistance to them. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Management can be very unfair in their treatment of staff.  For instance my manager punished me by telling me I couldn't take off a day she had granted me. When I did take it off I was punished by not being able to call off for a year. I got the flu so I called in. When I returned I had a doctor's note. My manager fired me. Until this instance I mostly enjoyed my time at Kaleida 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
People work together and look out for each other.  

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
I park my car in the garage that I receive a discount in monthly payments. I then walk across a covered bridge to get to my office. That's followed my punching in using my fingerprint that is on file. Sometimes it would be my responsibility to greet patients, collect co-pays, and check them in letting the caretakers and assistants know the patient is there. Other times it would be my responsibility to make appointments. I also answered phones and assisted patients over the phone.
