The nurses and cnas are amazing. That’s essentially it.  RTs disappear for hours on end and do not respond to changes in patient’s respiratory status until called by a nurse. This is unfortunate when you may have multiple patients desating simultaneously. Cnas are understaffed, and underpayed. For a floor with 60 beds (half of the patients require maximum assist) you’ll see about 3 -4 cnas. Like an evil corporation cliche, they cut shifts of staff as soon as any opportunity to do so presents itself. Stretching everyone as thin as possible. 

This is essentially a step down critical care unit. The patient to nurse ratio is typically 5-1 here where other places would set a reasonable 3 patient max in this setting. Many patients are on telemetry and there are multiple code blues a week. Expect at least 1-2 patients to unexpectedly desat on you per shift. Expect at least 3 patients to require complex wound care a shift.

Honestly, completing all of the tasks (med pass and dressing changes) in a 12 hour shift is a far cry. What this means is that patients are severely neglected in other areas such as basic hygiene, repositioning, and vital checks more than once a shift. They are ultimately suffering the most and staff members feel helpless because it’s unreasonable to expect people to work 2 hours overtime every shift on top of those long shifts.  
One pro is that you get insanely good at time management. 
Fortunately many patients do recover. Unfortunately many patients do not. 
All of the patients deserve more attention. 

Favoritism plays a big part in patient assignments, which are not assigned based on acuities point score. If the CHS likes you your assignments are easy, if not you get higher acuity pt's.  CNA's are assigned 8-10  pts. requiring RN /LVN assistance for total body care. Managers  have little experience working the floor and the majority have no experience in Acute Hospitals. High turn over of nurses, who are mostly new grads with no background in acute care.   Corporate encourages this dogma, so they can pay low wages and focus on profit. Most new  nurses already have been offered other acute care jobs and were told after a 1 year experience at Kentfield they will be hires at those acute hospital which pay $20-$30 more p/h.
SEIU receives 2% of staff wages and still does not have any shop Stewarts on the floor. 

I often enjoyed my work here despite the challenges, however there are some serious issues. Workarounds and cutting corners seems to be a norm. Although I felt a good team vibe and most clinicians were very competent, the Vibra 
 Corporate over-structure curtails the effective functioning of the hospital and adds absolutely no tangible value that I could see. HR dept is scheduling nurses like it's the 1950s...no work like balance. Also, no access to Policy and Procedures from Vibra Corporate which puts all clinicians at enormous risk. Those P&P which were verbally endorsed to me are inadequate for the acuity of the patients being served. 

You need to find your common ground in this place. What is your purpose to gain from working here. I enjoyed my experience working here in hindsight of patients care. Communication is key in this process but troubling things started happening to me. Rejection amongst groups if I’d show my strengths I’d get push backs by my colleagues. I felt a lot of pressure from some nurses who didn’t understand my culture difference between us. The chemistry between human behavior and spiritual development has changed over time as I grew more aware in my consciousness and unconscious mind working here.2

•	Provided holistic care to critical patients.
•	Maintained and performed peripheral IV lines, ABGs and interpretations, ECG monitoring, wound dressing, tracheotomy dressing, NG insertion and feeding, insertion of catheters, suctioning of nasal, oral, and tracheotomy
•	Assisted health care team members in performing safe, effective and timely patient care
•	Developed and presented multiple methodology presentations; wrote lesson plans on customer care, intake and output, weights, enternal parental, and more
•	Taught critical tasks to the staff such as wound care dressing and wound vac

Kentfield was an oppressive environment for me.  My co-worker would sometimes take lunch nine hours after the shift started due to lack of help.  People would skip breaks and the HR was horrible, they only allow you 2 minutes tops before moving on with their jobs.  The place is not run well and the patients are left constantly pushing their buttons.  I highly recommend getting into a professional environment like UCSF, avoid this place.  The pay is extremely low, other hospitals pay more than twice for the same position.

My time at Kentfield Hospital was terrible due to stressful environment with no formal initial training, low wages, chaotic situations where 5 RN’s are breathing down your throat (while on a phone call no less), employees not taking breaks and sometimes skipping lunch until 8-9 hours into the shift.  

The HR team is abusive and they have no time to speak to you and basically your a number to them.  They are stressed out all day long.  

My recommendation is stay away from this horrible place.

My day always start with completing the hospital reports. And balancing the census I assit the Case Managers. With discharges and new admissions when I not helping. The Case Managers I direct a team of twenty eight. The hardest part of my job is when patients move on. My patients are like my family so when they go home or to another facility. I miss then and there families!! The most enjoyable part of my day is when I see the patients smile.

The management puts their hearts into the work, striving to provide best possible environment for patient safety and job security. The most challenging part of my work there is providing individualized care, in circumstances when patient-nurse ratios are high. The most enjoyable part of the job is having a challenge and living up to it.
