I worked at Kind Behavioral Health for several months as an RBT, and I came in with about four years of experience, hoping to work toward my BCBA hours. Unfortunately, my experience was not what I expected.

The hiring and onboarding process was very long, about three weeks before you are with a client, and for someone experienced it felt repetitive and unnecessary. I trained new hires who were experienced RBTs, and they found the onboarding process ridiculous, tedious, and a waste of time. It would make a big difference if they adjusted training based on prior experience.

There are a couple of positives. Cancellation pay is offered, which is rare and appreciated. But beyond that, there were a lot of concerns. The sick time policy is very limited (20 hours and it only resets once a year on your hire date!) for a job where you are constantly exposed to illness, and the attendance system is strict to the point where it does not allow much flexibility for real life situations. On top of that, the company forces you to use PTO even if you do not want or need to. You cannot choose to use unpaid time off instead, which removes flexibility and does not feel employee friendly.

I worked at the Greensboro locations, including the temporary clinic space, and that is where most of my concerns came from. When I started, the space was essentially not set up at all. There were no visuals on the walls, no clear structure, and even basic things like protocols, potty seat, and a first aid kit were missing.

I ended up taking on a lot of initiative to try to make the space functional. I created all of the visuals used in the clinic, built the daily schedule, and regularly ran activity times, group sessions, and other structured events to create consistency for the kids. While I was happy to help, it was frustrating that so much of the setup fell on RBTs instead of leadership.

There were also ongoing issues with the building itself, including the heat not working. What stood out the most, and honestly felt unacceptable, was that there was only one toilet available for around eight children who were actively potty training, plus staff. This created constant stress, hygiene concerns, and felt completely inappropriate for a clinical setting. Combined with the other facility issues, it did not feel like a safe or supportive environment for either clients or staff.

Management was very inconsistent. Some BCBAs were great and supportive, but others did not follow through with supervision or updating programs. Leadership often did not feel present or helpful, and communication around concerns, especially about the building, felt discouraged at times, which was frustrating. It took months and several scary incidents before we had a consistent BCBA onsite to open the space and handle client arrivals. RBTs are often alone in the building without a BCBA present or easy to access. 

The culture could also feel cliquey, with noticeable favoritism. Calling out is also a complicated process that requires notifying multiple people and completing several steps, which can be overwhelming when you are already dealing with being sick or an emergency.

Overall, while there are a few positives, the lack of organization, poor facility conditions, and inconsistent leadership made it difficult to stay. I would not recommend it if you are looking for a well run, supportive clinic.

I've been with CCABA for a few years, transitioning from a RBT to a BCBA. CCABA has a strong focus on high-quality client care. The company has also come a long way in providing support and care for their staff. BCBAs have a choice when it comes to being part-time, full-time, and their caseload size. There are also many opportunities for advancement depending on your goals and interests (e.g., student mentor, leading social skills groups, leading classroom readiness groups, research projects). 

A typical work day includes offsite meetings (e.g., feedback meetings with RBTs, mentor meetings, all staff meetings monthly, BCBA meetings bi-weekly, BCBA case concept meetings monthly) and providing 20% supervision/program modification for clients in person or remotely. I typically will supervise 2-3 clients per day and hours depend on whether the program is focused, high-focused, or comprehensive.

Some challenges that come with the position are managing your time and schedule. The expectations are high, and it can be challenging to schedule 20% supervision for clients, indirect work for clients, weekly meetings with families, and offsite meetings with staff. Since sessions are often a mix of in home and in clinic, it's also important to take into account drive time in between clients and the area you live in before accepting clients. 

The best thing about CCABA was some of the wonderful and supportive people I met along the way. This company provided me an introduction into the field of ABA, a field that I am interested in and passionate about. HOWEVER, my safety and well-being were NOT a priority. Upon receiving my first client, I was completely unaware that I was not provided with proper safety training. Because of this, I was scratched, hit, had my hair pulled, and ultimately, bitten and had no idea how to handle it. After removing myself from the case, I learned that they had been waiting for a more experienced behavior tech when they found me, COMPLETELY brand new to the field and role. Two weeks after being off the case (and a full TWO months after starting), I received the appropriate 6-hour long training on what to do in any physically unsafe situation with a client and how to protect yourself in any of the scenarios I experienced. On top of this, I was mislead several times from the listing posted and the benefits I received. Finally, HR had no sympathy or reaction to my experience. In the end, I’m grateful for this experience because I now know what to look for in another ABA company.

Trust me don't apply here.  They are the lowest paying company around for RBTS and BCBAS . The management sucks. They are trying to scam over their employees at all time. They got caught not paying anyone overtime once like ever. Once they got caught by an employee who pointed it out they finally sent out all the owed overtime and was like oops we didn't notice.  They do "KPI" every 6 months where you MIGHT get a 50 cent raise. They give you full time/overtime hours for years but still consider you part time so they don't have to give you benefits.  They don't pay their students any extra but expect them to do tons of free work. They constantly have you doing things outside of the work day. They don't care about their employees. Clients parents will have your phone number, there is barely any ethical boundaries or concerns for RBTS. They are just employees sent out to work for them. There are some amazing BCBAs/RBTS here but the company as a whole sucks. They give you flashy titles (with no raise) and bad talk other clinics so you feel like you can't leave. The BCBAs have drama with each other which makes the RBTS feel stuck in the middle and forced to take sides. Makes you hate the career and burn out quick.   Trust me there are amazing clinics and this is an amazing job, just don't do it here.

The company does a great job of providing supervision for future bcba's however the majority of people work on the road and are not given any compensation for this or reward. Most of the happenings or emails are about things that happen in the clinic which are relatable to about only a small amount of people. The pay is not comparable to being on the road and spending so much on gas. 

The company does provide one with lots of experience for gaining hours and supervision toward getting one's BCBA. However, there are lots of loops in how each BCBA wants documents to be handled or things to be prepared so it is a lot of work. Many late nights. If you have a client where you have to travel some people don't get home until 7 which doesn't leave much of an afternoon left or time to have a life outside of work. I recommend the job to someone who is dedicated to this field and can handle not being rewarded for such hard work. 

It is a very rewarding place to work if you love the field and your clients.  While the job had many flaws, the kids and the learning experiences are what made each day worth it.

Essentially, the company proceeded in "off-boarding" soon after completing the 40 hour-training due to an inability to work full-time due to being a FULL-TIME college student and not being able to match with clients, or possibly they didn't care enough to try to work with me on this. It was a huge shocker, and although they mentioned they were 'trying to do the right thing", both ways seemed unfair. I appreciate Kind for the training they allowed me to receive; it almost stole the joy and passion I had for this field when I was caught off guard. I chose to look at the positive, and hopefully, Kind did me a favor, propelling me to higher opportunities. If you have real bills and are relying on this job as your career, for how positive I assumed this company was, I was 100% blind-sighted by their immediate termination and them having no desire or not a "what can we do attitude." Overall, technically, I only worked here for about a month and a half, but considering how passionate and genuine I am about this field, it was the most heart shattering that they chose to fire me but it is okay; better opportunities await :).

While you are paid decent, you don't get the hours to really support yourself. Working here, a lot of the time your BCBA and clinical director leave you on read, offer no support, and consistently make you feel bad if you're getting burnt out and needing extra assistance. You leave work feeling drained and defeated. My clinic kept hiring more people when we don't have the clients to supplement the multiplying employees. The only thing that I truly loved about working here is my coworkers and the kiddos! My BCBA was rude, very unhelpful, and left me on read on a multitude of occasions. They pick favorite RBT's and if you're not one of them then you're SOL. I started here thinking I  had found a wonderful place to work, and instead was reminded that management will NEVER care about the well-being and care of their employees. I also hate the fact that there are no sick days and you have to use PTO for everything. As a part time employee, I do not make enough hours to acrue enough PTO for sickness, appointments, etc. Clients/Staff are also allowed  to come into the clinic with covid as long as they have no symptoms like fever or throwing up.

When I got the job, they had me under the impression that I would be working at least 20 hours a week, every week. Immediately after I finished training, they were going to have me shadowing for only 2 hours a day, which would be 10 hours of pay for the week. Exactly half of what I was expecting! I had to contact human resources to get 15 hours instead. When I got my first client, my hours were cut again to 12 hours a week. All of that while getting underpaid. Many other employees work second jobs just to get by, it is very normal to have two jobs. Human resources was extremely passive-aggressive. When I finally passed my RBT exam, which was at the beginning of one month, they told me that my ONE DOLLAR pay raise would not go into effect until the very NEXT MONTH! I was putting in much more effort than other RBTs who were in more senior roles, and was not promised any sort of job security when a client of mine was discharging. I learned that I have to value myself more than anything and that I should always fight for myself against upper management trying to make me settle for less.

Working as an RBT at the Greenville Clinic had its ups and downs. The best part by far was working with the kids and their families — that’s what made the job meaningful for me. Building those relationships and seeing the kids make progress was incredibly rewarding and the main reason I stayed as long as I did.

That said, there were a lot of challenges. There wasn’t much ongoing training or support for RBTs, which made it hard to grow or feel confident handling more complex situations. Clinical support was also really lacking — supervisors and higher-ups were rarely available due to being busy and there wasn’t enough of them in the building which made it feel like there wasn’t much accountability for how things were run day to day.

Policies weren’t really enforced, and the overall morale in the clinic was very low. A lot of staff seemed unhappy or burned out, and that definitely affected the work environment and the quality of care clients were receiving.

I genuinely loved working with the clients, but the lack of support and structure made it a tough place to work.
